New Unit Will Support Coast Guard Research and Development Center

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will stand up its first unit dedicated to supporting the Coast Guard Research and Development Center (RDC) in New London, Conn. today.The new Auxiliary unit will support the RDC mission by coordinating requests for assets and skills in three focus areas: subject matter expertise, field research activities and public affairs. The new Auxiliary unit coordinator, Bruce Buckley, will develop a skills bank that matches Coast Guard research priorities to Auxiliary skill sets across the nation.

Oil Spill Response: SCOPE 2017

Later this year a major oil and chemical protection exercise dubbed SCOPE 2017 will be carried out in Norway. A joint project including major European and Scandinavian stakeholders, the simulated response to a combined oil and chemical spill aims to foster clearer communication and coordination of spill response across agencies and physical country boundaries. Battleship Missouri Reopens

Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard commander Capt. Gregory R. Thomas joined the Battleship Missouri Memorial in saluting its volunteers and supporters as the historic ship fully reopened to visitation following a multimillion-dollar drydocking project. A ukulele band from the Big Island of Hawaii's Waiakea Intermediate School performed at a ceremony in honor of the memorial's volunteers and supporters. The Layered Approach from a One-Stop-Shop

The rush to shore up security along all links of the transportation chain — and the multi-billion dollar budgets that go with them — have naturally brought companies out of the woodwork in what some see as a dash for cash. AMDETECH Acquires Makor K-9's Cruise Line Business

American Detection Technologies, Inc. (AMDETECH) recently announced the acquisition of Makor K-9 LLC's cruise line business. Under the terms of the transaction, AMDETECH immediately takes over Makor K-9's current working canine contracts with Princess Cruise Lines, Crystal Cruises, and Metro Cruise Services, as well as all other current and future contracts. Additionally, Makor K-9 President and Founder Mark Rispoli, who is based in Napa, California, is joining AMDETECH as its new VP, Cruise Services, and will have a seat on the AMDETECH Board of Directors. This is the second acquisition for AMDETECH in the past seven months, having acquired Southern Hills Kennels in New Smyrna Beach, FL. last September.
