IJmuiden Preps for No-deal Brexit

To keep traffic flowing around the ferry terminal in IJmuiden Seaport, Netherlands, in the event of a no-deal Brexit, preparations are underway for a temporary lorry parking location.According to a press release from the Port of Amsterdam Authority, a plan is also being drawn up to ensure that traffic flows smoothly. Boskalis Bags Netherlands Projects of EUR 200 mi

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has over the last couple of weeks acquired a number of medium sized and various smaller projects in the Netherlands with a combined contract value of more than EUR 200 million. Today, Boskalis was awarded the project for the expansion and doubling of the N62 road (Tractaatweg) in the province Zeeland. Preparations are due to start in spring 2017 and the project will be completed in the spring of 2019. The project carries a contract value of approximately EUR 30 million. Also today, the Dutch Directorate General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) announced that it intends to award the contract for the canal expansion Twentekanalen phase 2 to the combination Boskalis and Van den Herik.

Van Oord to Reinforce Houtrib Dike

Van Oord announces that the Dutch Directorate General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) intends to award the contract for the reinforcement of the Houtrib dike to Van Oord and its partner Boskalis. The contract carries a value of EUR 90 million of which Van Oord’s share amounts to EUR 45 million. The project entails the reinforcement of the Houtrib dike on both sides with sand and rock over a distance of 25 kilometers. The activities will be carried out in the period 2017-2020. The dike reinforcement project is part of the Dutch Flood Protection Program, an alliance of Rijkswaterstaat and all district water boards aimed at reinforcing primary dikes in a more innovative and robust manner.

Boskalis Secures Dike Reinforcement Project

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. announced that the Noorderzijlvest district water board intends to award the contract for the Eemshaven-Delfzijl dike reinforcement project to a consortium consisting of Boskalis & KWS Infra. The contract carries a value of more than €60 million, of which Boskalis' share is more than €40 million. The project involves raising and widening the Wadden Sea dike between Eemshaven and Delfzijl over a distance of 12 kilometers, as well as making the dike earthquake-proof. Largest FPT Lock Gates Installed in the Netherlands

New fiber reinforced polymer lock gates, reportedly the world’s largest, were installed in the new Lock III in the Wilhelmina canal in Tilburg, the Netherlands on January 9. On behalf of Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management), Royal HaskoningDHV has deployed its expertise in the field of fiber reinforced polymers for the design principles, the design review and quality control. Never before have FRP lock gates of these dimensions (6.2 x 12.5 meters) been installed. The mitred gates can control a water level difference of no less than 7.9 meters.

BMT and Charta Software Form Partnership

BMT Charta Partnership

BMT ARGOSS (BMT) and Charta Software have announced a partnership to develop a multifunctional software package named METRIS, (Modelsysteem voor Evaluatie Tijpoortregeling en RIsico’S bodemberoering), meaning ‘Model system to evaluate tidal admission policy and risk of seabed touchdown’, for the Dutch Directorate-General. The partnership aims to meet clientele needs by combining BMT’s experience in heading analysis, vessel response behavior, weather forecasting and shallow water metocean conditions, with Charta’s ability to deliver high quality software.
