De Nora Wins Contract for BWTS Retrofits

De Nora, a supplier of equipment for seawater electrochlorination, said it has been awarded a contract to provide its BALPURE ballast water management system by one of North America’s major oil tanker operators. The BALPURE Twin BP3000-C systems, capable of treating ballast water flow rates up to 6,000m3/h,  will be retrofitted in five crude oil tankers ranging in size from 125,000 DWT to 141,740 DWT. The installations will take place from mid-2016 to 2018. BALPURE utilizes electrolytic disinfection technology to provide ballast water management. In addition to being IMO Type-Approved and USCG AMS-Certified, the system has been Bureau Veritas Type-Approved and ABS Design Assessed.

U.S. Coast Guard Accepts Nine BWTS as AMS

Followers of the Ballast Water Treatement System (BWTS) situation (ie. presumably anyone reading this publication) were heartened last month when the U.S Coast Guard announced its acceptance of nine BWTS as Alternate Management Systems (AMS), helping to finally bring some clarity to ship owners, yards and suppliers. On April 15, 2013, the USCG announced the acceptance of the ballast water treatment systems as AMS in compliance with the service’s March 2012 final rule for Standards for Living Organisms in Ships’ Ballast Water Discharged (SLOSBWD) in U.S. waters.

Balpure BWTS Receives USCG Certification

The IMO Type-Approved Balpure ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has become one of the first ballast water treatment technologies to receive the United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) Alternate Management System (AMS) certification. BALPURE BWT System is BV Type Approved

The Type-Approved BALPURE ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has received type approval from classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) for its full range of standard ballast water treatment systems that can treat ballast water flow rates of up to 5,000 m3/h. Standard systems can be supplied as multiple sets to treat higher flow rates. The type approval was granted by BV following stringent review of the BALPURE system per BV rules and guidelines along with the guidelines contained in the IMO Resolution MEPC.174(58).

ALPURE Ballast Water Treatment System Successfully Completes Corrosion Testing Program

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. – 9 March 2011 – The BALPURE ballast water treatment systemfrom Severn Trent De Nora satisfies corrosion test recommendations of the IMO MEPC 59/2/16. The corrosion testing, performed by an independent third-party institute, proved the BALPURE system has no effect on coated steel, naval bronze and Cu-Ni alloys. Testing proved an insignificant effect on bare steel – so small that the acceleration of corrosion due to the presence of free chlorine has minimal practical implications in ballast tanks.

Severn Trent to Use Electrocoagulation Reactor

Severn Trent De Nora has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with The Vinson Gavrel Group to use the company’s patented Ecolotron electrocoagulation (EC) reactor in the Omnipure Series 55 marine sanitation system design. The Omnipure Series 55 systems produce a sodium hypochlorite disinfection solution from seawater in the presence of sewage to effectively treat all sewage. STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Uses Omnipure

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding of Korea, one of the world’s largest shipbuilders, has purchased the first OMNIPURE Series 55 marine sanitation system from Severn Trend De Nora for use on a new drill ship. The OMNIPURE Series 55 system complies with MEPC.159(55) effluent standards and performance tests for sewage treatment plants across a variety of offshore and marine installations. The model 5556 system has a treatment capacity of 56 m3/day (14,793 gal/day). Its personnel treatment capacity is 550 people for black water and 225 for black and gray water.

Severn Trent De Nora Introduces Mariner Omnipure

Severn Trent De Nora has introduced the Mariner Omnipure series of marine sanitation devices. The USCG Certified Type II Mariner Omnipure units provide the same electrolytic treatment benefits of larger Omnipure units, but with less maintenance and a small, compact size designed for workboats, crewboats and vessels. With treatment capacities of up to 60 persons in black water and up to 25 persons in black and gray water, the largest unit treats 1,796 gallons (6,800 liters) of human wastewater per day. The Mariner Omnipure provides effective electrolytic treatment of both black and gray water through a patented and certified treatment process.
