Mackay Marine said it has completed final electronics commissioning during sea trials aboard the future CCGS John Cabot. Constructed at Seaspan’s Vancouver shipyard, the new ship is the third Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel (OFSV) built for the Canadian Coast Guard (CCGS) under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy.Mackay said it was selected to be part of the team to support Thales Canada in its role as Tier-1 Partner to Seaspan Shipyards and as Electronic Systems Integrator for the construction of these vessels.

Mike Hoeffler has been appointed vice president of the DD(X) program at Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. Hoeffler replaces Jack Cronin, who has been named president of Raytheon Systems Limited (RSL), Raytheon's United Kingdom subsidiary. Under the three-year $1.3 billion contract, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems serves as the weapon and electronic systems integrator for DD(X) -- the transformational next-generation destroyer for the U.S. Navy that will revolutionize naval technology for the 21st century. Hoeffler joined Raytheon in 1969 as an engineer and then moved into program management where he managed a number of military, commercial, and international programs.

The U.S. Navy's revolutionary DD(X) destroyer program passed two critical milestones in the past month with the successful completion of Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs) by the U.S. Navy on two of the ship's subsystems: the Total Ship Computing Environment (TSCE) and the MK 57 Vertical Launching System (VLS). Under a three-year $1.3 billion contract, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems serves as the weapon and electronic systems integrator for DD(X) -- the next-generation destroyer for the U.S. Navy that will revolutionize naval technology for the 21st century. Raytheon Company has been awarded a contract to provide the electronic systems and integration for the next three ships in the LPD 17 class of ships. The $218 million subcontract from Northrop Grumman Ship Systems extends Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems' (IDS) current role as the ship electronic systems integrator for the LPD 17 class, the U.S. Navy's newest fleet of expeditionary warfare ships.

Northrop Grumman Corporation, leader of the DD(X) Gold Team, and Raytheon company said today that they were delighted by the decision of the General Accounting Office (GAO), which validates that an appropriate evaluation process was used when the U.S. Navy selected the Gold Team to complete the system design for the Navy's 21st century surface combatant, DD(X). "Now that this issue is behind us, we can move ahead on this transformational ship program, which is so critical to the Navy, the DoD and the nation," said Kent Kresa, Northrop Grumman chairman and chief executive officer. "We were confident in the Navy's selection process, and are grateful that the GAO so expeditiously acted in validating that the Gold Team's proposal provided the best value for the customer.

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Electronic Systems sector has appointed Martin P. Simoni site director of its electronics integration facility located on Baltimore, Md. The Ocean Springs organization, part of the Advanced Naval Platforms group within Electronic Systems, designs, integrates and tests ship electronic systems and primarily serves the Gulf Coast shipbuilding industry as a ship electronic systems integrator. The Ocean Springs facility currently has 50 employees, including systems and software engineering personnel, and maintains a limited manufacturing capability for shipboard spares and repairs.
