Q&A: Ballast Water Management Market Matures

Since the ballast water management system discussion started nearly two decades ago, a clear concern was the ability to fit new equipment on existing ships, placing a strain on both space and power. Kongstein, Green Shipping Join Force for US Offshore Wind Market

Kongstein, the European service provider focused at offshore engineering and maritime logistics, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with U.S.-based Green Shipping Line to provide a complete offshore wind farm supply solution in the United States.Per the MoU, the solution provided will include consultancy services, a U.S. Jones Act compliant shuttle service as well as development opportunities at several U.S. ports."We are thrilled to be working with Kongstein – they are the best in the business in wind farm logistics and forward, creative thinking for complex issues," said Percy R. Pyne IV, Chairman of Green Shipping Line (GSL). "Together we will create a complete, viable and economic solution for United States-based wind farms.

Statoil: Considerable Johan Castberg spin-offs

Statoil’s proposed impact assessment programme for the Johan Castberg project reveals that the project will be important to Norwegian industry and have strong ripple effects. During our improvement work we have created new opportunities for the Johan Castberg field in the far north. We have changed the concept and found new solutions that allow us to realise the project. But we are still vulnerable to increasing costs and a continued low oil price,” says Margareth Øvrum, executive vice president for Technology, Projects and Drilling in Statoil. The proposed impact assessment programme is an essential part of the preparations before a final development plan for Johan Castberg is submitted in 2017, according to schedule.

Brommeland to Supply KNS VSATs to Kopervik

Brommeland Elektronikk AS, the Norwegian distributor for KNS, was awarded a contract to supply 13 VSAT systems to a large part of the Norwegian shipowner Kopervik Group fleet. The KNS VSAT systems will be supplied through a leasing program, and Kopervik Group is one of several other shipping companies utilizing this program. Cost-wise it enables the company to optimize communication cost and get the possibilities to be online at sea and have the latest technology in the complete fleet at the same time, which again is beneficial in regards to crew-changes, service etc. Integration will take place during the end of 2014. The program consists of KNS A6 VSAT systems fully integrated with the existing mobile phone systems both on vessels and in company offices.
