Ellicott Tallies Three Custom Dredger Contracts

Ellicott Dredges, LLC announced contracts for three new custom-designed dredges, all scheduled to be delivered before the end of 2017. In the first instance a major international chemical company selected Ellicott to build a custom electric bucketwheel dredge to mine salt in a very hard digging application. The new dredge, which will increase the mine’s output per operating hour and reduce its cost per ton of salt produced, will become the mine’s primary dredge. The salt will be used as feedstock for various chemical products such as chlorine based PVC.

Ellicott Takes On Rohr-Idreco Line in Latin America

Ellicott Dredges LLC & Rohr-Idreco Dredge Systems, which are owned by Ellicott Dredge Enterprises, LLC, has  announced that Ellicott's Latin American Sales Manager, Andres Borasino, will be adding the Rohr-Idreco deep digging dredge product lines to his area of responsibilities. The three product lines complement each other by offering customers multiple dredging options based on the their material and digging depth requirements. Andres has been with Ellicott for over four years successfully expanding the brand throughout Latin America.

New Cutter Suction Dredge: Modern and Efficient

Ellicott Dredges, LLC has debuted a new design 20” (500 mm) cutter suction dredge, the Series 2070 Dragon dredge. Aiming to take advantage of modern, up-to-date technology and advanced design techniques, the new dredger unit will eventually replace the Series 1870 Dragon as Ellicott’s standard and in-stock 20” dredge. “This is a truly modern and efficient design without any sacrifice of the versatility, long life and high production rates that owners of the 1870 have come to expect,” said Paul Quinn, Vice President of Sales for Ellicott.

Double Milestone for Ellicott Dredges

The employees of Ellicott Dredges LLC in Baltimore had two reasons for celebration this week, the company announced. First, Ellicott's Baltimore plant recorded a safety milestone of 1,000 consecutive working days without a lost time accident. In addition to this achievement, Ellicott is celebrating its 130th year of business. Founded in 1885, Ellicott first gained global recognition in the dredge business by building all the dredges used in the original construction of the Panama Canal.

OPIC Awards Ellicott for Dredge Work in Iraq

In a ceremony at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation’s (OPIC) President and Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth L. Littlefield presented Ellicott Dredge Enterprises, LLC and its Ellicott Dredges LLC entity with OPIC’s inaugural “Impact Award” for Ellicott’s work in Iraq. Ellicott Dredges Adds Parts Distributor in Mexico

Ellicott Dredges, LLC appointed MAKISUR S.A. de C.V. as its distributor for dredge parts in Mexico. Makisur will distribute parts and provide technical and onsite support for all of Mexico’s existing and new Ellicott dredge owners. Makisur will maintain a stock of critical spare parts for the 370 Dragon and 670 Dragon model dredges and does have capacity for growth as demand increases. Ellicott has 15 years of collaboration with Makisur having placed dozens of Ellicott Dredges into the Mexican market and now has the ability to locally supply stock parts in Mexico. Ellicott Dredges Federal Expansion Grant

The U.S. Department of Transportation (Maritime Administration) has announced that Ellicott Dredges, LLC of Baltimore, Md. has won a grant for $1.75m to help finance capacity expansion for manufacturing dredgers. Ellicott's project, entitled "Efficient Dredge Building," will create and retain over 20 jobs and will increase Ellicott's crane capacity and modernize its machining capabilities. It will also help pay for modern welding equipment and state-of-the-art IT systems for manufacturing and engineering.

70 Shipyards Awarded ARRA Grants

The Department of Transportation has announced 70 grants totaling $98m in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds that will be used to improve small shipyards throughout the United States. The funds, awarded through the Maritime Administration’s Assistance to Small Shipyards program, will help create and preserve jobs, provide valuable employment training and make much needed improvements to shipyards across the country. The Small Shipyards Grant program provides up to 75 percent in ARRA funds for a project and requires the remainder be matched by the shipyard. A detailed list of the grantees is as follows. •    Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc.,  Philadelphia, PA: $2,312,614, for the first year of training program.

Ellicott Dredges Receives Four Awards

Ellicott Dredges, LLC-a unit of Ellicott Dredge Enterprises, LLC-and its management have recently received multiple awards from international and national organizations for its technical innovations, leadership in the dredging industry, organizational growth, and community contributions. Ernst & Young, one of the "Big Four" accounting firms, has announced that Ellicott Dredges' President Peter Bowe is the recipient of its 2009 "Entrepreneur of the Year" award for Maryland in the manufacturing category. An independent panel of seven judges selected Bowe from the nominee pool.
