Canada's New Oil Spill Response Barges Launched

Two new oil spill response barges were recently completed at ASL Shipyard in Singapore for Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC).The two 3,500 tonne barges, Sentinel 303 and Sentinel 304, will be delivered to WCMRC in October, with arrival in Canada by the end of 2022. The response barges will join WCMRC’s fleet of pollution response vessels stationed along the south coast of British Columbia.These new barges represent a significant enhancement to the pollution response capabilities already in place and will benefit the entire local maritime industry…

Desmi Opens New Office in Japan

Desmi opened its own office in Tokyo, Japan. The new office, which is a legal entity of DESMI Ocean Guard A/S, will be headed by Noribumi Suganuma as of August 1, 2021. Noribumi Suganuma has 18 years’ experience in the shipping and marine industries in Japan, as well as several years’ experience from the automotive industry. The main focus of the new endeavor will be the sale of DESMI’s Marine & Offshore products with special attention to ballast water management systems. “Japan represents a significant potential market for DESMI. Measured by GDP Japan is the third largest economy in the world, and seen from a shipowner perspective, it is the second largest in the world.

Royal Thai Navy signs on for a new RAmparts 3200-SD Tug

A contract for a new RAmparts 3200-SD tug was recently signed by Robert Allan Ltd. and Asian Marine Services Public Company Limited (ASIMAR) of Thailand for the design for the Royal Thai Navy. DESMI Extends BWMS Range with Two New Units

DESMI developed two new ballast water management systems (BWMS) covering bulker solutions and ships sailing in IMO waters only or primarily: CompactClean Bulker and CompactClean OptIMO. “Not all ships are engaged in global trade but rather in regional or domestic trade, and as such a significant part of the world fleet will never, or only rarely, enter U.S. waters. Stolt Tankers B.V. and DESMI Ocean Guard A/S has announced that Stolt Tankers has selected the CompactClean Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) for installation on Stolt Tankers’ existing fleet.The agreement is to provide more than 60  chemical tankers with the CompactClean BMWS by the end of 2023. DESMI Bags Frame Agreement for Sea Tankers Fleet

The DESMI Ocean Guard CompactClean Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) has received US Coast Guard Type Approval. This approval comes just a few months after the CompactClean BWMS received IMO type approval and means that the system is now approved for worldwide operation.On April 16, 2019 DESMI Ocean Guard’s CompactClean Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) received US Coast Guard (USCG) Type Approval. DEMSI's BWMS for DFDS Fleet

DESMI Ocean Guard A/S said that DFDS has selected the CompactClean Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) for installation on its existing fleet of vessels.DFDS and DESMI Ocean Guard have signed a frame agreement for supply of CompactClean Ballast Water Management Systems to the existing fleet of vessels of DFDS. The agreement covers more than 40 ferries to be retrofitted in the period from early 2020 until end 2024. Most of the vessels will be retrofitted with either a CompactClean-340 or a CompactClean-500 system, with max flow capacities of 340 m3/h and 500 m3/h respectively.

DESMI Ocean Guard A/S has announced that all the required land-based testing of the CompactClean Ballast Water Management System has been successfully completed. The testing was performed in accordance with both International Maritime Organization (IMO) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) requirements and paves the way for the issue of both IMO and USCG type approval certificates later this year. MISHA to Install DESMI BWMS Fleet-wide

Danish firm DESMI Ocean Guard A/S said it has finalized a contract to supply CompactClean ballast water management systems (BWMS) to the entire fleet of Turkish ship owner MISHA Shipping. IMC’s latest fisheries research and survey vessel design was built in Malaysia for the Bangladesh Department of Fisheries. RV Meen Shandhani arrived in Bangladesh in June after completing extensive sea and fishing trials and its delivery voyage. The Australian consultancy’s naval architects and engineers drew on a wealth of relevant experience, data and expertise when developing the research vessel’s design. Formed in 1994, IMC and its principals have a long interest in, and association with, the fisheries sector.

USCG Denies DESMI’s BWTS Test Appeal

The U.S. Coast Guard has denied ballast water treatment systems manufacturer DESMI Ocean Guard’s appeal regarding the USCG’s initial decision to reject the use of the MPN test method in type approval testing of ballast water treatment systems. On June 9, 2016 DEKRA EXAM GmbH issued ATEX certificate for DESMI’s RayClean-EX ballast water treatment system. The certificate covers both the RayClean UV unit and the UV control panel powering the UV unit, and enables both these components to be installed in hazardous areas onboard tanker vessels like e.g. oil tankers, chemical tankers and gas carriers. The filter, valves and sensors in the RayClean system can also be delivered in ATEX certified version meaning that all components of the RayClean system except the main control panel can be installed directly in hazardous areas.

Maersk Orders BWTS for 7 Newbuilds

DESMI Ocean Guard A/S to supply ballast water treatment systems to a series of new container vessels to be built at COSCO Zhoushan shipyard in China, for Danish shipper Maersk Line. DESMI Ocean Guard announced that its RayClean ballast water treatment system (BWTS) has been selected for installation on Maersk Line’s series of new containerships to be built at COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard Co., Ltd. The order is for seven vessels each equipped with two RayClean 500 BWTS, with options for two additional vessels. The systems will be delivered in 2016 and 2017.
