EST-Floattech Receives €4 Million Investment

Developer of maritime battery systems EST-Floattech has received an investment of 4 million euros from Energy Transition Fund Rotterdam and existing shareholders Rotterdam Port Fund, PDENH, Ponooc, and Yard Energy.Energy Transition Fund Rotterdam is investing 3 million euros, the fund's first investment in maritime battery systems. The existing shareholders are jointly investing 1 million euros.The announcement was made by Chantal Zeegers, the Alderman for Climate, Building, and Housing in Rotterdam.

WTO Expects Global Trade Slowdown to Be Short-lived

WTO Sees Trade Rebound, But Likely Year-end Slowdown

The World Trade Organization said on Friday global trade in goods had rebounded in the third quarter from COVID-19 lockdowns, but predicted a slowdown at the end of 2020.The WTO said its goods trade barometer had risen to 100.7 points from a record low of 84.5 points in August, driven by a surge in export orders. WTO's Goods Trade Index at Record Low Amid COVID-19 Disruptions

The World Trade Organization (WTO) said on Wednesday its goods trade indicator fell to the lowest level since its launch, indicating global trade was likely to fall “precipitously” in the first half of 2020 due to disruptions caused by COVID-19.The indicator, launched in July 2016, fell to 87.6 from 95.5 in February, the Geneva-based body said. New MTU Hybrid Propulsion Systems Introduced

Global Logistics to Reach $12 Trillion by 2025

The global logistics industry is expected to reach $12 trillion in value by 2025, recording a 6 percent CAGR over the period, says a research report. According to Wiseguyreports, 2015 was a difficult year for global logistics companies. However, accelerating Asia Pacific economies and recovering manufacturing in Western Europe are expected to have a positive effect on global logistics, which started to recover in 2016 and is expected to continue solid growth in the next 10 years. The key opportunities lie in construction industry and transportation of cement, metals, textiles and electronic components. Load Cell Measures Dredging Line Tension

A 2.5-ton capacity SP Radiolink plus load cell measures tension on a line stretching across a lagoon, upon which a dredge travels at a biosolids management facility, part of the City of Eugene Waste Water Dept., in Oregon, U.S. The RLP was added to inventory at the start of the latest six-month biosolids management season in March, where it replaced a dynamometer that was not suited to working in the elements. The load cell is connected to a land-based lateral move system that allows the dredge to move from side to side as well as forwards and backwards to harvest biosolids in the lagoon.

Carla Jenkins of Vidalia, Louisiana, proudly carries on a family tradition of business on the waterways. Owner and operator of Vidalia Dock and Storage, a company started by her father in 1956, Jenkins relies on engine distributor Laborde Products to keep her fleet running reliably. Jenkins first became a Laborde customer last year, when she repowered her main work vessel, Vidalia Dock, with twin 1,260 hp Mitsubishi diesels. Vidalia Dock is a 93', 321 GT workhorse, hauling barges full of coal and crushed limestone on the Ouachita, Atchafalaya and Red Rivers up to 300 miles from home base.

Australia Collins Class Submarines to be Updated

Defence Minister Senator David Johnston announced the Defence Materiel Organisation has signed a multi-million dollar contract with ASC Pty Ltd to update the control management and monitoring system for the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines. Senator Johnston said the Integrated Ship Control Management and Monitoring System is a highly automated computerised system, which enables the crew of a Collins submarine to control, monitor and manage the large number of diverse and complex systems on board the submarines.

Bouchard Funds Simulation Center at SUNY Maritime

Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc., headquartered in Melville, N.Y., said that the company will dpnate $750,000 to the State university of New York (SUNY) Maritime College’s Throgs Neck Campus to establish the Bouchard Transportation Company, Inc., Tug and Barge Simulation Center. The center will offer full mission bridge simulators, instruction stations and a debriefing area where instructors can meet with students to discuss navigation, seamanship and bridge resource management skills required in the operation of tug and barges.

USS Porter Repair/Modernization Contract Awarded

Naval Sea Systems Command awarded a $49,435,634 firm-fixed price contract contract for the maintenance, modernization and repair of USS Porter to BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair. The fiscal year 2013 chief of naval operations (CNO) extended dry-docking selected restricted availability (EDSRA) was competed on a coast-wide basis to maximize competitive pricing and best-value to the government. The scope of work includes damage repairs resulting from the Aug. 12, 2012, collision in the Straits of Hormuz as well as previously planned maintenance and modernization.

Retlif To Help Test Ballast Water Technology

Retlif Testing Laboratories is part of a partnership to evaluate and test technologies designed to treat ballast water on board ships against non-native aquatic species in American coastal waters, lakes and rivers. The U.S. Coast Guard developed regulations to limit the release of live organisms and to reduce the risks associated with the spread of aquatic invasive species. Ballast water management system manufacturers (BWMS) will apply to NSF International and the U.S. Coast Guard for testing, review and evaluations.
