Port of Seattle Goes Green
The Port of Seattle Commissioners took action to create its 2018 Energy and Sustainability Committee and identify top environmental priorities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and further innovative collaborations to protect the air and water quality of surrounding communities. Co-chaired by Commissioners Fred Felleman and Ryan Calkins, the Committee develops policy recommendations and provides oversight of strategic conservation decisions the Port will make in 2018 and 2019. “The Port is making good on its promises to protect the environment both locally and globally. It’s our commitment to improve both the health and wealth of our communities,” Commissioner Felleman said.
Belgium's Mega Wind Farm Starts to Take Shape
Belgium, in the Antwerp port area on the left bank of the Scheldt. In the first phase 15 wind turbines will be erected, enough to supply 35,000 Flemish households with green electricity. The ultimate ambition is to build anything from 40 to 50 turbines. Seattle First U.S. W.Coast Port to Join Green Marine
Port of Seattle has signed-on as a participant in Green Marine, the largest voluntary environmental program for the maritime industry in North America. Port of Seattle state that it is the first U.S. port outside of the Great Lakes region to join Green Marine. Green Marine is a transparent and inclusive program that addresses nine key environmental issues including air emissions, community impacts (noise, dust, light) and environmental leadership. Seattle Port Commission Approves 25-year Development Program
The program intends Port of Seattle to help create 100,000 new jobs in the region & reduce its environmental footprint. "We established bold but achievable goals for the port and regional stakeholders in our Century Agenda," said John Creighton, Seattle Port Commissioner. "It builds on the 100 plus year role the port has played in creating economic growth for the Puget Sound region and the state of Washington. To achieve its objectives, the Century Agenda identifies four strategies for the port to pursue with its business partners and stakeholders augmented by four regional initiatives that identify near-term opportunities for regional coalitions to collaborate and leverage the collective power of a shared agenda.
