Japanese ship leasing company Shoei Kisen Kaisha, the owner of car carrier Fremantle Highway, which caught fire off the Dutch coast last week, said on Friday it will investigate the cause of the incident in cooperation with relevant parties.The blaze broke out on July 26, killing one crew member and injured seven who jumped overboard to escape the flames. Swiss multinational equipment manufacturer Liebherr Group said that its cranes erected the prototype of what is currently the most powerful offshore wind turbine in the world in the Dutch port of Rotterdam.The gondola of the wind turbine, which measures an overall 207 meters in height, has a net weight of 675 tonnes. Marine LNG Zeebrugge, a joint venture of the Gas4Sea partners - ENGIE, Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK - has signed an agreement with the Norwegian multinational energy group Equinor.Under the agreement, Marine LNG Zeebrugge will supply liquefied natural gas as a marine fuel to Equinor’s four crude shuttle tankers in the Dutch port of Rotterdam.The four planned dual fuel vessels are to come into service in early 2020; they will be operated by Equinor in Northern European seas.Marine LNG Zeebrugge will supply LNG using the LNG bunkering vessel ENGIE Zeebrugge which started operations in 2017. A new trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Ecodelta, powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG),  was christened last Friday (January 11) in the Dutch port of Rotterdam.The dredging vessel, built at the Dutch yard Barkmeijer for shipping company Van der Kamp, is a key component of the new contract entered into by Bagger & Aannemingsmaatschappij Van der Kamp and the Port of Rotterdam Authority.In 2015, the project Ecodelta was initiated by Van der Kamp, a Zwolle-based dredging company and Conoship International.This one of a kind dredger has two main objectives: recover valuable material from the seabed and create a greater depth of water.

The circular plastics hub in the Port of Amsterdam is expanding through the construction of a new plastics recycling plant. Plastic Recycling Amsterdam (PRA), a collaboration between Umincorp and Milieu Service Nederland, commenced construction of a plant this week.The Dutch port said that this plant, which can be expanded on a modular basis, will initially process 17,000 tonnes of plastics annually and prepare them to be reused.In the plant, the collected plastics are first washed, shredded and then routed through a magnetic bath. Using Magnetic Density Separation (MDS) technology, the plastics can be separated with a purity of 99% because different plastics have different weights. This technology was originally developed at Delft University of Technology.

Netherlands-based  global logistics company Samskip is restructuring the multi-purpose cargo and reefer services connecting North Sea and Baltic ports to Norway operated by subsidiary Nor Lines.A press release from the company stated: "The overhaul, effective from October 1st, 2018, will meet rising demand for reefer and project cargo services southbound and increase capacity for conventional and project cargoes northbound along the Norwegian coast and beyond to Murmansk. Two existing multi-purpose service loops increase to three."In the most obvious change, capacity on the three-ship Nor Lines service between Baltic ports and Norway will be expanded to four vessels, each with reefer/palletized and deck space, and 50mt heavy lift crane capacity.

Infrastructure funds managed by Macquarie and Goldman Sachs have agreed to buy Dutch port terminals operator HES International from owners Riverstone and The Carlyle Group, they said on Tuesday. Terms were not disclosed. Reuters reported in February that Macquarie and Goldman funds were poised to buy HES for around 2 billion euros ($2.45 billion). Nauticor has extended its liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply network for ships within the North Sea region and has now begun delivering to maritime customers in the Port of Rotterdam. The Dutch port is the latest location added to the firm’s LNG distribution network, adding to a growing portfolio of one of the leading suppliers of LNG as fuel for ships. The premier bunker operation by Nauticor in the Port of Rotterdam saw the containership Wes Amelie, owned by Wessels Reederei based in Haren/Ems, receive the chilled fuel.
