Mercury Marine Opens New Global Distribution Center in Indiana

Mercury Marine opened its new, purpose-built distribution center to support its parts and accessories business. The new 512,000 square foot facility is located near Indianapolis, Ind., a major thoroughfare connecting Mercury’s global customers that will improve delivery and service and will add much needed capacity for scale, stability, and reduced logistics costs, the company said.Mercury’s current distribution facility at its global headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wis., will be repurposed to support its propulsion systems…

Stolt-Nielsen LNG, Golar LNG and Höegh LNG in Joint $182 Million Investment

Stolt-Nielsen Limited (Oslo Børs: SNI), Golar LNG Ltd and Höegh LNG Holdings Ltd. announced a combined investment commitment of $182 million in Avenir LNG Ltd. to pursue opportunities to deliver LNG to areas of stranded demand, as well as the development of LNG bunkering capabilities.The investment will be contributed as cash and equity-in-kind and will fund the construction of six small-scale LNG carriers, a small-scale storage terminal and regasification facilities.Avenir LNG was formed by Stolt-Nielsen in 2017 to provide LNG to markets lacking access to natural gas pipelines.

Oakland Port Okays Seaport Logistics Complex

A long-held vision to revitalize this city’s decommissioned Army base is nearer reality at the Port of Oakland. Port Commissioners have given initial approval to a landmark deal with CenterPoint Properties for a logistics center at the former base. The tentative agreement caps nearly 15 years of planning for the most-anticipated Port growth project ever. Port officials said today that the agreement includes unprecedented commitments to hire local workers. “The future is at hand,” said Port of Oakland Executive Director Chris Lytle. The Board of Port Commissioners voted initial approval of the agreement last night. It comes up for final vote Nov. 30. If Commissioners say yes a second time, the deal becomes official in January.

Six Countries Vie for US$2 Bln Philippines LNG Hub

State-run Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) has shortlisted six countries and will choose one from them as a partner for its planned US$2 billion receiving and distribution facility for imported LNG, Reuters reported. The company has received six proposals from China, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to co-build the LNG hub, PNOC’s head of LNG team and technical adviser Arwin Ardon quoted as saying. He said all proposals include storage, liquefaction, regassification, a power plant, and distribution facility as part of the LNG terminal. CSSC Launches New Marine Service Business

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) said it has formally launched a new business CSSC Marine Service Co., Ltd, to coincide with the inauguration of its new logistics center within the Yangshang free trade zone, Shanghai. The inauguration was marked with a ceremony on June 30, 2017, attended by more than 150 industry representatives from ship owning, managing and operating companies, along with key cooperation partners ABB, MAN PrimServ and WinGD. Able to accommodate more than 20,000 kinds of original small parts including fuel injection equipment, piston rings, pipes, flaps and valves, and large parts such as cylinder liners, covers and piston crowns. The third party operated center forms phase one of an overall project for CSSC Marine Service Co., Ltd.

Stolt-Nielsen Orders Small LNG Carriers

Stolt-Nielsen Limited subsidiary Stolt-Nielsen Gas B.V. (SNG) has contracted with Keppel Singmarine for the construction of two 7,500 cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, with options to purchase three additional similar ships. The ships are to be built at Keppel Singmarine's shipyard in Nantong, China, with deliveries scheduled in the second and third quarter of 2019 respectively. The contract for the initial two ships is valued at approximately $80 million, including site-team costs and capitalized interest during construction. The ships will be capable of operating on either diesel fuel or LNG, with a class notation and technical capability for STS (ship-to-ship) bunkering, thus significantly enhancing their versatility.

Port Manatee Inks Del Monte Lease Extension

Port Manatee says it has signed an agreement to keep Del Monte fruit coming into the Florida Gulf Coast port for as many as 20 more years. Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. Inc., which has imported fruit into the deepwater Florida seaport since 1989, is now signed to a lease extension with Port Manatee through August 30, 2021, with options for three additional extensions of five years each. If all options are exercised, Del Monte will be doing business at Port Manatee until at least 2036.

Stolt-Nielsen Buys Stake in Sardinian LNG Project

Stolt-Nielsen Limited announced today that its subsidiary, Stolt-Nielsen Gas B.V., has purchased 10 percent of the shares in HIGAS S.r.L., with an option to acquire up to 80 percent of the company. HIGAS is a joint venture between Gas and Heat S.p.A. and CPL Concordia Soc. Coop, with plans to build and operate an LNG terminal and distribution facility in the port of Oristano, Sardinia. The LNG is to be shipped to the terminal by LNG tankers and distributed to customers via pipeline and trucks. The terminal is expected to be completed in 2017. Commenting on the project, Andrew Pickering, President, Stolt-Nielsen LNG Holdings Ltd., said, "This joint venture represents SNL's third strategic investment in the LNG segment, where our focus is on meeting what we call 'stranded demand' for LNG.

London Gateway Logistics Park Breaks Ground

A ground-breaking ceremony was held at DP World’s London Gateway Logistics Park to mark the start of construction on a 316,000 square foot distribution facility. The building is being developed speculatively as an equal joint venture between DP World, one of the world’s largest port operators, and Prologis, the global leader in industrial real estate. Brennan Expands Inventory Capabilities in Canada

New facility and positive customer response spur inventory growth in hydraulic and instrumentation product lines. Brennan Industries, Inc., an international supplier of hydraulic fittings and adapters, announced it is more than doubling its inventory in Canada at its distribution facility, located in Mississauga, Ontario. “We’re in the process of bulking up our product inventory in Mississauga,” said Bill Jarrell, vice president of marketing and operations at Brennan Industries. Brennan is primarily increasing its inventory of hydraulic and instrumentation product lines.

GPA Achieves Records in Total Tonnage, Autos

At the Georgia Ports Authority board meeting Monday, Executive Director Curtis Foltz reported that the GPA achieved record volumes and added additional customer accounts in October. "Strong growth, new customer accounts and additional harbor deepening funding announced this month are all positive signs that Georgia's ports are moving in the right direction," said Foltz. Georgia ports moved a record 2.54 million tons of cargo during October – a 22% increase over the same month a year ago. The Colonel’s Island Terminal at the Port of Brunswick and Savannah’s Ocean Terminal combined to move a record 62,343 units of automobiles and heavy machinery in October, for an increase of 10,045 or 19.2% over October 2012.

GAC's Enlarged Indonesian Warehouse Completed

An additional 15,000 square metres has been added to the PT GAC Samudera Logistics (GSL) warehouse & distribution centre in Lippo Cikarang. The addition boosts the company's standing as one of Indonesia's largest third-party logistics (3PL) providers. Coast Guard Responds To Barge Fire

The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of a fire that occurred during the transfer of fuel on board a barge at the Citgo Bulk Storage and Distribution Facility in . A 49-year-old man from , was on board the 592-ft. barge SMT Two, operated by the Jacksonville-based company Intrepid Ship Management Inc., and was monitoring the transfer of gasoline when a fire started in a machinery space below him. The man was able to evacuate the space but suffered burns on his hands and face. He was transferred to by emergency medical service personnel. His condition is unknown. Another crewmember was able to close the space and put out the fire with installed fire-extinguishing equipment. The SMT Two arrived from , and is carrying 75,000 barrels of jet fuel and 15,000 barrels of gasoline.

New Va. Container Terminal to Prepare Mid-Atlantic Region for Growth

APM Terminals North America Inc. announced plans to build a container terminal located on the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dredging is expected to start later this year, and construction of the terminal is expected to be completed in 2007. The facility will feature 4000 ft. (1219 meters) of deepwater berth space (four times the current amount), and serve as a Mid-Atlantic platform for future growth. Many high profile international companies have significant operations in the region and others are actively eyeing major distribution centers for the future. The amount of cargo through Hampton Roads is expected to at least double by 2020, in part due to the area’s attraction as a major distribution center.

Port of NY/NJ Sets Cargo Records in 2004

Acting New Jersey Governor Richard J. Codey today announced that the Port of New York and New Jersey had another record year in 2004, handling more international cargo than ever and surpassing for the first time the $110 billion mark in the total value of all cargo handled. During a press conference at the APM Terminal at the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal, Acting Governor Codey outlined plans by New Jersey and the region to address the challenges associated with future growth in oceanborne cargo.
