UAE Marine Environment Protection Association launched in Dubai

The Director General of HELMEPA, Dimitris C. Mitsatsos and the Chairman of Dubai Council for Marine & Maritime Industries (DCMMI), Mr. Khamis Juma Buamim, signed the Inaugural Declaration to the formation of UAEMEPA, the United Arab Emirates Marine Environment Protection Association. The signing ceremony took place at the beginning of the 9th Offshore Arabia Conference at Dubai in the presence of the Secretary General of IMO, Mr. Kitack Lim, UAE high standing functionaries and representatives of organizations and companies from within world shipping. The new MEPA is the 7th consecutive association, to the creation of which HELMEPA contributed, following relevant request of the interested parties. Mr.

Dubai Partners with WOC on Ocean Sustainable Dwevelopment

The Dubai Council on Marine and Maritime Industries (DCMMI) and the World Ocean Council (WOC) have agreed to collaborate on ocean sustainable development and corporate ocean responsibility. The WOC is increasingly working with and through “maritime clusters” to advance these goals. “The World Ocean Council is a unique global business leadership organization committed to advancing ocean sustainable development, stewardship and science,” DCMMI Chairman, Khamis Juma Buamim, stated. “We look forward to working with DCMMI to better engage leadership companies from Dubai and the UAE,” WOC CEO, Paul Holthus, added.

GAC’s Meena Wins IMC Golden Shield Award

The International Maritime Club presented Meena Mathews, GAC’s Regional P&I Manager for the Middle East, with its Excellence in Marine Claims Management accolade at the IMC Excellence Awards ceremony at the Ocean Blue in Sharjah, UAE, this week. Mathews was nominated by the Club’s committee of industry specialists for her work in protection and indemnity and insurance over the last year. She received her award from The Dubai Council for Marine & Maritime Industries (DCMMI) Chairman, H.E Khamis Juma Buamim. “Within GAC, we have long known what a valuable colleague and consumate professional Meena is. Her professionalism and performance is a credit to our organisation,” says GAC Group Vice President – Middle East, Lars Bergström.

UAE Shipping Delegation to Meet with Greek Counterparts

A delegation of Middle East maritime heavyweights including H.E. Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman & group CEO Drydocks World and Maritime World and Rashid Mohammed Al Habsi, the chief executive of Tasneef, will attend the ‘Maritime Transportation of Energy and Mediterranean Ultra Deep Water Exploration’ event in Athens. On the sidelines of the event, the UAE delegation will meet with various industrial groups from Greece including those specialized in shipbuilding, repair and maintenance; maritime transport; ship owners and renewable innovations in ship design industry to explore avenues for mutual growth of the UAE and Greek shipping sectors, says a press release from the company.

Drydocks World to Participate in SMM 2014

Drydocks World, the leading provider of maritime and offshore services to the shipping, oil, gas, and energy sectors, will participate in the prestigious 26th edition of Shipbuilding, Machinery, and Marine Technology (SMM) Exhibition, from September 9-12, 2014. Taking place in the strategic shipping hub of Hamburg, Germany, Drydocks World will attend SMM 2014 with representatives from Maritime World, Dubai Chamber and Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries. In the past several years Drydocks World relations with Germany and the EU have been very strong with 39% of vessels serviced at Drydocks World-Dubai belonging to European customers of which 18% represent clients from Germany.

Maritime Industry Council Established in Dubai

Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries, the umbrella industry body representing the marine and relevant industry, had its first introductory member’s meeting. The meeting sought to introduce the members, lay the broad framework for future operations, brainstorming on pressing industry issues and strengthen the foundation for meaningful networking among industry partners. Drydocks World spearheads the launch of DCMMI

Drydocks World, a service provider in the maritime industry, has announced  the formation of the Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries (DCMMI), a specialized non-profit trade and industry council to promote the interests of the marine and maritime industry in Dubai and the UAE. DCMMI represents a wide cross-section of the UAE’s marine and maritime industry such as Offshore & Engineering, Ship Repair & Maintenance, Shipbuilding & Conversion, and Rig building, Chandlery and Yacht Services. The Council was launched under the auspices of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
