Bristol Harbor Group Promotes Eling

Bristol, R.I. based naval architecture and marine engineering form Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI) announced it has promoted a member of its team, Daniel P. Eling, P.E., to a managerial position.Eling, a senior naval architect with six years of experience at the firm, has been promoted to the role of engineering manager.Eling holds a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Rhode Island.

US Navy to Roll out Underwater Spy Satellites

The robotic series that remade crusade in skies will shortly extend to a low sea, with underwater view “satellites,” drone-launching pods on a sea building and unmanned ships sport submarines, reports AFP. The pods could launch surveillance drones in the air or at sea or provide a communications link when American forces are facing electronic jamming, said Jared Adams, spokesman for Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). USJ-IMECO Acquires Joiner Systems

Affiliates of USJ-IMECO Holding Company, LLC , a portfolio company of J.F. Lehman & Company (JFLCO), today announced the acquisition of Joiner Systems, Inc. Joiner Systems, headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, primarily designs, engineers and manufactures accommodation systems for commercial and government ships. USJ-IMECO is an independent provider of turnkey marine joiner, distributed systems and electro-mechanical solutions for government and commercial customers involved in new ship construction and vessel maintenance, repair and overhaul. Headquartered in Crozet, Va. and Iron Mountain, Mich., the company employs approximately 700 people across the United States. USJ and IMECO were acquired by J.F.

ShipConstructor Targets Enterprise Clients

The latest release of ShipConstructor, a 3D CAD/CAM software toolset for the shipbuilding and offshore industries, is specifically targeted for use on large-scale projects. ShipConstructor 2009 is compatible with AutoCAD 2009 and includes numerous enhancements designed to increase efficiency when working with complex 3D product models as well as features aimed at reducing production costs. ShipConstructor 2009 will allow 64-bit capability on the Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7 platforms. This added capability will allow modellers to load larger portions of the 3D model into a single working session at a greater level of detail with increased program stability. Another enhancement is significant improvements involving the creation of 3D Virtual Reality (VR) models.

ShipConstructor Expands Presence in Italy

ShipConstructor Software Inc. (SSI) has enhanced its presence in Italy with the addition of an Italian-language certified Distributed Systems instructor, Giuseppe Fanello of inNave SRL. Fanello is now certified to train Italian-language clients on the use of ShipConstructor Distributed Systems modules: Pipe, HVAC and Equipment. He is also certified to provide training for modules: Hull/ShipCAM, Structure, Penetrations, ProductHierarchy, Weld, ManualNest, Automatic Nest, Profile Nest, Report, NC-Pyros and Flythrough. Industry Collaborates with ShipConstructor

"ShipConstructor's software is widely used at U.S. shipyards so it was natural for our industry group to collaborate with them," said Don Sauvage of Northrop Grumman. ShipConstructor has recently completed a series of meetings with US shipbuilders and design firms regarding methods for enhancing Design for Production (DFP). These meetings have been part of a project funded by the National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) involving Northrop Grumman (Avondale & Pascagoula), Bollinger Shipyards, Marinette Marine, VT Halter Marine, as well as Genoa Design.

Navy's Top Engineers and Scientists Honored

By Lt. Cmdr. John T. The Acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition, John S. Thackrah, today honored 46 of the Department of the Navy's top scientists and engineers at the second annual Top Navy Scientists and Engineers of the Year award ceremony at the Pentagon, May 29. The Department of the Navy has over 35,000 scientists and engineers pursuing research, development, acquisition and sustainment. The award was established to honor those who reached superior technical achievements and to promote continued scientific and engineering excellence. "This award ceremony recognizes the top scientists and engineers in the Department of the Navy," Thackrah said.
