Berg Partners with Yaskawa in Electric Propulsion Drive

Berg Propulsion has signed a key supplier and cooperation agreement to provide systems integration capability for Yaskawa Environmental Energy / The Switch permanent magnet (PM) and power electronics products. The cooperation creates a new and combined force offering the robustness and efficiency of propulsion systems where electric motors directly drive the propeller shaft, consolidating Berg’s growing presence in electric propulsion.“This is the latest step in Berg’s strategy to become a fully-fledged electrical propulsion systems integrator,” said Stefan Sedersten, CEO, Berg Propulsion.

MAN Introduces the 'Game Changer'

What would Rudolf Diesel say if he could see and compare his engine versus todays’ newest diesel engine development from MAN Diesel & Turbo? As the Augsburg based engine maker claims, “A cylinder output of 1,300 kW this engine puts us to the top.” The largest version of the new engines is a 20-cylinder unit (20V45/60) comes with a limit-pushing power output of 26 MW. The new MAN 45/60CR range is a striking combination of top performance, operational flexibility and reliability.

Alewijnse to Design & Install Electric Propulsion Drive on OSVs

Alewijnse Marine Systems is to design and install a new electric propulsion drive using a DC bus system for the main electric installation in three vessels (pictured below) to be built at Shipkits B.V. While the design of the drive is highly innovative, the application of proven technology and components enables the accurate prediction of reliability and performance for these vessels. Designed by Vuyk Engineering Groningen, the three vessels will be 351 ft in length, have a beam of 52.5 ft, and are designed for an offshore service role including the installation and support of wind farms.

Hellenic Navy Orders Siemens Technology

Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group is now to equip a fourth Class 214 submarine with modern propulsion, control and monitoring technology for Greece. The project includes delivery of the Permasyn electric motor, the PEM fuel cell modules, and the "Nautos" automation system. The order volume is about EUR 21 million. Handover of the submarine to the Hellenic Navy is scheduled for 2009. In 2001, Siemens had already received an order to equip three vessels of the same type. Like the previous three vessels, the new submarine will have a Siemens Permasyn type electric propulsion drive.
