Wartsila Steps Up Green Fuel Push with Methanol-powered Ship

Wärtsilä's Earnings in Line with Expectations

Finland's Wartsila, a top global marine and energy equipment maker, posted first-quarter earnings roughly in line with expectations on Thursday, citing increased uncertainty in demand and supply in its end markets.Wartsila said its comparable operating profit increased 61% to 65 million euros ($68.25 million) from 41 million in the year-ago quarter, against a mean estimate of 67.2 million euros expected by 14 analysts in a Vara Research poll commissioned by the company.($1 = 0.9524 euros)(Reuters - Reporting by Anne Kauranen; Editing by Jacqueline Wong)

Ship Engine Makers Cut Ties with Russia

Fairbanks Morse Names Clark COO

U.S.-based engines manufacturer Fairbanks Morse said Monday it has named Michael Clark its new chief operating officer. Clark will guide the company’s operations, engineering, supply chain and program management departments. Arcosa Marine Launches First Barge from Reopened LA Yard

After reopening its idle barge manufacturing operations earlier this year, Arcosa Marine’s Madisonville, LA, facility launched its first barge on July 25 to a welcoming crowd from the banks of the Tchefuncte River.The tank barge, E2MS 314, constructed for the family owned and operated E Squared Marine Service, LLC (E Squared), was christened by Kevin Morley of Frost Bank, after which Arcosa Inc. president, Thomas Faherty, addressed the crowd. “We are honored by E Squared’s continued trust in Arcosa Marine to deliver the highest quality inland barges to their fleet,” said Faherty.

DNV GL Can Issue IECRE Certificates Now

The international accredited registrar and classification society DNV GL has become the world’s first certification body approved to issue IECRE - International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) System for Certification to Standards relating to Equipment for use in Renewable Energy applications - certificates for project certification.The Norway-headquartered organization now able to conduct conformity assessments as official Renewables Energy Certification Body (RECB) relating to project certification, project design certification and site suitability evaluation."DNV GL has been unanimously accepted as the first Renewables Energy Certification Body (RECB) for project certification under the international certification scheme IECRE OD-502.

EemsWerken Concludes Radio Holland Contract

NileDutch Acquires Safmarine MPV

NileDutch, West Africa specialist container line based in the Netherlands, will take over the final portion of Safmarine MPV, which sails a mixture of containers and project cargo to and from West Africa. Safmarine MPV is owned by Denmark’s Maersk Line. The operations of Safmarine MPVs Europe to West Africa services will continue as NileDutch MPV with the first sailing commencing in April. The acquisition marks the start of NileDutch’s venture into the multipurpose vessel business, enabling it to offer services to customers of containerized, oil and gas, project and conventional cargo to carry a mix of cargo on the same vessel under a single bill of lading.

GCT Deltaport Grows Capacity with Konecranes RTGs

St. Lawrence Seaway Cargo Shipments Return

Over 15 million metric tons of cargo moved through the St. Lawrence Seaway during the month of July, down just 4 percent over last year, marking a sustained comeback after the slow start to the shipping season. "The month of July was extremely busy for our ports on the Great Lakes-Seaway System as they handled high value cargoes like steel, wind components, and machinery that arrived from 13 different countries," said Rebecca Spruill, Director of Trade Development for the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.

Wind Energy Components Bound for Duluth Port

Minnesota Power and the Duluth Port said they will reach a milestone this weekend when the 15th ship bearing wind generation equipment destined for Minnesota Power’s growing renewable energy installation in North Dakota sails into the harbor beneath the Aerial Lift Bridge. The BBC cargo ship, Peter Roenna is expected to arrive in Duluth late Sunday night carrying more than two dozen renewable wind energy components after a voyage from Brande, Denmark, where the equipment is manufactured by Siemens A.G.

Rolls-Royce signs $75M Deal

Rolls-Royce has won a third contract to supply RB211 gas turbines for the Azeri oil project being developed in the Caspian Sea. Valued at over $75 million the new contract brings the total value of Rolls-Royce energy equipment ordered for this project to more than $230 million. Rolls-Royce has now secured orders for 27 RB211 sets over the past three years from BP for installation in the Caspian Sea oil fields – one of the largest concentrations of industrial RB211s in the world. Eight industrial RB211 gas turbines are required for the newly-launched Phase III Deep Water Gunashli phase of the development, in which the Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC) is investing some $4.7 billion.
