Cyber Security: Dualog Launches New Service

Dualog has taken shipboard cyber security to a higher level by launching a new service that promises to protect vessels and their onboard IT systems, a literal first line of defense, blocking malware and unwanted data traffic at the DNS level.This extra level is particularly important factor if you consider the findings of a Cisco Security Research paper which claims that 91.3 % of malware uses DNS in attacks.Dualog Protect blocks ransom-ware, trojans and phishing attempts as well as preventing ‘command-and-control call-backs’ and data exfiltration. By operating at the DNS-level, the service protects all computers and devices attached to all onboard networks.

DNS Appoints Esson, Chief Executive

Decom North Sea (DNS), the representative body for the offshore decommissioning industry, which promotes and facilitates collaboration and cost reduction, today appointed a new chief executive. Roger Esson brings over 20 years’ highly relevant experience as DNS continues to play a critical part in the development of the UK decommissioning sector. Study Targets Improved Subsea Mattress Salvage

Independent multi-discipline subsea engineering and training firm Jee Ltd. has completed a contract with Decom North Sea (DNS), the representative body for the decommissioning industry, to identify methods of salvage and re-use options for concrete subsea mattresses. The aim of the project, which commenced in February 2015 and saw Jee partner with DNS and Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS), was to identify new solutions for subsea mattress removal which would work without diver interventions during the lift procedure, resulting in improved safety and reduced costs.

Decom North Sea to Host “Lunch and Learn”

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil and gas decommissioning forum, is hosting a “lunch and learn” event to give supply chain companies the opportunity to present their offshore decommissioning capabilities and encourage knowledge share among members. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 19, at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, Aberdeen, from 12-2 p.m. The event will include a presentation from Claxton Engineering, a company providing a broad range of cutting and abandonment services using methodologies that have been deployed on more than 260 well abandonments and slot recoveries.

Decom North Sea to Host Lunch and Learn

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil and gas decommissioning forum, will host a lunch and learn event to share valuable insight into decommissioning, including lessons learned from recent projects. The event will take place on Wednesday, January 15, at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, Aberdeen, from 12-2 p.m. The event will include a presentation from Offshore Installation Services (OIS), a contractor specialising in decommissioning project management that recently completed its 17th offshore campaign by permanently abandoning six wells in the Central North Sea.

Industry Forum to Offer Decommissioning Course

Decommissioning industry body Decom North Sea (DNS) is launching a new training course to give an overview of the sector. With decommissioning spend forecast to be around £1 billion a year for decades to come and the government recently announcing changes to bring more stability to the sector, increased employee numbers will be needed to maximize the opportunities on offer to the supply chain. As a result, DNS is to start holding two-day training courses in key locations across the U.K.

First Operators Trial Decommissioning Program Template

A standard program template for U.K. offshore decommissioning projects has been credited with heralding a step-change for the industry after being formally endorsed by the U.K. regulators and successfully trialed by three international operators for different types of asset. Decommissioning industry body Decom North Sea (DNS) developed the template in partnership with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). The new template will help streamline and standardize the format for decommissioning programs throughout the UKCS whilst still fully satisfying regulatory requirements.

Decom North Sea to Host Lunch and Learn Event

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil and gas decommissioning forum, will host a lunch and learn to provide attendees with an insight into supply chain companies’ decommissioning capabilities. The lunch and learn event will take place on June 19 at the Palm Court Hotel in Aberdeen from noon-2 p.m., where three companies will give presentations on their expertise and raise awareness of their services. The event is the latest in a regular series of talks to allow both members and non- members of DNS to attend presentations from major operators and contractors, along with an opportunity to collaborate and network. This month's lunch and learn will include presentations from EOT Cutting Services, Norisol Norge AS and SMRU Ltd.

UK Energy Minister To Attend Decommissioning Event

UK Energy Minister John Hayes is due to speak at a new one-day event for the oil & gas decommissioning sector established to help overcome the challenges facing companies dealing with infrastructure that has come to the end of the lifecycle. He joins a line-up including some of the oil & gas decommissioning sector’s most experienced figures who will present at Decom Offshore 2013, being held by Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil & gas decommissioning forum. It is taking place in Aberdeen on March 27. The aim of the day, entitled ‘‘Decom Offshore – Confronting Challenges, Creating Opportunities’, is to introduce operators and major contractors to innovative technologies, techniques and solutions which can help overcome key issues faced in decommissioning projects.

Decommissioning Body Elects New Directors

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil & gas decommissioning forum, held its annual general meeting last night in St Andrews, with 10 new directors elected from across all sectors of the decommissioning industry. The meeting heard that the supply chain body now has 213 fee paying members. Attendees were also given an overview of Decom North Sea activity over the past year and an update on progress against the various strategic objectives. Brian Nixon, Decom North Sea’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have elected a board of experienced directors to Decom North Sea. These industry professionals bring experience and knowledge from various sectors of the industry, which is vitally important for DNS going forward.

Sharp Rise Seen in North Sea Decommissioning

Decom North Sea (DNS), the organization which represents the North Sea’s oil and gas decommissioning industry, has welcomed changes in the budget which will boost the sector, leading to new jobs and investment in new equipment. With annual decommissioning expenditure in the North Sea forecast to top £1billion within a few years and a total of about £35billion due to be spent over the next 20 to 30 years, DNS had called for the budget to provide long-term certainty. The forum has around 200 members, drawn from across the full spectrum of the industry, including operators and contractors. O&G industry body Decom North Sea acts to try to ease predicted skills shortages

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil & gas decommissioning forum, has commissioned research into the future labour and skills requirements for the growing decommissioning sector to try to alleviate predicted skills shortages in future. With more than £1billion a year of decommissioning expenditure forecast for the UK North Sea by 2015 and only 7% of projects completed to date, DNS will make its findings available to training bodies to help ensure appropriately skilled people are available.

An industry body set up to ensure businesses are ready to secure opportunities from decommissioning work over the coming years will shortly launch a major mapping exercise to help the supply chain benefit from the $38.6b to $46.3b of North Sea work forecast for the future. The work by Decom North Sea will help promote the capability and capacity of the North Sea supply chain for decommissioning projects, as well as showcasing supply chain companies and their individual expertise and experience.

LR Asia Wins Major China Order

Lloyd’s Register Asia has signed a contract with Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co, Ltd (DNS) for its single biggest order in China to date, for 17 ships (seven VLCCs and 10 container ships), representing a total of over 1,500,000 gt.
