Port Community System Unveiled at Dubai Seminar

An electronic port community system to make all trading transactions paperless in Algerian ports based on the Dubai Trade portal has been unveiled at a major seminar in Dubai on investment opportunities in the country. SMM 2014 Witnesses Record Turnout

SMM was another full success. With more than 2,100 exhibitors from all around the world, including 150 first-timers, with 50,000 industry visitors and roughly 90,000 square metres of exhibition space, SMM has demonstrated once again what it means to be the leading international trade fair of the maritime industry. After four days brimming with activity, the 26th SMM came to a close today. "We set new records this year," said Bernd Aufderheide, CEO and President of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH. "The excellent turnout not only showed that companies are ready to meet the current challenges with determination, but it also revealed a growing appreciation for collaboration," he added.

Drydocks World to Participate in SMM 2014

Drydocks World, the leading provider of maritime and offshore services to the shipping, oil, gas, and energy sectors, will participate in the prestigious 26th edition of Shipbuilding, Machinery, and Marine Technology (SMM) Exhibition, from September 9-12, 2014. Taking place in the strategic shipping hub of Hamburg, Germany, Drydocks World will attend SMM 2014 with representatives from Maritime World, Dubai Chamber and Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries. In the past several years Drydocks World relations with Germany and the EU have been very strong with 39% of vessels serviced at Drydocks World-Dubai belonging to European customers of which 18% represent clients from Germany.

Drydocks World spearheads the launch of DCMMI

Drydocks World, a service provider in the maritime industry, has announced  the formation of the Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries (DCMMI), a specialized non-profit trade and industry council to promote the interests of the marine and maritime industry in Dubai and the UAE. DCMMI represents a wide cross-section of the UAE’s marine and maritime industry such as Offshore & Engineering, Ship Repair & Maintenance, Shipbuilding & Conversion, and Rig building, Chandlery and Yacht Services. The Council was launched under the auspices of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Drydocks World Reaches Agreement with ABB

Drydocks World, the most productive shipyard in the Middle East will have a dedicated service point for ABB turbochargers. ABB Turbocharging will now have a dedicated service point for ABB turbochargers in the Drydocks World facility in Dubai, a leading international player in ship repair, ship conversion, ship building and offshore fabrication. To mark this cooperation, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the SMM in Hamburg, one of Europe’s leading maritime exhibitions, where Drydocks World will have its largest-ever representation at the show this year. Ramadan Gifts for Creek Dhow Crews

The Mission to Seafarers and The Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry teamed up over the weekend to collect and distribute 1,000 Ramadan gifts for the seafarers who live and work onboard the dhows moored along Dubai Creek. The Mission to Seafarers in Dubai, part of the international organization that cares for seafarers regardless of race or religion in more than 300 ports around the world, honored the rich culture of the UAE’s marine industry with these gifts. UAE Merchant Marine Cadets Graduate

Merchant marine cadets from a United Arab Emirates training ship graduated at a special ceremony held during Seatrade Middle East Maritime 2008, the largest maritime event of its kind in the region, which opened Sunday, 14 December 2008. The deck cadets were the sixth batch of students of the Birla Institute of Technology International Centre for Maritime Studies and Ship Management to pass out after training on the Ras Al Khaimah-berthed training ship Sindbad. Middle East Maritime Talks Emissions

Fuel, emissions and green technology is one of the crucial areas to come under discussion at one of the conferences that will take place alongside Seatrade Middle East Maritime 2008. Like other industries globally, shipping is facing increasingly tough international challenges to achieve emission reductions. Det Norske Veritas, one of Seatrade Middle East Martime's principal sponsors, believe that carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by as much as 30–50% by actions taken on existing vessels now and for new buildings prior to 2030. The region is playing an increasingly important role in world shipping with the now one of the most active international maritime centres in the world.
