NKT Bags East West Interconnector Contract

The Irish power grid operator EirGrid has awarded NKT a service contract for the interconnector connecting Ireland and Great Britain.The cable and cable accessories supplier to the energy sector has been awarded a five-year service agreement by the Irish power grid operator EirGrid for cable related services including repair works for the East West Interconnector.The 200 kV HVDC power cable with capacity of 500 MW between Ireland and Great Britain is connecting the countries power grid ensuring the high transmission security needed to power modern life.For NKT, the agreement marks the first contract including the company’s recently launched 10 days vessel mobilization guarantee.

NKT Services TenneT Offshore Cable Joints

German-Dutch power grid operator TenneT has awarded the cable company NKT with a three-year service agreement contract covering the cable jointing part of a larger offshore service agreement.The contract covers the cable jointing work for seven power cable systems and includes a tailored preparedness plan designed by NKT to ensure minimum downtime in case of damages to the high-voltage power cables, which originally was manufactured by NKT.For NKT, the agreement supports the company’s strategic focus to grow its service business as the industry attention for power cable service is expected to increase in the years ahead.The global transition…

AMCF Calls for Greater Cooperation

Shipowners, shipbuilders and representatives from the Green Award Foundation  attended the first in a series of planned ‘roadshows’ Subsea Industries has initiated to demonstrate the zero environmental impact and simplicity of cleaning hulls protected with its Ecospeed hard coating. Harold Eugene Doc Edgerton

Harold Eugene ‘Doc’ Edgerton was born in Fremont, Nebraska, on April 6, 1903. He was one of three children born to Frank and Mary Edgerton, and from an early age Edgerton like to see what made things tick, spending hours taking things apart and putting them back together. He first became interested in photography through his uncle who was a studio photographer, and his uncle would spend time with the young Edgerton showing him the ins and outs of photography including developing and printing the pictures they took.

Ecospeed Protects Icebreaker on Expeditions to Antarctica

The British Antarctic Survey selected Ecospeed to provide a coating to protect their ice strengthened research vessel Ernest Shackleton during expeditions to the Antarctic region in which it is subjected to extreme mechanical forces. The vessel was coated in Frederikshaven, Denmark, where the grit blasting and application of the two layers were done under the eye of an Ecospeed inspector. The timing was geared to the schedule of the yard. The Ecospeed coating has no maximum overcoating time. Ernest Shackleton is a 1A1 ICE-05 class icebreaker which is used for expeditions to the South Pole.

ROV Friendly Salvage Tooling

Seanic Ocean Systems (formerly Mako Deepwater Inc.) announced that they recently delivered specially designed tools in support of deepwater ROV salvage operations. The tooling package included a subsea Mag Drill and two subsea Super Grinders.
