MAN Dual-Fuel Engines to Drive Russian Gas Carriers
The largest Russian ship owner, Sovcomflot, recently selected the dual-fuel MAN 51/60DF engine for an LNG carrier program, consisting of two confirmed vessels with an option for two more vessels. The dual-fuel diesel electric propulsion system and the MAN 51/60DF engine have been selected to provide the vessels with a highly efficient and low emissions propulsion system, especially when running in gas mode. A high degree of redundancy and the MAN 51/60 DF engine’s multiple fueling options have been also taken into account. The vessels are currently under construction at STX Offshore & Shipbuilding in South Korea and will each be driven by sets of two 8L and two 9L51/60DF engines.

MAN Wins Power Contract for Spanish Ships
Spains's Empresa Naviera Elcano, S.A., aninternational shipping group, placed an order for two medium-speed MAN L27/38 engines as part of a propulsion package for a new vessel. The units will be constructed at the MAN Diesel & Turbo facility in Frederikshavn, Denmark, and will power a 7,000-dwt asphalt and oil-products tanker to be built at Sedef Shipyard in Turkey. The 6-cylinder main engines each deliver 2,040 kW at 800 rpm. STX Gets First Order for LNG Tanker
STX Shipbuilding Co., received its first order to build a liquefied natural gas tanker. The shares climbed to a record. Spain's Empresa Naviera Elcano SA agreed to buy the vessel for $225m, with an option to purchase three more LNG tankers, which may increase the value of the contract to $1 billion, the Jinhae, South Korea-based company said in a regulatory filing yesterday. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. and other South Korean yards took almost half of last year's orders in the $100 billion global ship industry, as demand for fuel and global trade encouraged shipping companies to expand their fleet.
