GSI Delivers VLOC to Berge Bulk

Singapore-based vessel owner and operator Berge Bulk has received the 300,000 DWT bulk carrier Berge Logan, which was built at China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI).The 327-meter-long  very large ore carrier (VLOC) is the largest bulk carrier in terms of deadweight to be built in Southern China.Sailing under the flag of Isle of Man, she will make her maiden voyage to Brazil, said a press release.Very similar in design to Berge K2, Berge Makalu and Berge Annapurna, she is equipped with energy-efficient initiatives – such as a super-efficient tuned main engine, an economiser for the auxiliary engines and a fuel oil shifter.While the vessel has the same characteristics in terms of energy efficient initiatives, she bears certain attributes and features that are unique to her.

MAN Showcases New High Speed Engine

In coordination with the inaugural Danish Maritime Days taking place across Denmark from October 6-10, MAN Diesel & Turbo today hosted an event at its newly updated engine test center in Frederikshavn, where it highlighted noteworthy energy-efficient initiatives, including its recently launched high speed engine. The new MAN 175D, which made its debut at SMM last month, is designed to pack state-of-the-art efficiency and simplicity into a compact offering for offshore supply vessels, tugs, workboats, ferries and even megayachts, with power between 2,000 and 3,000 hp.

Waller Marine Installs Floating Power Generation Barges, Venezuela

Waller Marine, Inc. announced the successful installation of its recently constructed floating power generation barges into a prepared basin at Tacoa, Venezuela. The two 171 MW barges, each supporting a GE 7FA dual fuel industrial gas turbine, will quickly be connected to the grid and soon supply much needed power to Caracas. The basin will be closed from the ocean this week for the installation of two large structural caissons, each having dimensions of 115 ft long by 16 ft wide by 26 ft high and 450 tons, which will be positioned at the entrance of the basin to house the power barges.
