Port of Corpus Christi Gets $157.3 Million for Channel Improvement Project

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, approved by Congress in December 2022, includes project closeout funding of $157.3 million for the Port of Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project (CIP) for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). This funding will advance the last phase of the CIP, a national critical infrastructure project that will render the Corpus Christi Ship Channel the most improved in the entire U.S. Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida. The Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project was included in President Joe Biden’s proposed Fiscal Year 2023 Budget released Monday under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Coastal Navigation Construction category. The President’s recommended funding targeted project closeout appropriations of $157.3 million. Once approved by Congress, the appropriation would complete the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project, rendering it the most improved ship channel in the entire U.S. Gulf Coast. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced $19.6 million in grants to support capital improvements at 28 U.S. small shipyards as a part of its Small Shipyard Grant program. The grants enable small shipyards to modernize equipment and processes to fuel future growth. “These grants help create jobs in America’s small shipyards, which play a significant role in our country’s maritime sector,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.In 2013, U.S. shipbuilders produced $37.3 billion in gross domestic product.

TPG Founders Acquire 100% Ownership

Indiana based maritime logistics company TPG Marine Enterprises, LLC said it has purchased 100 percent ownership of its primary operating company TPG Mt. Vernon Marine, LLC, which provides harbor services on the lower Ohio River under the names of Mt. Vernon Barge Service, Green River Barge Service and MVBS Jeffersonville, LLC. It also owns TPG Chicago Dry Dock, LLC, located on the Calumet River. Prior to the purchase at the end of September, TPG Marine Enterprises held majority ownership of TPG Mt.

Delaware River Dredging Contract for GLD&D

Great Lakes Dredge and Dock LLC, Oak Brook, Ill., has been awarded a $14,177,652 firm-fixed-price contract by USACE for deepening the main channel of the Delaware River. The US Department of Defense estimate the completion date to be Nov. 30, 2014 and the contracting authority was Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia, Pa. The company claims it is the largest provider of dredging services in the United States and the only U.S. dredging service provider with significant international operations. It is also one of the largest U.S.

DofD Navy Contracts for UUV's & a NJ Dredging Project

Hydroid Inc has been contracted to deliver the Navy with unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV's) and Great Lakes Dredge Dock by the USACE for placement of dredged materials at  the Keansburg, NJ, project. Hydroid Inc, Pocasset, Mass., is being awarded a $36,323,734 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for the procurement of unmanned underwater vehicles. The unmanned underwater vehicles provide the military force with very shallow water and shallow water mine countermeasures as well as underwater object localization tools. Work will be performed in Pocasset, Mass., and is expected to be completed by September 2018.

Damaged Dredge New York Moved

The 200-foot dredge vessel, the New York, completed necessary minimum repairs to its damaged hull enabling it to be moved to the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn, N.Y., on February 2. The hull was damaged following a collision with the 669-foot freight ship the Orange Sun, north of Shooters Island in Newark Bay, N.J., at about 1:50 p.m. Jan. 24, 2008. Workers from Randive Incorporated installed a steel framed box in the winch room reinforcing the hull and allowing for more stability. Contracted divers also removed and made minor repairs to the dredge vessel's three spuds. The spuds were damaged from the impact of the collision and were holding the vessel in the ground. The repairs needed to make the vessel capable of transit to the Brooklyn Navy Yard took seven days.
