KenzFigee Secures Contract from Aker Solutions

Lifting specialist KenzFigee has signed a contract with Aker Solutions for the supply of an offshore pedestal crane destined for the Norfolk Vanguard West offshore wind farm developed by Vattenfall.The delivery involves an electric hydraulic box boom offshore Ram Luffing 2400 type with a SWL of 20t, designed and manufactured by KenzFigee for installation on the Norfolk Vanguard high-voltage, direct current converter station situated off the coast of Norfolk, UK.The crane is designed and verified in accordance with EN13852-1 and certified to DNVGL-ST-0378 lifting requirements…

Van Oord Installs Slip Joint Foundation at Borssele Wind Farm Site

Dutch offshore installation and construction company has installed what it calls the "Slip Joint" foundation at the Borssele Wind Farm Site V in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.The Slip Joint is an alternative connection between foundation elements, a monopile, and a transition piece. MOL Gets AiP for Containership Bow Wind-Shield

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that, DNVGL issued an Approval In Principle (AIP) to MOL and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for Bow Wind-Shield designed for Ultra-Large Container Carrier on 30th October, 2019.This newly developed Bow Wind-Shield reduces the wind resistance on hull body of while ship is running, and it is expected CO2 reduction up to about 2–4% owing to optimal design for Ultra-Large Container Carrier. DNV GL Wins Baltic Pipe Project

The international oil & gas advisory and classification society DNV GL has won a major contract to provide independent verification services for the Danish transmission system operator Energinet’s section of the Baltic Pipe project, offshore Denmark.The Baltic Pipe project aims to enable the transport of gas from Norway from a tie-in to the existing Europipe II in the Danish North Sea to the export facility in Zealand. The pipeline in the Baltic Sea towards Poland is not included in the contract. The Baltic Pipe project is planned to be fully operational by 1 October 2022.DNV GL’s contract scope includes independent verification and submarine pipeline certification to the DNV GL certification regime DNVGL-SE-0475.

Wight Shipyard Delivers New Ferry

UK shipbuilder Wight Shipyard has completed its third and largest vessel for MBNA Thames Clippers, the 38-metre catamaran ferry Venus Clipper.The first Hunt Class Mk3 has been built to a ten-month build schedule and is reflective of the increased business the yard has previously predicted in the fast ferry sector, said a release.Peter Morton, CEO, Wight Shipyard, said: "One of the most important elements that strengthens this sector is that it is cushioned against the effects of the 2020 low sulphur cap and is actually in a better position than the conventional ferry market.”“This is because it does not have to worry about finding the increased capex to fit scrubbers or face a huge surge in costs by changing to low sulphur fuel, as fast ferries already run on low sulphur fuel.

BW Offshore Recycling FSO Belokamenka

The provider of floating production services to the oil and gas industry BW Offshore has signed an agreement to dispose of the FSO Belokamenka for recycling in compliance with the Hong Kong Convention.The Oslo-listed company said in a press release that the FSO Belokamenka  is an Ultra Large Crude Carrier (ULCC) of 360,700 deadweight-ton capacity built in Japan in 1980.The vessel is 340.5 meters long, 65 meters wide and has a depth of 31.5 meters. It is flagged and registered in Panama and classed by DNVGL, and has been in lay-up off Indonesia since completing a contract as a crude oil terminal off Murmansk, Russia, in late 2015. The vessel is sold for a cash consideration of approximately USD 20 million.To date the recycling yard has not been chosen.

Goliat Field Vessel Switches to Battery Power

Norwegian subsidiary of Italian oil company Eni Norge AS and Stavanger shipping company Simon Møkster Shipping cut fuel consumption on the vessel Stril Barents in the Goliat field.According to a press release from the Norwegean offshore vessel owner, this should be done by installing a land flow system combined with an energy storage battery solution on board.The system will provide better control and higher safety margins as it is installed in addition to existing engines on board. During demanding offshore operations such as dynamic positioning along installations, large load variations can occur, it said.According to the release, the battery will act as an energy buffer that supplies the required energy immediately and thus much faster than an internal combustion engine.

Stena Drillship First to Receive DNV GL MPD Class Notation

DNV GL has revised its classification rules for Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) systems and introduced two new class notations DRILL(MPD) and DRILL(MPD READY). Stena Drilling Ltd. (SDL) is the first drilling contractor to receive the notation Drill(MPD) for their harsh environment drillship Stena Carron. Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is an adaptive drilling process that allows greater control of the annular pressure profile throughout the wellbore.
