Kongsberg Maritime, BMA Technology to Provide Low-voltage Electrical Products to Turkish Shipyards

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime and Turkey's BMA Technology have partnered up to support the supply of low-voltage electrical products and engineering services to Turkish shipyards.BMA Technology, based in the Gebze Organized Industrial Zone, east of Istanbul, is a technology company providing electrical system solutions for the marine industry.As part of the alliance agreement, BMA Technology will manufacture, assemble, and test Kongsberg Maritime low-voltage electrical products in its facility in Türkiye.

W&O Inks Distribution Deal with Tranberg

W&O, a global supplier to the marine and upstream oil and gas markets for pipe, valves and fittings, valve automation, and engineered solutions, announced a new OEM partner, Tranberg. A member of R. STAHL Technology Group, Tranberg offers offshore, marine and helideck lighting control solutions. W&O will assume exclusive distribution responsibilities in North America for Tranberg’s nonhazardous lighting to include helideck and navigation. In addition, W&O will also offer Tranberg’s Circle and H systems and other marine lighting systems to the maritime industry. “W&O has been looking to offer marine lighting for some time,” said Michael Hume, President & CEO of W&O.

GE CEO Immelt: Expects to Close Alstom Deal

General Electric Co Chief Executive Jeff Immelt said on Wednesday that GE is still going to "work constructively" with the French government on its bid for the power business of Alstom and that he expects the deal to close. GE has encountered resistance to its $16.9 billion proposal from the government, which has sought to encourage Germany's Siemens as a potential rival bidder. "It's a deal that's executable. It's a deal we're experienced in. It's a deal we expect to close," Immelt said at the Electrical Products Group conference.

Stephen Trotter, Managing Director for ABB’s UK Power Systems business, takes a seat on new UK Government advisory board. He is to represent the electrical, cables and transmission and distribution fields on a new board set up by the Government to shape the future of project delivery in the offshore wind sector. As one of 11 industry members, Stephen will sit on the Offshore Wind Programme Board alongside other senior representatives from Government, the Crown Estate and Statutory Nature Conservation advisors.

OTAL Adds Hamburg to West Africa Schedule

On 26 November 2009, the container ship CMA CGM Iguacu called at the Port of Hamburg as part of the expanded sailing schedule for the Nigeria Express liner service operated by the OT Africa Line (OTAL). Hamburg is included for the first time in this liner service, which links the ports of Dakar, Lagos-Apapa, Lagos-Tincan and Abidjan with the European continent. The CMA CGM Iguacu is scheduled to arrive in Lagos on 18 December 2009. The inclusion of the northern European continent only occurred in July this year. The CMA CGM Iguacu was built by the HDW shipyard in Kiel in 2006.

Grande Ghana Maiden Voyage, Port of Hamburg

Cooper Industries Buys S. Korean Supplier

Cooper Industries, Ltd., Houston, TX, has acquired Hyundai Explosion-Proof Electric Company, a South Korea-based manufacturer of explosion-proof electrical equipment. HEPEC specializes in explosion-proof Glass Reinforced Plastic lighting, control panels and switchgear and its products are complementary to the current Cooper Crouse-Hinds product offerings. The acquisition provides Cooper with increased access to the South Korean market, with its strong shipbuilding industry and where significant investment to upgrade domestic energy and petrochemical infrastructure is underway. The HEPEC acquisition is the eighth deal announced by Cooper in 2007. Cooper Industries is a global manufacturer with 2006 revenues of $5.2 billion, about 85% of which are from electrical products.

Corsaire 13000 Embodies Integrated, Advanced Propulsion System

The new 440-ft. (134-m) monohull high-speed ferry Corsaire 13000 will soon undergo speed trials at the French shipyard Alstom Leroux Naval, and the successful testing and subsequent operation of the advanced vessel will prove the value of the complete propulsion system supplied by MTU. The ship is planned to operate for the French SNCM (Societe Nationale Maritime Corse-Mediterranee) on the 189-n m. crossing from Marseille and the island Corsica at 42 knots.
