U.S.-bound Tanker Loaded with Russian Cargo Docks Off Gibraltar Awaiting Instructions

Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Elli which made a Russian port call and is bound for the United States has anchored off Gibraltar awaiting further instructions from its charterer, the vessel's manager said.Last Tuesday, U.S. President Joe Biden imposed an immediate ban on Russian oil and other energy imports following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.Greece-based Halkidon Shipping Corporation, which manages the Elli, said on Friday the vessel "was instructed by her charterers to remain and await orders off Gibraltar, while en-route from Novorossiisk, Russia to the U.S. Gulf Coast"."The vessel is in laden condition," Halkidon said in a statement."Halkidon…

Tanker Scrapping to Remain Low

There has been a near absence of the demolition activity in tanker market this year, Gibson Shipbrokers said in its latest tanker market report. The scrapping likely to remain at low levels in the coming months, it added.During the first ten months of 2019, only 30 tankers over 25,000 dwt were reported sold for scrap. About half of all demolition activity has been in the Handy/MR size group, with 17 units removed since the beginning of the year.There were 3 Panamaxes/LR1s demolished and just 1 tanker in the LR2/Aframax size group. The count is marginally higher for larger crude carriers, with 5 Suezmaxes and 4 VLCCs sold for removals.Gibson said that this  is in stark contrast to developments last year, when over 150 units were scrapped.

Capital Product Partners Sings Pact for $460 Mln Refinancing

Capital Product Partners  entered into a firm offer letter for a senior secured term loan facility of up to $460.0 million with HSH Nordbank AG and ING Bank as mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners and BNP Paribas and National Bank of Greece S.A. as arrangers. The lenders also include Alpha Bank S.A., Piraeus Bank S.A. and Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB (Publ). The closing of the credit facility is subject to finalization of the long form loan documentation. "We intend to use the net proceeds of the loans under the New Facility, together with available cash of approximately $120.6 million, to refinance, four out of five of our existing credit facilities amounting to $580.6 million in total," says a statement from the company.

Atlantis Tankers Orders 10 Optimarin BWTS

Optimarin has consolidated its position within the EX approved ballast water treatment (BWT) segment with a 10 vessel contract from Atlantis Tankers Group and its management arm Armona Denizcilik, the company announced. The Norwegian BWT specialist will now provide its solution to two newbuildings and the eight existing vessels in the Turkish controlled fleet. Optimarin is the first UV system supplier to pass the USCG’s marine water tests, with full USCG approval expected this spring.

New Tank Coating from Hempel

Marine paints manufacturer Hempel announced the launch of a new pure epoxy tank coating, Hempadur 15460, to replace its Hempadur 15400 tank coating. Hempadur 15460 is designed specifically as a tank coating for chemical vessels and is based on amine adduct cured epoxy technology, which the manufacturer says delivers resistance to continuous immersion in a range of chemicals, including crude oil up to temperatures of 80ºC/176ºF. The coating uses no toxic products and can be used to coat all liquid cargo tanks. It is also suitable for grey and black water tanks, mud and brine tanks, refrigerated seawater fish tanks and other vessel tanks.

New Tanker Stena Imperial Named in Savannah

A new 50,000 DWT MR chemical and product tanker based on the IMOIIMAX concept, Stena Imperial, was named yesterday in Savannah, Ga. Built by Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) and delivered on July 1, Stena Imperial recently arrived in Savannah on the U.S. East Coast with a cargo of palm oil. The new ship is owned by a joint venture of which Stena Bulk and Indonesian Golden Agri Resources (GAR) each own 50 percent. She is the third of 10 vessels ordered by Stena Bulk for a total of $400 million with delivery to be completed by 2017.

IMOIIMAX Stena Impression named in Singapore

The first of Stena Bulk's $400M, ten-vessel order was named in Singapore yesterday. The Stena Impression is a IMOIIMAX 50,000 DWT MR chemical tanker owned by Stena Bulk and Indonesian's Golden Agri Resources (GAR). The ten ordered vessels will be operated by Stena Weco and will trade within the company’s logistical systems, which will include a fleet of more than 60 tankers. The IMOIIMAX tankers have been designed to transport both vegetable oils and chemicals, as well as clean and dirty petroleum products.

LeBeouf Bros. Towing, LLC is one of the oldest marine towing companies operating the U.S. inland waterway system. Formed in the early 1940s by brothers Willard and Irvin LeBeouf, and joined in 1946 by Earl Gonsoulin, the company was purchased by the Gonsoulin family in 1968. Today LeBeouf Bros. is privately held and operated by Richard “Dickie” Gonsoulin and his son, Jon Gonsoulin, and continues to operate a growing fleet of inland boats and tank barges serving the petroleum and chemical industries on all major U.S. inland waterways.

EDCIS Order: Transas to Supply Twenty-Eight Ships

Transas Marine Denmark contracted by A/S to supply & install 28 Navi-Sailor 4000 Multifunction Display Dual ECDIS units. Transas is also to upgrade another six Eitzen Chemical vessels to the latest hardware and software ECDIS standards over the next two years. The package for each vessel includes 2 x 26" Hatteland monitors, RS6B computers, radar overlay and Firewall enabling a direct connection between the vessel's satellite communication equipment and the Transas ECDIS. After the installations, all vessels will run the unique "Pay As You Sail" chart concept from Transas.
