The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) has initiated a plan to upgrade navigation system hardware on a range of surface vessels and submarines.The supplier OSI Maritime Systems (OSI) said it has signed a deal with RCN to design, build, test, certify and deliver MIL-SPEC navigation system hardware upgrades to replace legacy systems that were originally provided by the company, some dating back to 2001. OSI will also provide spares and training support.The fleetwide upgrade includes 44 surface ship and five submarine systems.

OSI Maritime Systems (OSI) announced the signing of a contract to integrate its flagship software, ECPINS-W Sub, into the U.K. Royal Navy’s T45 Destroyer Integrated Bridge System (IBS). Under the terms of this contract, OSI will provide software engineering activity to fully integrate ECPINS into the existing IBS system architecture. OSI supplies the Royal Navy with its advanced NATO WECDIS STANAG 4564 certified ECPINS-W Sub software across all operational ships, submarines, shore headquarters, and training establishments.

OSI Maritime Systems announced that it has signed a contract to provide in-service-support for its ECPINS-W Sub software - ECPINS is the only ECDIS independently certified against NATO WECDIS STANAG 4564. The software is in service across the Royal Canadian Navy surface and subsurface fleet. Hatteland Display announced it has entered into a Long Term Cooperation Agreement with Offshore Systems, Ltd., of Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Under the terms of this contract, Hatteland Display will supply products from its broad portfolio of type-approved, commercial maritime and military-qualified displays for integration into Offshore Systems' ECPINS Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS, WECDIS) for navigation and situational awareness, and Common Operational Picture (COP) products that focus on the global situational awareness market in C3I applications. OSI Geospatial Inc. announced that its U.S. Systems Operations has signed a contract valued at approximately U.S. $1m with the United States Coast Guard (USCG). Under the terms of the contract, the company will provide a hardware upgrade to the ECPINS Navigation Systems installed on the USCG Buoy Tender Fleet. The work is estimated to be completed in the next three months.

Offshore Systems Ltd. has secured a contract to upgrade the Royal New Zealand Navy’s (RNZN) Project Protector Fleet to ECPINS W vessel-wide. In 2003-2004, Offshore Systems was awarded a contract through a competitive bid process to deploy ECPINS M across the RNZN’s entire fleet, as well as throughout the Navy’s training facilities. A deciding factor in awarding this contract was ECPINS M’s high level of compliance with the North Atlantic Treat Organization (NATO) Warship Electronic Chart Display Information System (WECDIS) standard. “By upgrading to ECPINS W, the RNZN Project Protector Fleet is now fully compliant with the NATO WECDIS STANAG,” says Jim Davison, Director of Sales, Offshore Systems.

Offshore Systems International Ltd. said that its Navigation Systems unit has been selected for a major fleet-wide contract with the Royal Navy.
