DNV Awards Type Approval for 3D Printing Feedstock

Voestalpine Böhler Welding Germany GmbH has become the first manufacturer worldwide to be awarded a Type Approval certificate from classification society DNV, for their solid wire 3Dprint AM 70/I1 feedstock. The Type Approval has been awarded based on DNV’s new class programme, DNV-CP-291 “Additive Manufacturing Feedstock”.The Type Approval certificate was presented to voestalpine Böhler Welding Germany GmbH during the DVS Congress held in Essen, Germany, and is the first of its kind to be issued by a classification society.

MARIN, Cruden, Tree C Technology Forge Small Ship Simulator

Severe vibrations and shocks of up to 9G over an average of 1000 hours per year. That’s what instructors of fast small ships such as the Fast Raiding, Interception and Special Forces Crafts (FRISC) currently have to endure. But that will soon become a thing of the past. In two years’ time operators of these types of craft will be trained using a Fast Small Ship Simulator (FSSS). That’s just one of the many advantages that will accrue when the FSSS prototype becomes available as a result of the project started today.

European VIPs Visit USS George H.W. Bush

U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa hosted 23 distinguished visitors from multiple European countries aboard aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) as a part of the Navy's Distinguished Visitor (DV) Embark program, Oct. 30. The DV program is a unique experience that allows civilian and military guests board the ship while underway and experience the Navy's mission and witness carrier operations firsthand. The DVs included Lithuanian Minister of National Defense, Juozas Olekas; Latvian Minister of Defense, Raimonds Vejonis; Polish Undersecretary of State, Maciej Jankowski; Estonian Defense Forces Commander, Commander, Estonian Defense Forces, Maj. Gen. Riho Terras; and Spanish Fleet Commander in Chief, Adm. Santiago Bolibar.

STATS Group Complete Dutch Sector North Sea Isolation Project

Tecno Plug isolates gas export pipeline.

Pipeline engineering specialist, STATS Group, has completed an isolation project on a 16” subsea pipeline in the Dutch sector of the North Sea on behalf of Wintershall Noordzee BV. The isolation enabled the client to disconnect a flexible gas export pipeline so it could be replaced with a new rigid gas export pipeline. STATS deployed its Tecno Plug  tool for the isolation which prevented a costly depressurisation of the main trunk line, and reduced environmental impact, costs and production losses.

CSC/DVS Agreement with Intelsat

Intelsat, Ltd., provider of fixed satellite services, announced the signing of a multi-year distribution agreement with Corporate Satellite Communications (CSC/DVS) for Intelsat’s Network Broadband Global Maritime service. CSC/DVS’s customers will benefit from the Intelsat Network Broadband Global Maritime service’s always-on broadband connection and automatic beam switching technology, offered for a flat monthly fee. Intelsat's Network Broadband Global Maritime service, part of Intelsat’s GlobalConnex (GXS) portfolio of services, utilizes C-band capacity provided via three ocean-region satellites: Intelsat 602 at 178ºE, Intelsat 707 at 307ºE and Intelsat 906 at 64ºE.

Underwater Technology Convention Held in Hamburg

"Joining and Cutting" are key procedures for the maintenance of technical underwater installations. They are indispensable for harbor construction, hydraulic engineering and flood defense, ship operation as well as offshore installations and pipelines. More than 80 experts attended the two-day Underwater Technology Convention Joining and Cutting in . On the agenda were twelve presentations dealing with current joining and cutting procedures. Possible application procedures and limits as well as quality assurance and health and safety requirements during underwater operations were discussed by the participants. Dr Peter Szelagowski, a German engineering consultant for underwater technology, explained the state of the art technology in comparison to international developments.
