Rolls-Royce Canada said it has won a contract with BAE Systems for its mission bay handling technology for the U.K. Royal Navy’s new Type 26 Global Combat Ship. Rolls-Royce to Power Korean Naval Frigates

Rolls-Royce said it has won a contract to supply MT30 marine gas turbines to power the next three ships in the Republic of Korea Navy’s Daegu-class frigate program. The frigates are intended for a variety of missions including anti-submarine warfare, anti-air warfare, patrol, surveillance, search and rescue, protection of EEZ and transport. In all Eight Daegu-class frigates (also known as FFX Batch 2) are scheduled to be built, the first of which is being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) and was launched at DSME's Okpo shipyard in June 2016.

Gas Turbine Passes FAT for Italian Navy Ship

Rolls-Royce said it has achieved a milestone for the Italian Navy’s new Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) multi-purpose amphibious vessel, to be built by Fincantieri one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, by successfully completing the factory acceptance test for the vessel’s first MT30 Gas Turbine. Royce to Power High-speed Italian Naval Vessels

The construction of two new high-speed multipurpose vessels (UNPAV) for the Italian Navy has recently begun at Intermarine’s Sarzana shipyard. Rolls-Royce has won the contract to supply engines and waterjets to power and propel the two new vessels, which will be used by the Operational Incursion Group (Gruppo Operativo Incursori or G.O.I), the Special Forces of the Italian Navy, for maritime traffic control, combating human trafficking, counter terror and antipiracy operations and crisis evacuations.

Rolls-Royce Equipped Vessels Enter Service with Qatari CG

Qatar’s Coast Guard Command has taken delivery of the first in a series of 17 composite hull boats powered and propelled by MTU high-speed engines and Rolls-Royce Kamewa waterjets. The vessels, two Ares 75 and one Ares 110 Hercules, will be the first three boats of this program to be delivered by the end of this month. Two additional boats are planned to be delivered by the end of the year; one Ares 75 and one 110 Hercules. Meanwhile, preparations for the construction of the first Ares 150 class boat have already been completed and its launch is expected towards the end of next year.

Rolls-Royce Wins Deal to Power USN TAO

Rolls-Royce won a contract to supply diesel generators, propellers and shaft lines for the US Navy’s new fleet replenishment oiler ships, the John Lewis Class. Planned to total 17 ships, the new John Lewis class (previously known as TAO – X) will increase the US Navy’s capability to transfer fuel to its surface ships, in operations around the globe. For each ship, Rolls-Royce will supply two Kamewa 150A Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP), while two Bergen B32:40xL8A generator sets will provide power to satisfy on board energy requirements. “We are extremely proud to have been chosen to supply mission critical power and propulsion equipment to the US Navy’s new fleet of replenishment oilers," said Don Roussinos, Rolls-Royce, President – Naval.

Italian Navy Opts for Rolls-Royce Gas Turbine

Rolls-Royce signed a contract with Fincantieri to provide MT30 gas turbines to power the Italian Navy’s new multi-purpose amphibious vessel. The Derby-based company will supply two of its MT30 gas turbines to power a 20,000-tonne landing helicopter dock vessel, which will be the second largest ship in Italy’s navy. Based on Rolls’ Trent 800 jet engine used on aircraft such as the Boeing 777, the MT30 is already installed on the Royal Navy’s new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers and is due to be used in Type 26 frigates when work on them begins. The ship will be built by Fincantieri under the Legge Navale ‘Naval Law’ – a major investment programme to renew the Italian naval fleet.

Rolls-Royce Gas Turbines for UK Royal Navy

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract to supply the MT30 gas turbine packages for the first three Type 26 Global Combat Ships for the Royal Navy. Rolls-Royce will now begin manufacture of the gas turbines and the surrounding steel packages for the ships, which are to be built by prime contractor BAE Systems. Rolls-Royce Power Package for USS Zumwalt

Rolls-Royce announced delivery of the twin fixed pitch propellers to Bath Iron Works for installation on the U.S. Navy’s most modern surface combatant, the future USS Zumwalt, the first ship of the DDG 1000 multi-mission destroyer class. The provision of the twin fixed pitch propellers marks the completion of the power and propulsion system delivery from Rolls-Royce, following the MT30 main turbine generator sets and the RR4500 auxiliary turbine generator sets, which have already been installed and tested.

Propulsion Systems Ordered for Qatar Coastguard Vessels

Rolls-Royce has secured a £15.8 million contract to supply Rolls-Royce MTU high-speed engines and a suite of waterjet propulsion systems for the the Qatar Coastguard’s 17 fast patrol vessels under construction at Turkey’s ARES Shipyard. The scope of supply for Rolls-Royce Includes a total of 46 engines and waterjets, across three different sizes of craft. MTU 12V2000M84 diesel engines and Rolls-Royce Kamewa 50A3 series waterjets will be installed on five 24-meter ARES 75 HERCULES patrol boats and ten of the 34-meter ARES 110 HERCULES design.

Rolls-Royce Unveils Gas Turbine Service and Test Facility

Vice Admiral Simon Lister, Chief of Materiel (Fleet), Defense Equipment and Support, opened a new gas turbine testing center last week at the Rolls-Royce facility at Filton, Bristol, U.K. The Rolls-Royce Test Facility now includes a new WR-21 Test Cell, to support the maintenance requirements of the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers. Successful MTG Light Off for USS Zumwalt

The future USS Zumwalt, the first ship of the DDG 1000 multimission destroyer class, performed a successful Generator Light-Off of its first Main Turbine Generator Set (MTG) this week, Rolls-Royce announced. The ship is now power self-sufficient enabling follow-on systems testing and trials. Gas Turbine Acceptance Test Completed for S. Korea Navy

Rolls-Royce has reached a milestone in the Republic of Korea Navy’s FFX frigate program, with the successful completion of acceptance tests for the MT30 gas turbine. The MT30, which will power the FFX Batch II frigates, is the world’s most power-dense marine gas turbine, meaning it packs in the maximum power into the smallest available space on board the ship, Rolls-Royce said. The FFX Batch II program is for eight ships, the first of which will be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).

Rolls-Royce congratulates US Navy on christening of USS Zumwalt

Rolls-Royce congratulated the US Navy on the christening of the USS Zumwalt, the first of its new and highly sophisticated DDG 1000 multi-mission destroyer class of ship. The 600 foot long all-electric ship was christened by sponsors Ann Zumwalt and Mouzetta Zumwalt-Weathers at Bath Iron Works in Maine during a ceremony attended by thousands of people, including The Honorable Ray Mabus, the Secretary of the Navy, and other dignitaries. Rolls-Royce to Design Gas Turbine for U.K. Combat Ship

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a contract to design the gas turbine system for the U.K. Royal Navy’s future Type 26 Global Combat Ship, which will, subject to contract, feature the marine gas turbine Rolls-Royce MT30. Rolls-Royce will work with prime contractor BAE Systems and Tognum, Rolls-Royce’s collaboration with Daimler, to design the advanced propulsion system. This system will combine the Rolls-Royce MT30 gas turbine with four of Tognum’s MTU high-speed diesel generator sets.

Rolls-Royce Delivers Waterjets for US Navy LCS

Rolls-Royce delivered the Axial Mk1 waterjet for the latest Freedom-variant of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) class, currently under construction for the U.S. Navy. This delivery marks the successful completion of the Office of Naval Research’s (ONR) Future Naval Capabilities (FNC) program for “Compact, High Power Density Waterjets”. This new  waterjet will now be standard equipment for all future Freedom variants of the Littoral Combat Ships supplied to the U.S. Navy by Lockheed Martin.

Rolls-Royce delivers advanced new Axial Mk1 waterjets for the latest US Navy Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). Rolls-Royce Axial Mk1 waterjets are very power dense, delivering more cavitation-free performance for their size and power than any other waterjet. New President, Naval Business, at Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce appoints Don Roussinos as President Naval - Marine, succeeding Andy Marsh. Don, who holds a Bachelors of Science in Electronic Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology and a Master of Management from Cambridge College, joins Rolls-Royce from L-3 Communications where he most recently held the position of President – L-3 Maritime Systems. He has held a number of senior roles at L-3 during his career and has also worked at Lau Technologies, General Electric and Textron. He will be based at the Rolls-Royce North America headquarters in Reston, Virginia and will report to both Tony Wood, President – Marine, and Jim Guyette, President & CEO Rolls-Royce North America Inc.

L-3 Maritime Systems Wins LCS Contract

L-3 Maritime Systems has been awarded a contract from General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems to supply its Seaframe Control System for the next Independence variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). The contract is for the first ship and includes options for an additional 14 ships. L-3 Henschel Wins Sub Contract

L-3 Communications SPD Technologies group said its Henschel business unit has been awarded a contract to provide the integrated communication system (ICS) for the next six VIRGINIA-class (SSN774) submarines. "The integrated communication system award builds on our strong relationship with General Dynamics Electric Boat Division," said Don Roussinos, president of L-3 Communications Henschel. "The multi-year contract ensures we provide Electric Boat the best value for the Virginia-class submarines."
