Huge Semisub Crane Vessel gets AIP

China Merchants Offshore Technology Research Center (CM-OTRC), the R&D center for China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMI) of Shenzhen, China, have completed the basic design of the OOS Zeelandia a new semisubmersible crane vessel (SSCV) that, when built, will have the largest lifting capacity in the world. DP Upgrade for Saipem 7000

One of the world's largest semi-submersible crane and pipelaying vessels has arrived in the Netherlands for an extensive six-month upgrade.The Saipem 7000 is in Damen Verolme Rotterdam (DVR) for a dynamic positioning system overhaul to meet the new closed ring DP3 configuration and ABS EHS-P notation. GM Deep Sea Mooring Secures Det Norske Oljeselskap Contract

Global Maritime Deep Sea Mooring, a provider of offshore mooring services in Norway, has signed a contract with Norwegian operator Det norske oljeselskap to support Prosafe’s semi-submersible Safe Zephyrus accommodation rig in the Ivar Aasen North Sea field. Rolls-Royce Delivers Far Sleipner

Rolls-Royce would like to congratulate Farstad Shipping ASA for their recently named highly advanced subsea and construction vessel Far Sleipner. The event also marks the first delivery of a vessel equipped with the latest generation dynamic positioning system DP3 from Rolls-Royce. Designed and built by Vard (Vard 3 07), the vessel is equipped with Rolls-Royce bridge controls, DP3, engines and propulsion. Børge Nakken, Farstad Shipping, Vice President Technology & Development, said: “The DP3 positioning system onboard Far Sleipner ensures that the vessel stays in position, even in the event of an unforeseen situation, for instance if one out of two separate machinery systems fails.

New Generation SSAV Delivered to PACC Offshore

POSH Xanadu, the first of a new generation of DP3 Semisubmersible Accommodation Vessels (SSAV) for PACC Offshore Services Holdings Limited (POSH), was delivered to Singapore on December 22, 2014, directly embarking on her maiden contract in Brazil with Petrobras for a firm one year charter. Her sister vessel, POSH Arcadia, is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2015. POSH Xanadu and POSH Arcadia, are both classed by DNV. The DNV Comfort Class V(2) C(3) certification means low levels of vibration and noise and a controlled climate.

CIMC Raffles Starts Norway's Semisub Construction

Chinese semi-submersible rig specialist CIMC Raffles has kicked off construction of a deep-water unit destined for operation in Norway’s North Sea and other challenging regions such as the Arctic and Barents Sea.Construction started yesterday. Beacon Atlantic, built for Norway’s rig player North Sea Rigs to the GM4-D design, will be capable of operating in water depths of 500 metres with drilling depth up to 8000 metres. Classed classification society DNV GL, the rig with DP3 system and a drilling package provided by NOV will be built to the Norsok standards, while meeting the requirement set by the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway and the Norwegian Maritime Directorate.

Rolls-Royce to Supply DP3 Systems to New Farstad OCV's

Rolls-Royce says it has signed a contract with the shipyard group Vard for its latest DP3 dynamic positioning system to be installed on two new offshore construction vessels. The two vessels will be built at VARD Group, Langsten, Norway and delivered during the first half of 2015. Rolls-Royce will also supply engines, thrusters, propulsion systems, steering gears, and rudders. Rolls-Royce has already delivered many DP2 systems to VARD Group, across a range of ship designs. Rolls-Royce to Supply DP for New Farstad Vessels

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with the shipyard group Vard for its latest DP3 dynamic positioning system to be installed on two new offshore construction vessels. DP systems with classification 3 are the most advanced defined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and this is the first Rolls-Royce contract for DP3. Vessels constructed to DP3 standards are able to operate in very demanding situations where any loss of position has the potential to result in fatal accidents, severe pollution or damage with major economic consequences.
