Pevassa Fishes for Efficient Propulsion

Energy efficient solution with 8L32/44CR with reduction gearbox, Alpha Kappel design propeller and Rudderbulb

Spanish tuna vessel opts for fuel-efficient propulsion package. Based in Spain, the Pevasa Group recently ordered a complete propulsion system from MAN Diesel and Turbo for a new tuna vessel. The system is unique in that it comprises a package of three high-efficiency products, including a modern, medium-speed MAN 8L32/44CR engine with common-rail (CR) technology, a Renk RSVL-950 gear unit, and an innovative MAN Alpha VBS1100 CP propeller with Kappel propeller blade designs and rudder bulb.

Wärtsilä Secures Finance for R&D Work

Wärtsilä and Nordic Investment Bank sign a EUR 50-million loan agreement to support Wärtsilä's R&D activities. The contract for this 10-year loan was signed in Helsinki, Finland on 13 February 2013. This R&D loan supports Wärtsilä’s long-term strategy of strengthening its technology leadership position in the global marine and energy markets, and with it Wärtsilä will further develop its medium-speed engine technology in terms of efficiency, reliability and environmental performance, as well as in reducing lifecycle costs. Wärtsilä’s R&D activities continue to be given a high profile. Since 2009 Wärtsilä has increased its R&D related expenditures by more than 30 per cent.

Maersk Londrina

Maersk Londrina is a 8700 TEU containership built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., LTD (DSME) for A.P. Moller - Maersk A/S. According the shipbuilder, one of the biggest challenges during construction was to increase the height of the accommodation by 9m in order to achieve the carrying capacity of 8,700 TEU from 7,450 TEU for the previous vessels. In spite of the difficulties of this kind of big modification during construction, the conversion was successfully completed and satisfactory to the shipowner.

Oil And Gas Dual Fuel Products In Production Midyear 2013. Cummins Inc. announced today its plans to produce dual fuel engines from 800 hp to 3500 hp (597-2610 kW) for high-horsepower markets. The first in the product portfolio, QSK50 Tier 2 for oil and gas well servicing applications, will begin production in midyear 2013, with other QSK Series engines to follow, including engines capable of meeting upcoming EPA Tier 4 Final emissions regulations. Wärtsilä, Versa Power to Develop Fuel Cell Technology

Wärtsilä, the leading provider of power solutions to both the marine and energy markets, and Versa Power Systems (VPS), a leading developer of environmentally friendly, high-power solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), today announced a co-operative agreement to develop and integrate Versa Power's SOFC technology into Wärtsilä products. A key target of the agreement is to develop commercial Wärtsilä fuel cell products that generate power and heat for various applications in the distributed energy and marine markets. The agreement allows Wärtsilä to integrate VPS fuel cell stack modules, especially for larger power range products. For VPS, the agreement provides a dedicated partner with the ability to commercialize fuel cell products in large markets around the globe.
