Maersk Tankers Acquires Seven AET Vessels

Product tanker operator Maersk Tankers has now completed its acquisition of seven chemical tanker ships, which the company wil take over from AET Tanker Holdings, a Malaysian-owned global shipping company specializing in the ocean transport of crude oil and refined products.Built in Korea in 2009 and 2010, the second-hand Handy vessels are of shallow drafted design with a good cargo intake and an increased chemical/IMO capability.“In line with our strategic goal of developing a dynamic fleet and our belief in the tanker market, this acquisition will enhance our position in the market,” says Soren C. Mostraum Delivered to Utkilen

Bergen-headquartered shipping company Utkilen said it has taken delivery of Mostraum, the LNG-ready 10,500 DWT chemical tanker.The vessel is stainless steel tanker and is a very environmentally friendly design with focus on low fuel consumption, reduced NOx emissions and to prepare her for possible future upgrades of fuel with the installed LNG ready engine, claimed a press release.Shore power is installed with a capacity enough to handle loading and unloading. Major Oil Spill in Rotterdam

The Odfjell tanker Bow Jubail struck a jetty at the Port of Rotterdam, rupturing her hull and releasing an estimated 220 tons of bunker fuel into the water. No injuries were reported, and she berthed without further incident. According to a Reuters report, a clean-up operation was underway after an oil freighter punctured its hull while mooring, releasing a “considerable” amount of heavy fuel oil. Odfjell, the owner of the freighter Bow Jubail, said in a statement the ship had lost 220 tons of heavy fuel oil in the incident, which took place Saturday afternoon. Odfjell press release said that it caused a release of about 217 tons of heavy fuel oil (HFO) from the fuel tank inside.

FSL Trust Sells Vessel to Trim Debt

FSL Trust Management, as trusteemanager of First Ship Lease Trust (FSL Trust), announces that the Trust has sold its chemical tanker, FSL Tokyo, for a cash consideration of US$13.8 million. FSL Tokyo is a 2006, Japanese-built, 20,938 DWT chemical tanker that has been deployed in the spot market. The net proceeds from this Disposal will be applied in full to the outstanding loan facility in 1Q2018. FSL Trust will record a related impairment charge of approximately US$9.0 million in 4Q2017. Roger Woods, Chief Executive Officer of FSLTM commented: "The sale of the vessel was undertaken to further reduce the debt due under the Syndicated Loan facility.

Permanent On-site Collision Damage Repair in Greece

In July Hydrex mobilized a team of diver/technicians to Syros, Greece, for a complex repair operation on a 118-meter, 8550 DWT chemical tanker. The vessel had suffered large cracks in her hull plating as the result of a collision. She was not allowed to sail any further. Hydrex proposed a permanent on-site repair using an open top cofferdam. This would enable the fully laden ship to continue her journey. The tanker was berthed in Egypt when another vessel struck her portside hull. This caused a large hole, severe cracks and dented plating.

A Call for Vessel Refuge Guidelines

Shipowners, Salvors and Insurers – through their respective trade associations – have jointly called for the prompt and proper implementation of international measures to provide a Place of Refuge for stricken vessels, following a series of incidents where casualty vessels have been delayed in accessing a safe harbor. The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) said that it has noted “with dismay” the refusal by some coastal States to make places of refuge available, thereby risking lives and the environment even after the high profile cases of the Stolt Valor and the MSC Flaminia in 2012.

Ardmore Orders Two 37,000 DWT Chemical Tanker Newbuilds

Ardmore Shipping Corporation today announced that it has contracted Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd, South Korea (HMD) for the construction of two 37,000 Dwt IMO 2 eco-design chemical tankers ordered from for approximately $32.7 million each with options for further equipment upgrades. As part of the contracts, Ardmore has also negotiated fixed price options for additional vessels. Odfjell Buys Chemical Tankship

Odfjell buys long-term chartered vessel 'MT Bow Engineer', a 30,086 dwt chemical tanker. Odfjell, a leading company in the global market for transportation and storage of bulk liquid chemicals, acids, edible oils and other special products, has entered into a contract for the purchase of the MT Bow Engineer, a 30,086 DWT chemical tanker (IMO II/III) with 28 stainless steel cargo tanks, built in 2006 at Kitanihon Shipbuilding CO LTD in Japan. Bow Engineer has been on time charter for Odfjell from yard delivery in 2006.

American Phoenix

BAE Systems joined with Mid Ocean Tanker Company (MOTC), Mid Ocean Marine and Alterna Captial Partners earlier this year to commission the American Phoenix, a U.S. Flag/Jones Act-qualified product-chemical tanker. Measuring 616 x 105 ft. with a laden draft of 36 ft. and a cargo capacity of 49,000 dwt, American Phoenix is the largest vessel ever built and launched in the State of Alabama. BAE Systems was contracted to complete construction of the American Phoenix and prepare it for use. The vessel is owned by MOTC, a joint venture between Mid Ocean Marine and private equity firm Alterna Capital Partners. The vessel will conduct trade initially in the Gulf of Mexico.

Two Engines, One Propeller

A recently launched patrol vessel, Zhong Guo Yu Zheng, for the Chinese Fisheries Department employs the proven technology of two engines turning into a gear with a single output to a single propeller. The Fisheries Administration Ship is 57.33-meters overall with a 8.2-meter beam and a depth of 4.2 meters. Design draft is 3.2 meters. A pair of Cummins QSK60 main engines, each delivering 2000 HP at 1800 RPM,  provides propulsion power for the 500 DWT-vessel. The two engines turn in to a massive marine gear from Hangzhou Advance Masson Marine Transmission Ltd.

Odfjell Buys New Vessel

Odfjell entered into a contract for the purchase of MT Holly Galaxy, a 19,975 dwt chemical tanker (IMO II/III) with 22 stainless steel cargo tanks, built in 2006 at Fukuoka Shipbuilding in Japan. The vessel will be delivered in December 2011 and shall be traded regionally in South America. We are in the process of achieving long term financing of the vessel. - Holly Galaxy will be vessel number 99 in the Odfjell controlled fleet of sophisticated chemical tanker vessels, says Jan A. Dongfang Shipbuiliding Shares to Trade

According to a report on www.rttnews.com, Dongfang Shipbuilding Company Limited intends to seek admission of its shares to trading on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange. Dealings are expected to commence on AIM on 18 August 2011. Dongfang diversified into shipping, owning and operating six 9,000 dwt chemical tankers and one 9,200 dwt chemical tanker, out of Singapore and Hong Kong. The Group currently has about 530 full time employees across the two businesses. The Group has recently moved into the production of 3,200 DWT chemical stainless steel vessels. The shipbuilding order book as at June 30, 2011, according to the report on RTT News, amounted to around $89m. The contracted delivery dates of new vessels and those under construction are between August 2011 and January 2014.

INTERTANKO Calls for Prosecution of Bow Saga Pirates

INTERTANKO calls for the prosecution of the Somali pirates whose attack on the Norwegian 40,085 dwt chemical tanker Bow Saga in the Gulf of Aden Internationally Recognised Transit Corridor was frustrated by the Spanish frigate Victoria, where the pirates are now being detained. INTERTANKO hopes that these men will not be released due to the absence of any country willing to detain them and try them in court. We appeal to the Seizing State (Spain) or the Flag State (Norway) to co-operate to the fullest possible extent in repression of piracy' as per Art 100 of UNCLOS, and therefore to prosecute or extradite – either to prosecute the pirates on the basis of customary international law, or to transfer the prosecution to another state.

Odfjell Orders Ships

Odfjell signed an agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME) to build one fully IMO II 75,000 dwt chemical tanker with 31 coated tanks for delivery first half 2013 at a total price of about $65m. On the same date our J/V partners National Chemical Carriers of Saudi Arabia (NCC) has ordered a sister vessel with expected delivery late 2013. The ships will be commercially operated by our J/V NCC Odfjell Chemical Tankers JLT (NOCT), based in . Both Odfjell and NCC have options for one more vessel each.

Odfjell JV Contracts New Chem Tanker

Odfjell's 49% owned joint venture company Odfjell Dong Zhan Shipping (Shanghai) Co. Ltd, has signed a contract for the building of a 8 200 dwt chemical tanker. The ship is a fully coated IMO II type carrier that will be built in China by Zhoushan Penglai Shipbuilding and Repairing Co. The construction of the ship has already started, and delivery is scheduled for late November 2008. Odfjell will be directly involved in the building process and inspection at the building site. The ship will join Bao Hai Tun (3 845 dwt/ built 2006)and service the domestic market in China.

Turkish Shipyards Boost for MarineLine

Following Advanced Polymer Coatings’ announcement earlier in the year of its first two chemical tanker coatings contracts won in Turkey, the anticorrosion specialist has just announced a number of further new business gains and opportunities in this developing shipbuilding country. It has also reported gains in other markets. APC’s unique polymer-based tank protection system MarineLine has now been specified for the cargo tanks of 10 more ships to be constructed or converted in Turkey. These range in size from two 1,450 dwt chemical tankers for Holland’s Unifleet NV, to be constructed by the RMK Marine shipyard, to two 29,990 dwt chemical tankers from UM Shipyard for Fairfield Chemical Tankers of the USA.
