Van Oord Contracted to Build FSRU Jetty in Germany

Van Oord has been contracted by FSRU Wilhelmshaven, a joint venture between ENGIE and Tree Energy Solution (TES) to construct a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) jetty at Wilhelmshaven in Germany.Responsibility for the operation of the second FSRU-Project in Wilhelmshaven lies with the state-owned Deutsche Energy Terminal GmbH (DET), which is implementing ā€“ together with its partners TES and Engie ā€“ one of the priority projects backed by Germanyā€™s LNG Acceleration law, passed in May 2022.

ClassNK Amends Rules for Seawater-lubricated Shafts

Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) has joined the major classification societies to amend its rules relating to the inspection of seawater-lubricated propeller shaft systems.The amendment means that ships with open seawater-lubricated propeller shafts that are built to ClassNK rules are subject to the same 15-year shaft withdrawal inspection periods as oil-lubricated shafts and sterntubes, subject to monitoring criteria.The announcement brings ClassNKā€™s requirements in line with those of other large class societiesā€¦

Suhail Al Mazrouei, United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO of DNV Maritime, representing the Foundation Det Norske Veritas, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on establishing a new UAE Decarbonization Center. The MOU was signed at a ceremony at the International Maritime Organization's headquarters in London, H.E "The Marine Environment Protection Committeeā€™s (MEPC) 80th session this month showed that shipping is now on an accelerating path towards full decarbonization.

The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) have announced the signing of a five-year Strategic Partnership agreement.The partnership boosts the center's efforts to conduct pilots and trials of low-carbon solutions for the global shipping industry.Japan is one of the top three shipowning countries in the world, and Japanese merchant vessels account for around 11% of world tonnage. Record $1.6 Billion Meth Seizure Made at Port Botany

Australian authorities are reporting a record seizure of methylamphetamine after another metric ton of the illicit drug was discovered at Sydney's Port Botany.The development comes after detectives attached to the State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad earlier this year commenced Strike Force Chellington to investigate the importation of illicit drugs into New South Wales.Acting on intelligence, Australian Border Force (ABF) officers examined a number of sea cargo containers, which had arrived into Port Botany last month.

Tug and Barge Transporting Munitions Run Aground on Florida Beach

A tug and barge ran aground Thursday night near Deerfield Beach, Fla., while transporting munitions from Port Canaveral to a U.S. Naval facility in the Bahamas.The U.S.-flagged tug Sea Eagle had four people on board when it began taking on water and went aground at 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said. No injuries or pollution have been reported, and both the tug and barge are said to be in stable condition.Three of the crew members were rescued from the attached barge by Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (CBP AMO) rescue crews.

Singapore-based offshore vessel operator Miclyn Express Offshore (MEO) has appointed Darren Ang as CEO. Ang, who took over as CEO from Diederik DeBoer, has been with the company for 22 years.Prior to becoming CEO, Ang served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer. Before this, he served as Chief Marketing Officer of the company from November 2016 to March 2019, and Chief Operating Officer from September 2007. In addition, Ang was employed as an Assistant Engineer at A.P. Moller, a Petroleum Surveyor at Det Norske Veritas, and a Marine Consultant at Bureau Veritas.

Singapore Launches $90 Million Shipping Decarbonization Fund

The Foundation Det Norske Veritas (DNV) assumes full ownership of DNV GL and remains committed to Maritime headquarters in Hamburg. Stiftelsen Det Norske Veritas (The Foundation) and Mayfair announce the sale of Mayfairā€™s 36.5% shares in DNV GL Group AS to DNV Holding AS. The agreement regarding the leading quality assurance and risk management company DNV GL was signed on 8 December 2017. In 2012, Stiftelsen Det Norske Veritas and Mayfair agreed to build a global quality assurance and risk management leader well positioned to succeed in a rapidly transforming market: Germanischer Lloyd was merged with Det Norske Veritas to create DNV GL.
