Østensjø Rederi Sells Multipurpose Vessel Edda Fjord

Norwegian offshore vessel operator Østensjø Rederi announced it has sold the multipurpose vessel Edda Fjord to an undisclosed buyer.The vessel was delivered to its new owners in Haugesund, Norway on January 24, 2024 and is now en route to embark on new projects in Brazil.Edda Fjord, built in 2002 by Flekkefjord Slipp og Maskinfabrikk, has operated in a number of different segments through the years and is considered the predecessor to Edda Fides and the Edda Accommodation concept…

Chevron Books Edda Fides Accommodation Vessel for Wheatstone Work

Oil and gas company Chevron has chartered Edda Accommodation's Edda Fides offshore accommodation unit for operations support in Australia, starting in the second quarter of 2022.Currently on a charter with Norway's Equinor, mono-hull vessel Edda Fides will provide accommodation and associated facilities for up to 300 people for an upcoming turnaround maintenance event on the Wheatstone offshore gas processing platform, off the coast of Australia."Edda Fides worked at Wheatstone for Chevron back in 2017…

Edda Accommodation CEO Retires

Edda Accommodation, a specialized provider of offshore accommodation service vessels, has announced that Johan Rokstad retired as CEO.The managing director role of Edda Accommodation is now transferred to Kenneth Walland, CEO of Østensjø Rederi.Rokstad started his career in Østensjø Rederi as captain of Østensjø’s supply vessels and has been with Østensjø for 40 years, of which 18 of them as CEO (from 1998-2016). In recent years, Rokstad has worked closely with the segment “accommodation” and the hotel ship Edda Fides.In 2016 Edda Accommodation was demerged to its own management company, and Rokstad has since been the CEO of the company."This is a planned departure from the company.

Palfinger to Replace Six Large Lifeboat Stations

Palfinger Marine has been chosen as the supplier for the replacement of six large lifeboat stations for the accommodation vessel Edda Fides. “We have been working closely with Edda Accoommodation on this project and found the best technical solution for their needs. Edda Accommodation’s request was to increase the lifeboat capacity as much as possible so that they are able to meet requirements from their customers worldwide,” says Robin Holmedal Pedersen, Area Sales Manager LSE. Palfinger Marine’s scope of delivery consists of six large, totally enclosed lifeboats with accompanying davits.

Summer Cruise to North Sea Oil Rigs Amazes Tourists

Bored with palm-fringed beaches and turquoise seas? Then the gigantic oil platforms of the North Sea beckon. The first ever "rig-spotting" cruise just ended off the coast of Norway, and those onboard the four-day trip said it was jawdropping. "I couldn't believe that these big buildings could be made," said passenger Kari Somme, 86, after seeing Statoil's Troll A platform - the heaviest structure ever moved by mankind - towering 200 metres (650 feet) above the surface of the sea. "It's just wonderful, just wonderful. I was so excited because I didn't know much about it. So when I came here and we went from rig to rig, or platform to platform, I was amazed," she said. The North Sea is usually known for its cold and storms.

Optimarin Scores Unique BWT Retrofit Project

Optimarin has won a contract to install its Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) on Østensjø Rederi’s Edda Fides, the world’s only purpose-built monohull accommodation vessel. The Norwegian ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist secured the business following on from the success of a previous installation on the firm’s Edda Fortis in 2015. Edda Fides, which is operated by Østensjø Rederi`s subsidiary Edda Accommodation, is a multipurpose accommodation and service ship, with a 600 bed capacity, 1,400 square meters of deck area, advanced offshore crane and helicopter deck.

Edda & its Five Star Offshore Accommodations

 Over eight months during 2012 – 2013, we operated the Edda Fides in the Bass Strait between south east Australia and Tasmania on the KTT (Kipper Tuna Turrum) project, the largest domestic  gas  development on the eastern seaboard of Australia at the time.  The charterer was McDermott Australia and the client was Esso Australia where we served as accommodation unit for up to 400 workers doing upgrade on the Marlin B platform. Specifically, how did you come to a career in the marine industry, and ascend to your current position? I first went to sea when I was 16 years old, to see the world. The first years I sailed as a deck hand, then as an ordinary seaman and then became an Able Seaman which was as far as you could go without any formal education. During this time I worked on general cargo ships, oil tankers, and OBO carriers.

New Accommodation Vessel Ordered by Edda

Edda Accommodation, operated by Østensjø Rederi, order a mono-hulled accommodation vessel from Hyundai Heavy Industries. This next generation Offshore Accommodation Vessel, designed by Salt Ship Design, is 155 meter long and will have a total accommodation capacity of 800 persons in one or two men cabins. The interior of the vessel is of executive standard, and will include 850 m2 office space as well as recreation areas, such as modern gym, sauna, two swimming pools, conference rooms and an auditorium. Delivery of the first vessel will be in June 2015.

Offshore Accommodation – Edda Builds, Signs Contracts

By entering into these two new contracts, Edda Accommodation has secured the utilization of Edda Fides until the end of 2013. The contracts include general construction, transport and accommodation support for the construction of new offshore oil and gas installations. Including options, the new contracts are worth 150 million US dollars. As a result of the successful experience with Edda Fides, Edda Accommodation has now started the process of building two additional monohull accommodation vessels. The designers of these two vessels will be Salt Ship Design.

Floatel Books into Gibdock

The Norwegian-owned offshore accommodation vessel, Edda Fides, one of the most  advanced and sophisticated vessels of its type in the world,  has been dry-docked at Gibdock in Gibraltar for a week-long package of work at the yard. The ‘floatel’, owned by Østensjø Rederi, arrived at Gibdock on April 2nd and was docked the following day. The main scope of work involved disconnecting and lowering the starboard aft Voith Thruster and renewing the main thruster seal. Edda Fides has a unique monohull form to enable the positioning of the accommodation forward and the Voith thrusters to the stern.

Cathelco’s largest Anode Order, Box Cooler Systems

Cathelco, provider of marine pipework anti-fouling systems, are supplying their largest ever quantity of anodes for a vessel which is being built in Spain. A total of 78 anodes are being supplied for Barreras NB1664, a new type of offshore accommodation ship which is being constructed in Vigo for Edda Accommodation, part of the Ostensjo Group. The purpose built accommodation vessel with an overall length of 426.5 ft and breadth of 88.5 ft is designed to house up to 600 offshore personnel and can be deployed in oil fields anywhere in the world.

Wärtsilä Sells first Nitrogen Oxides Reducers

The SCR product for Wärtsilä medium-speed engines is named Nitrogen Oxide Reducer (NOR). In the installation shown, the core of the installation is the reactor on the exhaust uptake. It is accompanied by separate pumping and dosing units to deliver the urea solution to the reactor, and a dedicated control cabinet.

The Wärtsilä NOR units are selective catalytic reduction (SCR) converters that will meet the stringent requirements of IMO Tier III emissions control regulations with regard to NOX reduction. Wärtsilä has received an order from Edda Accomodation, which is part of the Østensjø Group in Norway, to supply six Wärtsilä Nitrogen Oxides Reducer (NOR) units for an accommodation vessel. They will be installed on the six nine-cylinder Wärtsilä 26 generating sets, which were ordered in the end of 2006 in addition to other auxiliary equipment and automation.
