Bristol, R.I. based naval architecture and marine engineering form Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI) announced it has promoted a member of its team, Daniel P. Eling, P.E., to a managerial position.Eling, a senior naval architect with six years of experience at the firm, has been promoted to the role of engineering manager.Eling holds a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Rhode Island.

The latest release of ShipConstructor, a 3D CAD/CAM software toolset for the shipbuilding and offshore industries, is specifically targeted for use on large-scale projects. ShipConstructor 2009 is compatible with AutoCAD 2009 and includes numerous enhancements designed to increase efficiency when working with complex 3D product models as well as features aimed at reducing production costs. ShipConstructor 2009 will allow 64-bit capability on the Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7 platforms. This added capability will allow modellers to load larger portions of the 3D model into a single working session at a greater level of detail with increased program stability. Another enhancement is significant improvements involving the creation of 3D Virtual Reality (VR) models.

ShipConstructor Software Inc. (SSI) has enhanced its presence in Italy with the addition of an Italian-language certified Distributed Systems instructor, Giuseppe Fanello of inNave SRL. Fanello is now certified to train Italian-language clients on the use of ShipConstructor Distributed Systems modules: Pipe, HVAC and Equipment. He is also certified to provide training for modules: Hull/ShipCAM, Structure, Penetrations, ProductHierarchy, Weld, ManualNest, Automatic Nest, Profile Nest, Report, NC-Pyros and Flythrough. The Department of the Navy has over 35,000 scientists and engineers pursuing research, development, acquisition and sustainment. The award was established to honor those who reached superior technical achievements and to promote continued scientific and engineering excellence. "This award ceremony recognizes the top scientists and engineers in the Department of the Navy," Thackrah said.
