Bardex Corporation, with headquarters in Goleta, California, has signed a major contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries of Korea to design, manufacture and supply a mooring system for use on Total's USAN FPSO destined for operation offshore Nigeria. The USAN field is located 62 miles south east of Bonny Island and the FPSO, which will be moored in 2,460 ft water depth, will be operated by Elf Petroleum Nigeria. The specially designed mooring system includes sixteen BarLatch fairlead stoppers sized to hold the 1,770 tonnes break strength of the system's 147 mm R3 studless chain, four moveable linear chain jacks rated for a stall pull of 382 tonnes, two 255 tonnes pull-in messenger winches and two hydraulic power units each of which can provide up to 480 kW.

Total reportedly launched its second Nigerian deep water drilling project, scheduled to come on stream in 2012 and expected eventually to yield 180,000 barrels a day, according to an AFP report. The new Usan project follows Total's first Nigerian deep water investment, the Akpo field. Deep water fields are further out to sea than offshore fields in shallower waters nearer the coastline. The value of the float-over contract is in excess of $15m. The transportation and installation assistance work will be executed by Dockwise s open stern vessel Transshelf. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) signed a contract with Elf Petroleum Nigeria Ltd. (EPNL), a Nigerian subsidiary of French oil company Total S.A., to build an oil and gas production platform worth US $520 m. The platform will be completed by 2010 and will be able to produce 105,000 barrels of oil and 3 million cubic meters of natural gas a day. It will be located in the Ofon field, which is in water 40 meters deep, 40 km southeast of Nigeria. The platform will be operated by a joint venture between EPNL and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. HHI will carry out all phases of the project on a turnkey basis, from the engineering, procurement, and installation to the test runs and commissioning work.

Willbros Group, Inc. announced that business units in Canada, the United States, the Middle East and West Africa have been awarded multiple projects valued in excess of $175 million. Willbros MSI Canada Inc. (Willbros Canada) has been awarded a contract for the fabrication of process modules by Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). The modules will be fabricated in Edmonton, Alberta at Willbros Canada's new 90,000 square foot fabrication facility which was readied for service over the past year. Coflexip Stena Offshore International has been awarded through Single Buoy Moorings (SBM) a significant part of the mooring and installation package for Shell Nigeria Exploration & Production Company's (SNEPCO) Bonga field development. This field is located in OML* 118 some 120 km offshore Nigeria's Niger Delta South West coastline in 3,600 ft. (1,100 m) of water. The field is operated by SNEPCO (55%) on behalf of Nigerian National Petroleum Company in partnership with Esso Exploration and Production Company Nigeria Ltd (20%), Nigeria Agip Exploration Ltd (12.2%) and Elf Petroleum Nigeria Ltd (12.5%).
