Shell to Acquire PANOLIN's ECL Business

Supermajor Shell anounced its subsidiaries in Switzerland, the UK, US and Sweden have entered into agreements to acquire the environmentally considerate lubricants (ECLs) business of the PANOLIN Group.The transaction includes the PANOLIN brand, ECL product formulations, intellectual property, technical expertise and technology, international customer base and portfolio of products – for hydraulics, gears, universal tractor transmission oils, biodegradable engine oils (HDEO), turbine oils…

European Cargo Logistics, DSV Launch Moravia Shuttle

European Cargo Logistics (ECL), an associated company of Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft mbH (LHG), and DSV Road AB, a part of DSV – Global Transport and Logistics, are now reaching another spot on the map, Zajeci in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. This is now the most easterly destination in the ECL network. For DSV this is not a new destination, but it is a way to handle transports to eastern Europe in a more environmentally friendly way. “We do always look at alternatives for reducing the environmental impact, and this intermodal solution will also help in the current market situation with high demand for transports and limited capacity in some areas due to lack of drivers”, says Christian Gerdtsson, Deputy MD for DSV Road AB.

Shipping Partnerships Create Economic Opportunity in Everett

Every month Eastern Car Liner (ECL) loads aerospace containers for transport back to Japan to be reloaded with new airplane parts. Typically, this is the only cargo loaded on this vessel at the Port of Everett – until recently. This weekend, for the second time, Everett-based log supplier, Forest Marketing Enterprises, Inc. (FORMARK) will be delivering nearly 3.3 million board feet of logs to the Port of Everett to be loaded under deck of the ECL chartered ship. This shipment is the second of six total shipments for the year, of what is expected to be a multi-year business partnership. “This is a strategic partnership that will benefit jobs, commerce and natural resources in Everett and Washington State,” said Carl Wollebek, Chief Operating Officer at the Port of Everett.

Samskip Acquires Euro Container Line AS

Samskip has completed the acquisition of Euro Container Lines AS, building on a strategy for growth in the Nordic area to make its largest ever acquisitive move in Norway. The ECL acquisition aims to strengthen Samskip’s position in the Norwegian market by enhancing the speed and frequency of services delivering a second-to-none value proposition for its Norwegian client base. In a significant enhancement for regional fishing industry exporters in particular, the acquisition will deliver a substantially improved Norwegian coastal service under the direct control of Samskip.

Iranian state shipping company IRISL’s new general cargo service makes first call at C. During the first call by its new general cargo service, representatives of state shipping company IRISL – Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines – joined staff of the Peter W. Lampke shipping agency and Terminal C. Steinweg in welcoming the Captain and crew of the SEVGI on May 17. The new general cargo service will call monthly at Hamburg as the only port in Germany, transporting conventional general cargo in addition to containers. The multipurpose vessels deployed are equipped with shipboard cranes.

Iran Shipping Lines resumes N Europe Service

With the call by the AZARGOUN in Hamburg on 17 March 2016, IRISL – Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines – is reopening its regular liner service “European Container Line” (ECL) between Northern Europe and ports in the Persian Gulf following its closure in mid-2010 on account of sanctions. The new service will be operating with 2,500-TEU containerships, calling at Hamburg and Antwerp, along with Genoa, Istanbul, Port Said and Bandar Abbas. The AZARGOUN is 207 metres long and 29.8 metres wide and was built for IRISL at what was then the Aker MTW shipyard in Wismar in 2003. In addition, the SEVGI will be resuming the conventional liner service with multi-purpose tonnage between Northern Europe and the Persian Gulf.

Bureau Veritas Acquires Another NDT Firm

Classification society BV acquire  LVQ-WP, a German group specializing in non-destructive testing (NDT) and industrial inspection services. Founded in 1994, LVQ-WP is headquartered in Muelheim in the Rhein-Ruhr area, which is a strategic industrial cluster in Germany, and provides services to the power, process and manufacturing sectors in Germany and Eastern Europe. LVQ-WP currently has 120 highly qualified employees and its 2012 revenues totaled around EUR9 million. In Europe, non-destructive testing and industrial inspection services represent an attractive market, estimated at EUR850 million with a growth rate of around 8% per year, in which demand is driven by the need to maintain the integrity of ageing infrastructure.

Rickmers-Linie, breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo specialist headquartered in Hamburg, has launched a new service linking North Asia with South America and the US East Coast. Four vessels, each capable of lifting 120-tonne indivisible loads and featuring stern ramps for rolling cargo, will maintain the monthly schedule. • Savannah, Charleston and Philadelphia on the US East Coast. Additional ports can be called on inducement. In Asia, for example, the schedule permits calls in Northern China (Shanghai – Dalian range) and in South Korea.

Eastern Car Liner and Rickmers-Linie Agree on Trade Deal

Eastern Car Liner Ltd., Tokyo, and Rickmers-Linie, the Hamburg based breakbulk, heavylift and project cargo specialist, have concluded a deal concerning the transpacific westbound trade. ECL, which provides a monthly liner service from Japan to the U.S. East Coast, will deliver its multipurpose vessels after the end of each eastbound voyage to Rickmers-Linie, which will then charter the ships for transpacific westbound voyages and redeliver them to Japan. The cooperation will start from January 2006 and is set for a period of two years. The four 11,000dwt vessels, which are involved in this cooperation, come with heavylift gear capable of lifting loads of up to 120 tons. They were built between 1995 and 1998 and are equipped with ro-ro ramps.
