Van Oord Wins Dubai Project

Van Oord has been awarded the contract for Dubai Harbour marine works, a prestigious mega project in Dubai. The project, which Van Oord carries out for Projects Link Contracting Co LLC, is the next step in achieving ā€˜Dubai Tourism Vision 2020ā€™, Dubaiā€™s strategy to attract 20 million visitors per year by 2020. A strategy to which Van Oord has contributed since 2001 by building amongst others Palm Jumeirah, The World  and many other artificial islands. Dubai Harbour is set to span 185 hectares, and will include berths for 1,400 boats and a cruise terminal. Execution will take place from September 2017 to May 2019. "Our responsibilities will include dredging the 12-kilometre navigation channel, reclaiming land and executing vibro compaction.

Dubai Eyes 1 Million Cruise Tourists

Dubai plans to build a marina for luxury yachts in response to high demand as the emirate is targeting one million cruise passengers per year by 2020, said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation. The increase will mostly come from beefing up infrastructure at the regionā€™s largest cruise terminal, Mina Rashid, which will also include building a marina for luxury yachts. The government is investing heavily to transform its most popular port, Mina Rashid, into a world-class cruise destination. The emirate saw half a million passengers in the 2015-2016 season, a 33% increase over the previous season. The number of cruise ships also rose from 109 to 134.

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, has announced that the Cruise Ship Emergency Response Task Force, convened in September, 2011, to address the challenges presented by the introduction of ever larger cruise ships to the UAE waters, hosted the first cruise sector mass casualty table top exercise and drill last week. Dubai Maritime City Authority adopts best practices to increase safety and security of cruise ships. New measures implemented in collaboration with Dubai Tourism & Commerce Marketing. Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the maritime government entity charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising the maritime sector in Dubai, has announced the establishment of a cruise ship task force in line with its continued efforts to ensure the safety of cruise ships arriving in Dubai and to reinforce Dubaiā€™s preparedness to deal with potential maritime accidents.
