Titanic Shipyard Files for Insolvency

The Belfast shipyard Harland and Wolff, the 158-year-old shipyard in Northern Ireland that built the Titanic, is preparing for bankruptcy.The ship building company was put into administration on Monday after its bankrupt Norwegian owner Dolphin Drilling failed to find a buyer and calls for its nationalization were rebuffed.The shipyard has been occupied by workers since last Monday as part of a high-profile campaign to save the yard, which is due to formally cease trading at 5.15pm on Monday.They said on Monday they would block administrators from entering the site. Statoil Extends Bideford Dolphin Contract

Dolphin Drilling AS, a subsidiary of Fred. Olsen Energy ASA, has extended contract with Statoil for Bideford Dolphin. "We have entered into a one well contract extension, including one optional well, with Statoil for use of the semi-submersible drilling rig Bideford Dolphin for operation on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, with commencement latest 31 July 2017," said a statement from the company.   The one-well program is estimated to take 50 days and estimated contract value is approximately USD 8.6 million.

Keppel Shipyard Wins FPSO Conversion Contract

Even as world energy prices continue to maintain low pricing levels, offshore contracts are there to be won. Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd has secured a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) conversion contract as well as three repair, upgrade and modification contracts worth a total of about S$125 million. The FPSO conversion project Keppel Shipyard will be undertaking is for Armada Madura EPC Limited, a joint venture between long-standing customer Bumi Armada Berhad (Bumi Armada) and Shapoorji Pallonji Group (Shapoorji Pallonji). "This is our third conversion/upgrading project for the joint venture," said Michael Chia, Managing Director (Marine & Technology), Keppel O&M.

Major Oil Rig Contract for Harland and Wolff

In a multi-million pound boost to the Northern Ireland economy, Belfast ship builder Harland and Wolff has secured a contract to carry out major work on an oil rig. Dolphin Drilling Limited has awarded H&W the contract for the drydocking and Renewal/Special Periodic Survey of its Byford Dolphin Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU). H&W Director of ship and offshore unit repair, James Lappin said that this was a significant project for Harland and Wolff and for Northern Ireland. As well as employment opportunities, the supply chain within Northern Ireland will see significant activity in support of the project, he added. Around 1,000 contractors will be employed to overhaul the structure for up to 10 weeks and 60 permanent staff are to be recruited, the Belfast firm announced.

Rush Hour Off the Sogne Coast

This summer will be a busy time for StatoilHydro and the group’s suppliers off the Sogne region of western Norway, with marine operations on both Gjøa and Vega. These activities are intended to prepare the two North Sea fields to start production next year. “We have 20 units at work and are due to perform some 1,000 vessel days,” reported Bjørn Midttun, head of subsea installations, pipelines and marine operations on Gjøa. Roughly 200 kilometres of oil and gas pipelines will be laid, along with a 100-kilometre transmission cable from Mongstad near Bergen to supply the floating platform with power from shore. Installing umbilicals, risers, and connection and protection structures, and making more than 60 connections, are just some of the other jobs to be done.

Drilling Complete on Gas/Oil Discovery

StatoilHydro has completed the drilling of an appraisal well on the Pan/Pandora gas/oil discovery south of the Visund field in the North Sea. The purpose of well 34/8-14 A was to delineate the 34/8-14 S Pan/Pandora discovery in the northern segment of this structure. "The area south of Visund has a considerable remaining resource potential, and we are very pleased that the expectations as to the northern extension of the discovery now have been confirmed," says the head of infrastructure-led exploration west, May-Liss Hauknes.

Oil discovery in the North Sea

StatoilHydro Petroleum has concluded drilling of a development well with an exploration target, well 35/11-B-23-H in the Fram area. The well is located 10 km north of Troll. The purpose of this well was to prove petroleum in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks in the ”C Øst” prospect. The well proved petroleum. The size of the discovery is from 3 – 6 million Sm3 oil equivalents, most of which is oil. The licensees in the production licence will consider producing the discovery to the Fram field. Many exploration wells have been drilled in production licence 090.

Extension of drilling contract for Bredford Dolphin

Fred. Olsen Energy ASA has, via its subsidiary, Dolphin Drilling Ltd, received notification of a contract extension from Agip Gas BV for the semi-submersible drilling rig Bredford Dolphin. The rig has been operating offshore Libya since March 2003. The extended contract is on the same terms and conditions as the current contract and includes a rig rate of approximately $64,000 per day. The extension period covers the time to drill one additional well and test and complete five sub sea wells and is expected to keep the rig employed towards the end of second quarter 2004.
