Pipavav Shipyard in Talks to Set Up Diesel Engines Factory

India’s newest private shipbuilding firm,Pipavav Shipyard Ltd, is the latest in a growing list of firms looking to enter the business of making diesel ship engines in an attempt to meet growing demand for these in India and in other parts of the world, and is talking to two multinational firms for a partnership. Last week, Pipavav Shipyard started work on the first four of 26 Panamax bulk carriers that have been ordered by Norwegian, French and Greek fleetowners for a total of $1.1 billion (Rs4,360 crore). The contract makes Pipavav the world’s second biggest Panamax size shipbuilder by order size after Japan’s dry bulk cargo shipbuilding specialist Oshima Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.

Great Ship: Great Ships of 2003

Ship Owner Mediterranean Shipping Co. S.A. MSC Linzie is the first vessel of a new vessel type developed and designed by Hanjin which adopts the new Panamax length design of 294.05 m. Apparently the design series and Hanjin's well-established reputation in this niche has proved attractive, as the company has, to date, logged orders for 24 ships of the new design. As mentioned above, its length is the maximum for Panama canal, i.e. 294 m. So it has been designed to move flexibly both in Pacific Ocean and in Atlantic Ocean through Panama canal, which is one of the main feature that makes it popular among the operator. This ship offers the maximum intake of 5,060TEU.

IZAR Christens Fourth LNG Carrier

IZAR’s Puerto Real Shipyard recently christened the LNG carrier Cadiz Knutsen, with representatives of the owners Knutsen OAS and Marpetrol and the final client, Unión Fenosa Gas. This ship will transport up to 138,000 cu. m. of gas at –163ºC, and is the fourth LNG carrier built at IZAR, and the second one of those built at Puerto Real facilities. There is a third unit under construction at this shipyard for the shipowner Fernandez Tapias. The vessel will transport gas from the Damieetta port liquefaction plant in Egypt to the gasification terminals in Ferrol and Sagunto. It will take 15 days and 10 days respectively for the ship to cover the routes at design speed, 19.5 knots.

IZAR Manises Tests, Delivers Mitsubishi Engine

Manises Propulsion and Energy, IZAR’s two stroke diesel engines factory has tested and delivered a Mitsubishi engine of 8,670 kW at 127 rpm, that will be assembled in the 25,000 tons chemical ship, that is being built in the Turkish shipyard Celik Tekne for the Italian shipowner Mediterranea di Navigazione. This comissioning is an important milestone for Izar-Manises Propusion and Energy, because it is the only licensee of Mitsubishi in Europe and because this engine is the first Mitsubishi engine delivered in Europe.

IZAR Delivers LNG Inigo Tapias

IZAR Sestao Shipyard has delivered the LNG, Inigo Tapias, which will be operated by the company F. Tapias for Repsol YPF-Gas Natural. After conclusion of tests, carried out by the shipyard in the Gas Natural facilities in Huelva and valued by the shipowner, the ship was delivered completely operative and was delivered a month ahead of schedule. During the tests, the cargo has reach quantity of 5,000 m3 of gas. The Inigo Tapias has the capacity to transport 138,000 m3 of liquified natural gas at 163 degrees centigrades below 0, in 4 tanks with a double membrane type No96 as a system of isolation and contention of cargo. The “Inigo Tapias” is the first LNG of this dimension built in Spain and the first of a serie of 5 that IZAR has under construction for Repsol YPF…
