Port of Pittsburgh Seeks Technology Testers

The Port of Pittsburgh Commission seeks local companies and individuals to participate in its Wireless Waterway (WW) Interoperability Test Bed (ITB) the week of June 15, 2014. The commission is accepting applications through April 1, 2014 from interested entrepreneurs, organizations and vendors to conduct demonstrations of technologies and products on the WWITB. In addition it seeks volunteers both to act as professional evaluators and to assist in the operations of the event. The commission established this test bed to help identify technologies which addressed critical river water challenges in the areas of river transportation, communications, environment, safety, sensor, communications, cyber-security, collaboration and interoperability.

Maritime training specialists, STAR Center, upgrades its bridge simulator for an unparalleled 360 degree training experience. Digital Projection International (DPI), an Emmy® Award-winning manufacturer of high-performance projection systems, Scalable Display Technologies, a leading provider of software for automatic edge-blending, and Electric Picture, a leading systems integrator recently collaborated on a significant system upgrade to STAR Center’s maritime training simulator in Dania Beach, FL. This upgrade resulted in increased imagery resolution and vertical coverage, improved color management and made overall system maintenance more efficient.

$5.3M Navy Deal Awarded

Concurrent Technologies Corp., Johnstown, Pa., is being awarded a $5,310,332 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for continuing research and development under the Dominant Battlespace Command (DBC) Program. for the end objective of the DBC system. The DBC Program's ultimate objective is to extend visualization and display technologies and integrate them with emerging command, control, communication, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance concepts to evolve a system that provides dominant battlespace awareness. Work will be performed in Johnstown, Pa., and is expected to be completed by January 2003. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured under a Naval Research Laboratory broad agency announcement.
