Donjon Marine Wins NY Dredging Work

Inc., has secured a contract to perform maintenance dredging in Flushing Bay and Creek, in Queens, N.Y.Donjon Marine was one of two online bidders for the $23,970,800 contract, which was awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) New York District. Dredgers are expediting operations in New York to make way for the U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort, which will dock in the epicenter of America's COVID-19 outbreak to assist hospitals that become overrun by the pandemic.Dredging contractor Donjon Marine Co., Inc. was contacted last week and asked to begin dredging Manhattan Cruise Terminal’s Berth 4 in anticipation of the arrival of the ship, which under the order of President Trump will serve as a relief hospital facility for non-coronavirus patients needing hospital care.

Despite a challenging economic climate, the Club’s business developed respectably, and 2016 had started on a positive note. American Club: Solid Progress despite Challenging Market

The American Club reported solid progress during 2014 at the annual meeting of its members held in New York today. Despite a challenging economic climate, the club’s business had developed favorably, and 2015 had started on a positive note. Tonnage and revenue grew strongly at the outset of 2014, but faded slightly later in the year as freight markets struggled. However, premium pricing remained firm, despite the enduring effect of “churn” as older, higher-rated vessels continued to be replaced by younger, lower-rated ships.

Working full-time with Donjon Marine Co., Inc. since 1982, John A. Witte, Jr. is currently Executive Vice President. He oversees the day-to-day operations of Donjon’s Marine Salvage, Demolition, Marine Transportation, Diving, Heavy Lift and Shipbuilding Operations. Witte is also responsible for Donjon’s Regulatory Compliance Program for all marine related activities and has served as Salvage Master on numerous Donjon Salvage projects since 1982. A past President of the American Salvage Association (ASA), Witte today serves as Vice President of the International Salvage Union (ISU).

Donjon Shipbuilding Gets Tank Barge Order

Erie, Pennsylvania shipyard, Donjon Shipbuilding & Repair, reported that Seabulk Tankers has placed an order with them for a petroleum and chemical barge. The wholly owned subsidiary of Donjon Marine Co. Inc. whose main office is in Hillside, N.J., said they have entered into a contract with Seabulk Tankers to construct one 185,000 barrel coastal petroleum and chemical barge, which will become the barge component of an Articulated Tug and Barge (ATB) unit. Multraship’s Muller Appointed President of ISU

Leendert Muller, managing director of leading towage and salvage specialist Multraship, has been appointed the new president of the International Salvage Union (ISU). The appointment was confirmed at the annual general meeting of the ISU in Hong Kong on October 24, 2013. American Club Elects First China Director

Members of the American P&I Club have elected the first director to come from The People’s Republic of China (PRC). At the annual meeting in New York, Lianyu Zhu of CCCC International Shipping Corporation, Tianjin, was elected to the board for the forthcoming year. Mr. Zhu’s company is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company, a major state-owned enterprise (SOE) which is, among other things, the largest port construction and design company in the PRC. The election highlights the American Club’s continuing growth in China in particular and Asia in general, supported by its Shanghai office which it opened in 2007. The American Club reported solid progress on several fronts at the annual meeting of its members held in New York. Despite many challenges, including those intrinsic in a struggling maritime sector hampered by anemic growth in global trade, the club made progress in many areas during 2012 and has started 2013 on a positive note. Salvaging Sandy

When Hurricane Sandy swept across the Caribbean, Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States in late October 2012, the Category 2 storm eventually became the largest Atlantic hurricane on record. Certainly, it ranks as one of the most costly and destructive. Estimates of losses due to damage and business interruption are still being compiled but are expected to exceed $70 billion. Hundreds died as a result of the ferocious storm. In the United States, at least 24 states were impacted, but the damage was particularly severe in New Jersey and New York. The storm surge slammed into New York City on October 29, flooding streets, tunnels and subways and cut power to a large swath of customers in the tri-state area.

Donjon Marine's Emergency Response

Donjon Marine Co. Inc. of Hillside, NJ, was mobilized from its base in Port Newark, New Jersey, to provide an emergency pumping capability in response to the devastation resulting from Hurricane Sandy. Donjon currently holds the US Navy Salvage and Related Services contract for the North Atlantic zone. The US Navy provided support to the stricken region following a request by the US Army Corps of Engineers. By mobilizing its equipment, Donjon was able to provide “soup to nuts” support to the US Navy response.

Erie, Pa. – Seajon LLC, a partnership between Seacor Holdings Inc. and Donjon Marine Co. Inc., held an open house and christening of the 34,000-ton capacity self-unloading articulated tug and barge (ATB) Ken Boothe Sr. and Lakes Contender. This ATB is the first of its kind to be built in Erie, Pennsylvania, since 1972. Donjon reopened the yard in December, 2009. Navy Taps Donjon for Salvage Services

Donjon Marine Co., Inc. has been awarded a $41 million-dollar, ceiling-priced, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-award-fee contract for marine salvage, salvage-related towing, harbor clearance, ocean engineering and point-to-point towing services to support the U.S. Navy’s Director of Ocean Engineering, Supervisor of Salvage and Diving. In addition to the salvage component of this services agreement, Donjon was also awarded a contract to supply the U.S. Navy with Engineering Support Services on a worldwide basis. Donjon Marine Salvages, Redelivers Royal Miss Belmar

On July 25th, Donjon Marine Co., Inc. was awarded a contract to salvage and return to owners the 100-foot passenger ferry Royal Miss Belmar, which grounded on approach to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, on July 4th. Donjon mobilized its 400-ton capacity derrick barge Columbia, NY to the site with its 3000-HP tug Mary Alice to lift the vessel from its grounded position. The recovered vessel was then loaded onto the deck of the Columbia, NY, lashed for seaworthiness, and successfully delivered to Savannah, Georgia, where the vessel was trans-loaded to a local shipyard facility for repair.

Donjon Marine Refloats Sunken Barge 2001 on Kill Van Kull

In early August, the fully loaded hopper barge 2001 sank in approximately 25 feet of water while transiting the Kill Van Kull, a waterway that connects Newark Bay to New York Harbor. The barge was loaded with approximately 1,500 tons of shredded steel, as reported by owners. Donjon removed the cargo, rigged the barge for lift, and later refloated it and returned it to its owners. Donjon Marine, Co., Inc., a provider of multi-faceted marine services including marine salvage, heavy lift, dredging and related emergency response services, was contracted in early November 2011 to raise a 300-ton barge used as a platform for painting supplies and disposal equipment that sank in 100 feet of water after a violent Nor’Easter storm near Newport Pell Bridge in Newport, Rhode Island. The barge also contained oil in three tanks with a reported 2,400 gallons of fuel at the time of the sinking. Working closely with the U.S.
