Sri Lanks Invest $190mln on ECT Terminal
Sri Lanks will invest a sum of US$ 190 million to installs gantry cairns and also add other infrastructure to the East Container Terminal, said Sagala Ratnayaka, the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Southern Development.He said Sri Lanka Port Authority (SLPA) would initially invest this amount and then get it reimbursed from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under a loan agreement.Ratnayaka said that the passenger terminal in the Colombo Harbour too would be developed. “We want this passenger terminal to be in par with the Singapore Cruse terminal to attract vessels that would pick up and drop passengers in Colombo.”He said…
First Ship Bunkers LNG in Rotterdam
The bunkering of the Ternsund was initiated today in Rotterdam, marking the first seagoing vessel to bunker liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the port. As a result the brand new product tanker of the Swedish shipping company Terntank also receives the first Rotterdam 'LNG bunkering incentive’; a premium amounting to a discount of 10 percent on the seaport dues. ECT Delta Terminal Receives Three Mega-Ship Cranes
After a voyage of more than two months, yet another three new giant super post panamax ship-to-shore cranes from Shanghai arrived at the ECT Delta Terminal at the Maasvlakte, in Rotterdam. The remotely-operated cranes have a lifting height of 50 meters under the spreader and can reach across 24 containers wide, making them capable of handling even the world’s largest containerships. Furthermore, the cranes can be remotely controlled from the office by ECT’s crane operators. With this subsequent investment, ECT is further expanding its facilities to handle Ultra Large Container Ships (ULCS's). Last year, ECT also commissioned five of such cranes. The cranes were manufactured by the Chinese company ZPMC.
ITF Repeats Call for Rotterdam Dialogue as Dockers Protest
The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) called for all-party talks on the future of the port of Rotterdam, as dockers refused to unload a ship loaded at the new Rotterdam Gateway (RWG) terminal. RWG, unlike other companies at the port, refuses to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with port workers, who are represented by the FNV Havens union. On Sunday the vessel Alsvin loaded containers at RWG, in what was believed to be a test operation. It then moved to the ECT terminal in Rotterdam to discharge them. Dockers refused to unload them.
Liebherr Container Cranes Commission Seven in Rotterdam Terminal
Ireland’s Liebherr Container Cranes say they have recently commissioned seven straddle carriers at ECT Delta Terminal in Rotterdam. The straddle carriers operate in the landside interface zone, shuttling between the automatic stacking cranes and trucks. In addition the straddles will handle multi trailers for intra terminal transfer for onward transport by train or barge. The Liebherr straddle carriers are linked to a remote positional tracking system, providing real-time accurate information on the position and handling rates of containers within the terminal.
