World's Longest Wind Turbine Blade Reached UK

The world’s longest offshore wind turbine blade has arrived in Northumberland, UK to be tested at the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult site.The 107-metre blade will be used on the most powerful wind turbine in commercial development – the 12MW Haliade-X from GE Renewable Energy.The blade will undergo a full range of advanced testing procedures, demonstrating its ability to withstand peak wind conditions and simulating its readiness for years of operation at sea. Three other 107 metre blades will soon be shipped to a prototype site in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.Shipping and testing the first components of the Haliade-X 12 MW keeps GE Renewable Energy on track to commercialise the technology in 2021.

Kongsberg Launches Kognifai

Kongsberg has announced the launch of Kognifai, its open and collaborative digital platform that places a portfolio of applications into the cloud. Kognifai focuses on optimizing data access and analysis for customers across maritime and energy industries, and also provides an integrated development and distribution platform for efficiency enhancing applications. “With Kognifai we are launching an open ecosystem for customers, partners, and suppliers,” said Hege Skryseth, Executive Vice President, Kongsberg and President, Kongsberg Digital.

ABS Breaks Ground on Offshore Energy Center

ABS, a provider of classification services to the global offshore industry, is establishing an office in Houston's Energy Corridor near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Highway 6. The new facility will co-locate members from ABS engineering, project management, technology and business management, allowing ABS to better serve its client base in this significant energy research and development hub. "ABS recognizes that our customer base in the offshore industry demands on-site support with best-in-class services," says ABS Chairman Christopher J. Wiernicki.

Proserv CEO Named Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year

The chief executive of energy services company Proserv has been named Ernst & Young Scotland Entrepreneur of the Year 2013. Judges praised David Lamont for molding “a phenomenal business of a truly global nature” in overseeing a 25% year-on-year growth during his two years at the company which operates from 30 sites across the globe. A panel of experts picked Mr. Lamont ahead of 28 other business leaders and he will now go forward to represent Scotland at the UK Entrepreneur of the Year final in October.

Statoil Agreement to Divest Norwegian Shelf Assets Closed

Statoil’s agreement to divest Norwegian Continental Shelf Assets to Centrica is closed. The transaction following Statoil’s divestment and exit from several licenses on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) in November last year is now closed. The buyer was the UK based energy company and established NCS player Centrica and the consideration was USD 1.525 billion. An additional payment of up to US$100 million (£63 million) is contingent on future production performance of the Kvitebjørn assets. Kvitebjørn / Valemon Area is a significant gas production/development hub in Norway. Statoil remains the operator of both fields.Heimdal Area: Statoil retains operatorship in Heimdal, but exit from Vale, Frigg Gamma Delta and Fulla.
