Malaysia's Petronas has delivered the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) import cargoes to Myanmar, the company said on Thursday, marking a new consumer for the super-chilled fuel.The state-owned company's subsidiary Petronas LNG delivered two LNG cargoes to Yangon, Myanmar, in May and June as part of a sales and purchase agreement it had signed with joint-venture company CNTIC VPower earlier this year, Petronas said.As part of the deal, the cargoes were sold on a free-on-board (FOB) basis from the Petronas LNG complex at Bintulu…

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with  Malaysia-based supply and installation company Trac-Wheels (M) Sdn Bhd, for an order of ten units of Kalmar TL2 terminal tractor. The order was booked into Cargotec's 2017 fourth quarter order intake and it is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2018. The Kalmar TL2 terminal tractor is specifically built for Asia-Pacific and was launched to the market in November. Trac-Wheels will lease the new machines to its Miri Port and Tanjung Manis Port terminals in East Malaysia, further enhancing their capabilities of integrated cargo handling solutions. Indonesia will resume some shipments of coal to the Philippines, a government official said on Sunday, after a months-long halt due to concerns about piracy in seas between the two archipelagos. Indonesia earlier this year slapped a moratorium on coal shipments to its neighbour after a string of hijackings by militants based in the southern Philippines, in which several Indonesian sailors were taken hostage. Only ships with a capacity of over 500 tonnes will be allowed to resume sailing while smaller vessels and tugboats are still banned. "For safety and security reasons ... all ships must sail in the recommended corridors and avoid conflict areas or waters (around) the southern Philippines and east Malaysia," Transportation Ministry official Tonny Budiono said.

Honda’s division in Malaysia has opened East Malaysia Logistics Hub in Kota Kinabalu which will be operated and managed by logistics and shipping firm Giga Shipping. Pre-delivery inspection (PDI) management undertaken by Giga Shipping will include standard key management system, washing bays for vehicles to be cleaned before delivery to dealers, security system to prevent theft, parking lot management system, stock monitoring, a kaizen system to ensure that vehicles remain in good condition while in storage, and a thorough inspection facility. Giga Shipping currently operates Giga Car Terminal, which provides transit storage and handling facilities for most of Malaysia’s import and export auto marques within Westports. The terminal handled about 130,000 cars in 2014.

Pirates attacked A Malaysian-registered oil tanker off the coast of West Kalimantan (Indonesia) and robbed its crew of valuables on Thursday night. Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) district operations director Commander Shahref Steve Mac Queen Abdullah said the tanker, MT Dongfang, was travelling from Port Dickson to Labuan when the incident happened around 8.30pm in Indonesian waters. "The ship's 17 member crews were not harmed during the incident," said Kuching district operations director Commander Steve MacQueen Abdullah. “The MMEA was informed by the International Maritime Bureau about the robbery, which occurred about 52 nautical miles north of Pulau Uwi in Indonesia. "The robbers, numbering about 25, were armed with pistols.

BMT subsidiaries in the Asia-Pacific region have been awarded a contract to provide design expertise for an advanced bulk-material handling system for the emerging port of Samalaju in East Malaysia. Samalaju Port is being developed by Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd as part of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy at an investment of approximately $550 million. Companies involved in silicon, manganese, aluminium, ferroalloy, phosphate and coke processing have been drawn to the area to benefit from the cheap energy available.

Automotive shipping and logistics provider Giga Maritime Group (GMG) has announced plans to invest in new IT infrastructure, the expansion and replacement of fleets, assets and vehicles as well as developing new car terminals, in an effort to hone the group's competitive edge and meet the demands of Malaysia's growing automotive industry. Datuk Kumar Prabakaran, the managing director of GMG companies Giga Shipping Sdn Bhd and Nexus Mega Carriers Sdn Bhd, said these investments are vital in order for the group to meet growth demands following the National Automotive Policy (NAP) announcement earlier this year. Malaysia aims to increase its total production of 1.25 million vehicles and boost annual exports to 250,000 units by the year 2020.

Evergreen Line announced it will partner with Mariana Express in launching a joint South China- East Malaysia (SEM) Service. The new initiative will give a boost to the service offered to shippers on this important sector of the Intra-Asian trade, the liner company said. The SEM service will employ two ships with around 1,000 TEU capacity each. Sailings will be weekly and follow the port rotation: Shekou - Hong Kong - Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia) - Muara (Brunei) - Bintulu (Malaysia) - Shekou. The first sailing is planned to depart from Shekou on September 10. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve network connections in this region, Evergreen Line will also take space on Interasia Lines' Singapore - Yangon (Burma) - Malaysia (SYM) service based on a slot swap arrangement.

T.D. Williamson (TDW) announced that it recently completed a comprehensive pipeline services program for a major offshore operator to assist with efforts to relieve increasing contact stress between a gas export riser and platform jacket offshore East Malaysia. Due to changes in seabed conditions, the platform jacket had moved, producing stress on the gas export riser attached to the platform jacket. The stress was most acute at the contact point between the bracings - or riser clamps - that anchor the riser to the platform structure.

Evergreen Line will launch its new CPM service linking South China, Philippines and East Malaysia in mid-April 2013. In addition to providing regional transportation links for shippers in three countries, the new loop will connect to Evergreen's global service network via Hong Kong. Two ships of 1,700 TEU will be deployed on the CPM service. The first sailing is planned from Shekou on April 15, 2013. The port rotation of the weekly service will be: Shekou, Hong Kong, Manila, Kota Kinabalu, Bintulu and Shekou. Regional economic growth forecasts support the view that Evergreen's expansion of its service network with the launch of the CPM is advisable.

East Malaysia’s Shin Yang Shipyard has begun construction of three new support vessels for Mainport. Located in Miri, Sarawak the Shin Yang Shipyard has developed an impressive record in the fabrication of sophisticated off shore vessels such as the anchor-handling tug Danem 19. Two of the new support vessels, the Mainport Cedar and Mainport Pine, will be 54.6 by 13.8-meter supply, seismic support vessels. The third, the Mainport Kells, will be somewhat smaller at 37 by 8.7-meter, and will also carry the designation supply, seismic support vessel.

International oil service group Aker Solutions is preparing for major growth by investing NOK 500 million (USD 87 million) in its subsea business. This investment is set to double the capacity of its manufacturing plants in Tranby, Norway, and Port Klang, Malaysia. In addition, a new service base will also be established in Malaysia. Primarina Trading Pte Ltd of Singapore reported that one of the company's tugs, Marina 26, was taken by pirates on March 22 off Tioman Island Malaysia. The crew was later left adrift and rescued. The crew reports that the tug had been repainted to green. Primarina Trading is looking for any assistance in locating the tug and its tow which was empty at the time. After taking the Marine 26 tug, the pirates traveled east with the crew held hostage. Then the pirates left the crew on a life raft floating in mid sea.

A recent delivery from the yard of Eastern Marine Shipbuilding in Sibu, East Malaysia is a further indication of the growing technical sophistication of the Sarawak yards. The 60 by 16-meter Offshore Surveyor is designed by Wartsila Ship Design of Singapore. To do her survey work the Malaysian-registered vessel is fitted with 2.4-meter-square moon pool as well as a deck crane from Marine Equipment of Singapore. The crane has a telescoping boom that can lift up to five tons when extended eight meters. The same supplier also provided the anchor and mooring winch as well as a six-ton capstan.

The Malaysian firm Ajang Shipping recently took delivery of a versatile maintenance workboat from the Shin Yang Shipyard in Miri, Sarawak, East Malaysia. The 246 by 65.5 ft Ajang Haidah has a moulded depth of 31.3 ft with a 16.5 ft design draft. Designed by Conan Wu & Associates of Singapore the new vessel is powered by a pair of 16-cylinder Cummins KTA50-M2 main engines each developing 1800 BHP at 1900 RPM. The engines turn fixed pitch four-blade 2100 by 1512 m/m propellers through Reintjes WAF664 gears with ratios of 5.044:1. This gives the vessel a speed of eleven knots.

A Dutch owner has taken delivery of the Venture G, the second in a pair of sisterships from the Sealink Shipyard in Miri, Sarawak, East Malaysia. Like the first vessel, the Mare Verde, the second vessel, the Venture G is 53.8 by 13.8-meters with a molded depth of 4.5 meters. Designed by Conan Wu and Associates of Singapore the vessel has an engine room mounted well aft with large tankage capacity forward. The bunker tankage includes 913 cubic meters of IFO 380, 220 cubic meters of MDO and 208 cubic meters of fresh water.

Sarawak Slipways of Miri, Sarawak East Malaysia has delivered the 1179 gross tonne FPSO support vessel OMS Terra Nova. A pair of mains engines each generating 1838 Kw (2518 hp) at 750 RPM power the Niigata Z-Drives on the ABS-classed dynamic positioning vessel. In the focsle area a 700 hp Cummins KTA19-M4 engine powers a retractable HRP azimuthing bow thruster as an essential component of the vessel's dynamic positioning system. For electrical requirements, the 50 by 13.8-meter vessel has a pair of Cummins QSM11-powered 250 kW generator sets. Aft of the main house a double drum MacGregor Plimsoll double drum anchor handling winch is completely enclosed. A closed circuit television system allows the wheelhouse to monitor action around the winch.

As the Sealink Maju 26 enters service a sister-ship the Sealink Maju 25 is undergoing a final fitting out at the Sealink yard in Miri, Sarawak East Malaysia. There is strong demand for this class of Anchor Handling Tug (AHT) in the and on other fields worldwide. Both vessels are fitted with double drum waterfall winches with 150-ton line pull. The stern roller is SWL 120 ton and there are also two ten-ton tugger winches and a single five-ton capstan.? The aft deck has 140 cubic meters of open cargo space with a load capability of five tons per square meter.

After delivery to Singaporean owner, Briggs Singapore Pte. Ltd., the 1700 hp tug Forth Hunter will be be put to work in Ukraine. Powered by a pair of Cummins KTA38-M2 engines, each delivering 1350 hp at 1900 RPM (Heavy Duty Rating) to nozzled propellers, the tug underwent bollard test prior to delivery that recorded pulls up to 35-tonnes. Smedvig Asia has exercised its option to purchase Keppel Hitachi Zosen’s (KHZ) interest in the semi-submersible tender rig, West Alliance, for US$61.5 million on November 2, 2001. In mid August this year, Smedvig Asia had announced its intention to purchase KHZ’s stake in the rig once the vessel commences operations. With the exercise of its option, Smedvig Asia now owns 100 percent of West Alliance. West Alliance, now deployed in East Malaysia under a contract with Esso Malaysia, was successfully built and delivered by Keppel Shipyard, a member of the Keppel Group, in October 2001.
