MOL Tabletop Drill on Containership Safety

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that it conducted a tabletop drill based on an incident simulation involving an MOL-owned containership.MOL holds these drills periodically to confirm its emergency response system in preparation for serious marine incidents, said a press release.The drill was held on Thursday, October 10, with the goal of raising company-wide safety awareness through the simulation of a serious marine incident. MOL ‘Tabletop Drill’ for Serious Marine Incident

Lines, Ltd. today announced that the company conducted a tabletop drill based on a scenario in which an iron ore carrier, managed by its group ship management company, collided with a breakwater, leaving it stranded in the Port of Kashima. The drill was held on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, with the goal of strengthening the company emergency response structure, which is based on the MOL Group Corporate Principles — nurture and protect the natural environment by maintaining the highest standards of operational safety and navigation. The exercise was also designed to ensure that the company can respond swiftly and appropriately in case of a serious marine incident, and maintain the timely flow of accurate information.

MOL Tabletop Drill Prepares for Major Offshore Incident

Mitsui O.S.K.Lines, Ltd. today announced that, in cooperation with the Japan’s 7th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, the company conducted a tabletop drill based on a scenario in which the cruise ship Nippon Maru, operated by its group company, Mitsui O.S.K. Passenger Line, Ltd. collided with another containership while under way on the Kanmonpassage. The scenario also included injuries to some on board and flooding of the Nippon Maru’s engine room. The drill was held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, with the goal of strengthening MOL's emergency response structure, which is based on the MOL Group Corporate Principles – protecting the environment by maintaining strict, safe operation and navigation standards.

India Braces as Cyclone Hurtles Towards East Coast

V olunteers, disaster management officials and aid workers conducted mock evacuation drills in hundreds of villages along India's east coast on Friday as a powerful cyclone approached, threatening devastation to farmland and fishing hamlets. Cyclone Hudhud was about 470 km (292 miles) offshore on Friday, satellite images showed, and was expected to hit land around the key port city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning. It will also impact neighbouring Odisha state. The cyclone, forecast to bring gusts of up to 155 kph (96 mph), could disrupt the lives of millions, the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) run by the United Nations and the European Commission said. "Up to 7.2 million people can be affected by wind speeds of cyclone strength or above.

CIMC Raffles Delivers Jack-up Rig to Sinopec

A Jack-up Drilling Rig which was constructed by CIMC Raffles with Sinopec Independent design named “New Sheng Li 1#” was delivered to Sinopec Sheng Li Petroleum Engineering Co., Ltd. at CIMC Raffles on 6th June 2014. This was the 7th Jack-up drilling rigs that CIMC Raffles has delivered. It will be towed to Bohai Bay providing drilling service to Sinopec Sheng Li Oilfield soon. CCS and CIMC Raffles top  leaders attended the delivery ceremony. “New Sheng Li 1#” was the first new-build offshore drilling rig since Sinopec Oilfield Service Corporation was founded in 2012. The basic design and detail design was done by Sheng Li Drilling Technology Research Institute, the shop design and construction design was completed by CIMC Raffles. Equipment localization rate reaches above 90%.

McMurdo Completes Techno-Sciences Acquisition

Strategic acquisition validates Orolia's McMurdo Group as premier supplier of COSPAS-SARSAT search and rescue solutions, establishes U.S. McMurdo Group, a global company in end-to-end search and rescue (SAR) and maritime domain awareness (MDA) solutions, today announced the successful acquisition of Techno-Sciences, Inc. (TSi), a provider of SAR satellite ground stations, integrated emergency response center systems and coastal surveillance solutions. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TSi’s Beltsville, Maryland location becomes the U.S. Headquarters for McMurdo Group, a division of Orolia (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO), global specialist in critical Global Navigation Satellite System solutions.

MOL Containership's Hull Cracks, Founders, in Indian Ocean

The Mitsui O.S.K. Lines' 2008-built Bahama-flagged 8,000 teu containership 'MOL Comfort' foundered Monday & all 26 crew were picked up from a lifeboat by 'MV Yantian Express'. According to GAC there is a considerable amount of oil in the water with containers scattered in the area 430 m southeast of Salahah, Oman. The weather at the time of the rescue was: Wind force 7, Swell 6 m. " The MOL-operated containership MOL Comfort, while under way from Singapore to Jeddah on the Indian Ocean (12'30"N 60'E) at about noon JST (07:00 local time) on June 17, 2013 during inclement weather, suffered a crack amidships and ingressing water in the hold. This made it impossible for the vessel to continue on under its own power.

MOL Drill Tests Disaster Response

MOL Table Top Drill Tests Response to Possible Product Tanker Collision, Fire in Tokyo Bay. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Koichi Muto) announced the completion of a table top drill based on a scenario in which the MOL Group-managed petroleum product tanker Raysut collided with another merchant vessel in Tokyo Bay, resulting in explosions and a fire on board. The three-hour drill, from 1pm (local time) to 4pm on Friday, 14 October, involved the Raysut as well as the 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters and other organisations.

Tank Barge Measure To Enter Force

The first phases of a USCG final rule implementing measures for maintaining or regaining control of a tank barge that will reduce the likelihood of a tank barge's grounding and spilling its cargo are effective June 19, 2000. These measures are necessary, according to USCG because without them a tug that loses its tow lacks ready means for regaining control of it. The rule is designed to increase the safety of marine transport and protect the environment. KMSS Wins 22-Ship Deal

Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) has been contracted to provide its AutoChief Propulsion Control system for 22 ships currently in production in China and Korea. The orders, worth NOK 7.5m were all taken in November and are further evidence of the massive inroads that KMSS has made into the eastern marine markets throughout 2002. "Since we announced our new focussed direction at SMM this year, KMSS has become firmly established in both the Korean and Chinese shipbuilding markets," said Lars Gorvell-Dahl, President of KMSS. "The latest AutoChief orders mark an excellent period for KMSS and it's subsidiaries in the East," he added.
