Transpetro's 10th Ship Enters Service

The new ship Anita Garibaldi departed on Wednesday, June 3 from the Petro-Eisa A shipyard in Niterói (RJ), for its maiden voyage. The tanker is the 10th ship of the Program for Modernization and Expansion of the Transpetro Fleet (Promef) to go online. After leaving the shipyard, the ship headed for the Terminal Island Water in the Bay of Guanabara, where it will make its first load operation. There are currently 14 program vessels in different phases of construction, seven of which are in the finishing stage. Four of the vessels are due for delivery later this year.

OSD Wins New Contracts in China and Japan

Offshore Ship Designers UK division OSD-IMT has been awarded a contract to supply the design for a modified version of its IMT 982 Platform Supply Vessel to be built at the new shipyard facility of Honghua Offshore Oil & Gas Equipment in Jiangsu, China. The contract is the result of increased marketing and technical collaboration between OSD group companies. It is contracted through OSD-Shanghai, with OSD-Singapore providing design engineering technical support to OSD Shanghai for design modification.

Swire PSV Genset Contract for MAN

Swire has ordered eight IMT-997 platform supply vessels (PSVs), with four to be built by Universal Shipbuilding Corporation in Japan and a further four to be built by EISA Shipyard in Brazil. Each vessel will be equipped with 4 × 6L27/38 MAN gensets, with each unit rated at 1,980 kW at 720 rpm. All generating sets will be constructed by MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Korean licensee, Doosan Engine Co. Ltd. The 97-metre, 5,000-dwt PSVs will be approved with DP2 (dynamic positioning) capability and have diesel-electric propulsion systems with azimuth propulsion units.

OSD Seals Ten New PSV Orders

Offshore Ship Designers has sealed ten new design contracts for large diesel-electric Platform Supply Vessels for two major offshore operators building at three shipyards in Brazil, Japan and Spain. Swire Pacific Offshore Operations (Pte) Limited has ordered four IMT-997 Platform Supply Vessels to be built by Universal Shipbuilding Corporation in Japan and four sister vessels to be built at the EISA shipyard in Brazil. The 97 m LOA 5,000 dwt vessels will be classed with DP2 capability and have diesel-electric propulsion systems with azimuth propulsion units.

Coastal Marine Expands in Brazil

Coastal Marine Equipment has extended its presence into the Brazilian marketplace by teaming with Macnor Marine and Macnor Services to assist in equipment sales and service. This relationship has proven successful as Coastal Marine has been awarded the deck equipment for two Oil Spill Response Vessels’ being built in Brazil at EISA Shipyard. Each vessel will receive an ABS approved anchor windlass, two capstans and two tuggers. The equipment will be engineered, manufactured and tested at Coastal Marine’s facility located on eleven acres in Gulfport, MS. They currently manufacture a complete line of marine deck equipment including anchor windlasses, capstans, towing winches, mooring winches, anchor winches, reels, spud winches, stern rollers, tow pins and rescue boat davits.

GPA Wins Astromaritima Contract for Two OSRVs

In 2010, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) signed a contract with Brazilian shipyard Estaleiro Ilha S.A. (Eisa) for one GPA 462-10 OSRV, designed specifically to Petrobras requirements (OSRV 750-10). Later on, an order for an additional OSRV followed. Both vessels are currently under construction at EISA for the Brazilian offshore operator Astromaritima Navegacao S/A. The 64-meter vessels are outfitted with a diesel-electric propulsion system comprised of Caterpillar and Berg Propulsion equipment.

Two GPA 675 PSV Newbuilds for Astromaitima

In 2011, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) signed a contract with Brazilian shipyard EISA. Estaleiro Ilha for two GPA 675 PSV designed specifically to Petrobras requirements (PSV 3000). Both vessels are currently under construction at EISA for the Brazilian offshore operator Astromaritima Navegacao S/A. The vessels are outfitted with a diesel-electric propulsion system comprised of equipment by Berg Propulsion and Caterpillar. The system consists of two azimuthing drives, each rated for 2,500kW and two bow thrusters, each rated for 750kW.

Transpetro Receives Proposals For The Construction of Eight Product Ships

This Friday, March 25, Transpetro received the technical and commercial proposals concerning the bidding for eight ships to be used in the transportation of oil by-products under the Fleet Modernization and Expansion Program (Promef). Proposals were received from Estaleiro Ilha S.A. (Eisa) and Estaleiro Mauá, both established in Rio de Janeiro. Initially, the Bid Committee will review the technical proposals, according to the requirements in the bid notice. Afterward, the technical proposals will be opened. The results will be announced on a date yet to be defined.

Transpetro: Bid for 8 Ships by Year End

Transpetro will launch, by the end of this month, a new bid in view of contracting eight ships to be used for the transportation of oil by-products, in the second phase of the Fleet Modernization and Expansion Program (Promef). Five of those product ships, with a capacity to carry 30 thousand deadweight tons, each, were to be built by the shipyard Rio Nave (RJ), which had executed a contract with the subsidiary of Petrobras. The other three were being negotiated with Estaleiro Mauá, but no agreement was reached in terms of prices and the agreement was not signed. Brazil Breakthrough for Berg

Berg Propulsion report that it made a breakthrough into the Brazilian offshore vessel construction market, just a few months after creating a regional office in Rio de Janeiro. Berg won a contract to equip a 64m oil spill response vessel ordered by Astromaritima Navegacao at the Estaleiro Ilha (EISA) shipyard in Rio de Janeiro. Delivery of the vessel, which will operate for the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras, is scheduled towards the end of 2011. Berg was tapped to supply a comprehensive propulsion package, including azimuth and tunnel thrusters, all fitted with Berg’s condition monitoring system. Petrobras has recently announced plans to build over 140 offshore support vessels in order to expand and renew its fleet.

Brazil Shipbuilding: A Forecast

The rise and fall of the Brazilian shipbuilding market is well-known, having plummeted from the top of the world list in the early 1980s to the bottom by 1999. Today, Brazil is storming back, an amazing revival of the nearly defunct shipbuilding industry driven by the sudden influx of orders from major offshore oil & gas players, namely Petrobras. Today the shipbuilding market in Brazil has in excess of 100 firm orders for ships in a variety of shapes and sizes, in addition to a large number of drill rigs and production unit orders. Cathelco Joint Venture, Brazil

The resurgence of shipbuilding in Brazil has led Cathelco to set up a joint venture with Workship do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro based marine equipment suppliers, which will now be known as Cathelco Brasil. Cathelco, based in the UK, is a manufacturer of marine pipework anti-fouling systems and impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems for ships, FPSOs and semi-submersibles. PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd., Canada's No. 2 oil company, could soon be on track to develop an East Coast offshore gas project to rival the huge Sable Island project, its chief executive said. PanCanadian, the oil and gas arm of conglomerate Canadian Pacific Ltd., plans to drill two appraisal wells this year near its recent Deep Panuke gas discoveries, made at the site of the exhausted Copan oil project off Nova Scotia. The wells will give the company the geological data it needs to decide whether to pursue more drilling or full development, PanCanadian CEO David Tuer said. Two recent wells drilled into the gas formation beneath the old oil reservoir tested at more than 50 million cubic feet a day each.

Venezuela and Brazil to Build Panamax Ships

Venezuela's State oil company, PDVSA, said it has signed a deal with Brazilian industrial conglomerates Eisa and Maua Jurong to build ten oil tankers in Venezuela. The joint venture will produce at least eight Panamax tankers, the largest type of vessel capable of navigating the present locks of the Panama Canal. PDVSA plans to increase its total fleet to 42 ships by 2012, the company statement said. President Hugo Chavez has been working to forge stronger ties with Brazilian companies while reducing Venezuela's dependence on the United States as its top buyer by trying to find new markets in Latin America and Asia. According to reports, Venezuela's state oil company has signed a deal with Brazilian companies, Eisa and Maua Jurong to build ten oil tankers in Venezuela. The joint venture will produce at least eight Panamax tankers, the largest type of vessel capable of navigating the locks of the Panama canal, Petroleos de Venezuela SA, or PDVSA, said in a statement. PDVSA plans to increase its total fleet to 42 ships by 2012, the statement said. Last month, PDVSA announced it had signed a deal with the Brazilian company Andrade Gutierrez to build a dry dock in eastern Venezuela for the construction of oil tankers. Source: AP

Sperry Marine to Supply For Vessels in Brazil

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit has recently won orders to supply navigation electronics for four new marine vessels in Brazil. 2,500 gross ton vessels being built at the Fels Setal shipyard in Rio de Janeiro for Delba Maritima Navegacao. The company will provide interswitched BridgeMaster E 250 and 340 radars, a gyrocompass, autopilot, speed log, echosounder, anemometer and differential global positioning system (DGPS). The three new anchor-handling tugs are scheduled for completion in 2003 and 2004. Sperry Marine will also supply an integrated bridge system for a new tugboat being built at Eisa shipyard in Rio de Janeiro for Norsul.
