30 Cruise Ships to Reach Qatar Next Year

Qatar's Doha Port expects to receive around 30 cruise ships next year, says Director of Doha Port Management Captain Abdul Aziz Nasser al Yafei. The port had received three cruise ships this year. He also said the new Hamad Port may receive mega cruise ships starting from next year, reports Qatar News Agency (QNA). According to him, Hamad Port is likely to conduct a test run this month to receive commercial vessels. He said the Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani) plays an important role in achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030 by contributing to the diversification of the economy by supporting the tourism sector. As part of the plan, Doha Port is likely to be opened for tourists which will open another front for revenues.

Second Commercial Vessel at New Hamad Port

Hamad Port welcomed its second commercial  carrying the second shipment of cranes which includes four Ship to Shore (STS) Cranes and six Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) Cranes, says a report in the Gulf Times. This, along with other key developments, is expected to help pave the way for the launch of “early operations” for certain types of vessels before the end of the current year, the statement noted. Hamad Port had welcomed the first commercial vessel carrying the first shipment of cranes on July 19. The ship, heavy load carrier Zhen Hua 10, had arrived directly from China. The arrival of third and final shipment of cranes is expected by the end of 2015…

Milaha launches Qatar - India Service

Milaha Maritime & Logistics, a subsidiary of the Qatar based Milaha Group which delivers integrated transport and supply chain solutions in the GCC, has announced the launch of the first direct container service between Qatar and India. The non-stop service will connect Qatar’s Doha port with India’s largest port Nhava Sheva, also known as Jawaharlal Nehru Port, located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The move will further facilitate the thriving trade activities between the two countries that have witnessed a phenomenal growth in the recent years. Unlike existing services in the market, the new weekly service by Milaha will enable direct shipments between Nhava Sheva and Doha without the need for transshipment in Jebel Ali or elsewhere…

Milaha Rolls Out First Direct Qatar-India Service

Milaha Maritime and Logistics, a subsidiary of Milaha Group, launched its first direct container service, known as the Nhava Sheva Doha Express (NDX), between Qatar’s Doha port and India’s port Nhava Sheva in Mumbai. The new service will facilitate the growing trade activities between the two countries by enabling direct shipments without the need for transshipment in Jebel Ali or elsewhere, thus reducing costs. The non-stop service will connect Qatar’s Doha port with India’s largest port Nhava Sheva, also known as Jawaharlal Nehru Port, located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Trade between Qatar and India has seen impressive growth in recent years, with Qatari imports from India nearing a billion dollars in 2014, and this new service is likely to drive that further.

Nakilat to Build 11 Tugs for New Doha Port

Qatar’s New Port Project (NPP) has signed an agreement with Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ) to construct 11 workboats for use at the port. HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, and HE Mr. Jassim Bin Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport, witnessed the signing ceremony between NDSQ and NPP, on Wednesday, 17th December 2014. The contracts were signed by Eng. Abdullah Fadhalah Al Sulaiti, Chairman of NDSQ and Managing Director of Nakilat, and Capt. Abdulla Al-Khanji CEO Qatar Ports Management Company & NPP General Supervisor. NDSQ will build four 29m-long Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tug boats, three 16m-long mooring boats and four15m-long glass reinforced plastic (GRP) pilot boats.

Trelleborg Gets Big Fender Order for Qatar New Port

After five years spent working closely with the construction company, Trelleborg has secured the $24.5 million (€19.5million) contract. The deal is approximately three times larger than any other marine fender contract previously placed and is due for delivery commencing at the end of 2012 and completion in early 2015. The $7.1billion (€5.8billion) value port project is currently the world's largest greenfield port-development project. Trelleborg will supply the New Port Project with 829 fender systems, including 557 super cone fenders for the port’s marine services terminal, container terminals (one is part of phase one, and two further terminals ready for future development), flour mill and main vehicle terminal.

Maritime Defense Expo Opens in Doha

The Heir Apparent and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Qatar Armed Forces Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani inaugurated the third Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (Dimdex 2012)  at the Qatar National Convention Centre, reports the Gulf Times newspaper. The event, which is the only comprehensive maritime defence exhibition and conference in the region, is set to advance knowledge in maritime issues and offer an opportunity for exhibitors to highlight the latest advances in naval technology. Dimdex 2012 and the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC) brings together the region’s top naval commanders, thinkers and academics who discuss the current state of maritime security.

Middle East Port Set for Huge Development

The Steering Committee of the New Doha Port Project is set to sign a QR4.5 billion contract for dredging the main channel after it had awarded its bid to Middle East Dredging Company. It is the second construction contract to be inked after Phase 1 of the New Port Project to construct Port Basin and Inner Breakwaters was awarded to China Harbour Engineering Company in January last year. The contract, which will be signed shortly, includes dredging and construction of the 15-meter deep approach channel. The New Port Project is scheduled to be operational in 2016.
