Group Set Up to Study Onboard Carbon Capture Technologies for Shipping Industry

Ship classification organization ABS said Tuesday it had joined an elite working group comprised of global maritime leaders to study onboard carbon capture technologies.The collaborative project brings together ABS, Diana Shipping Services S.A., Equinor ASA, GasLog LNG Services Ltd., Maran Gas Maritime Inc., Minerva Gas Inc., Neptune Lines Shipping and Managing Enterprises S.A., Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA), Prime Tanker Management Inc., Solvang ASA, Springfield Shipping Co.

Diana Shipping Fined $1.1 Million

Diana Shipping Inc. today announced that its subsidiary, Diana Shipping Services S.A. (DSS), was sentenced by the United States District Court in Norfolk, Virginia to a fine of $1,100,000 and a period of probation of three years and six months as a result of a conviction earlier this year by which DSS was held vicariously liable for the illegal acts of the M/V Thetis's Chief Engineer and second Engineer who were found guilty by the Court of violating several U.S. statutes and regulations in failing to properly handle bilge wastes, maintain required records and for obstruction of justice. Shipping Corporation and Two Engineers Convicted in ‘Magic Pipe’ Case

Diana Shipping Services S.A., a Panamanian corporation headquartered in Greece, Ioannis Prokakis and Antonios Boumpoutelos, both citizens of Greece, were convicted after an 12-day bench trial on charges related to the illegal discharge of waste oil and oil-contaminated waste water from the M/V Thetis, a cargo vessel operated by Diana Shipping Services, announced Robert G. Dreher, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, Neil H. MacBride, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Otis E. Diana Takes Delivery of Panamax Containership

Diana Containerships Inc. Announces the Delivery of a Panamax Container Vessel, the APL Sardonyx, and the Drawdown of an Additional US$8.4 Million From the Revolving Credit Facility With RBS. Diana Containerships Inc., a global shipping company specializing in owning and operating containerships, announced that the Company took delivery of the Panamax container vessel, m/v "APL Sardonyx", a 1995-built vessel of approximately 4,750 TEU capacity, on Friday, February 17, 2012. As previously announced, the APL Sardonyx is chartered to APL (Bermuda) Ltd., or to a guaranteed nominee or to another entity of the NOL Group with similar or better net worth than APL (Bermuda) Ltd. for a period of minimum twenty-four (24) months plus or minus forty-five (45) days at a daily rate of US$24,750.

Diana Acquires Two Containerships

Diana Containerships Inc. (Nasdaq:DCIX), signed two Memoranda of Agreement with APL (Bermuda) Ltd. for the purchase of two Panamax container vessels, the m/v "APL Sardonyx" and the m/v "APL Spinel". The m/v "APL Sardonyx" is a 1995-built vessel of approximately 4,750 TEU capacity and the m/v "APL Spinel" is a 1996-built vessel of approximately 4,750 TEU capacity. The purchase price for each vessel is $30 million. The expected dates of delivery from their previous owners to the Company for both vessels are within the first quarter of 2012. Each of the two vessels is chartered to APL (Bermuda) Ltd., or to a guaranteed nominee or to another entity of the NOL Group with similar or better net worth than APL (Bermuda) Ltd.
