Gulf Energy Seals $927 Million Port Deal with Thai Government

Panama Canal Sets Sight on Another Expansion

As it enters the final stretch of a massive expansion, the Panama Canal Authority is setting its sights on an even more ambitious project worth up to $17 billion that would allow it to handle the world's biggest ships. Workers are now installing giant, 22-story lock gates to accommodate larger "Post-Panamax" ships through the Canal, one of the world's busiest maritime routes. The project involves building a third set of locks on the Canal. It is being headed by Italy's Salini Impregilo  and Spain's Sacyr, and should open on April 1, 2016.

KBR, Daewoo win Eni FLNG FEED

KBR Inc. announced today that the KD Consortium, consisting of KBR and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Company, Ltd, has been awarded a front end engineering design (FEED) contract by Eni East Africa SpA for a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility for the Coral South Development Project located in Mozambique. With the award, the KD consortium will be one of three consortia competing for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contract to build the new floating LNG facility for Eni East Africa and its partners to develop the hydrocarbon discovery in the Rovuma Basin in Mozambique. Only one consortium will be chosen to take the project to the EPCIC phase. FEED activities started in May 2014.

Oman Drydock Targets LNG Repair Market

Oman Drydock Company (ODC) is to formally launch a new partnership targeting the LNG carrier repair market at next month’s Posidonia trade fair in Greece. The new package is being launched with DSEC a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Ltd (DSME), which is ODC’s official partner. ODC Chief Executive Yong Duk Park said Posidonia, which is one of the shipping industry’s biggest trade fairs, is an ideal location to raise the profile of ODC and the new partnership. ODC has a 52sqm stand in Hall 2 stand 2.217.

Oman Drydock Announces 200th Drydocking

Oman Drydock Company (ODC), based in the Middle East’s new mega city of Duqm, signaled its "passionate and driving ambition" to catapult itself further into the region’s multibillion dollar ship repair industry after completing its 200th drydocking since launching in 2011. A ceremony was held at the shipyard, which cost $1.5 billion to build, to celebrate the landmark with shipping giant Maersk whose vessel, the 4388 TEU Maersk Wisconsin, was the 200th ship to be drydocked by ODC.

Oman Drydock Announces Strongest Year of Trading

The Oman Drydock Company (ODC), one of the Middle East’s newest and biggest shipyards, is announcing its strongest year of trading. The shipyard undertook 75 drydockings and repairs in 2013 taking the total number to 190 since the yard which was opened in Duqm in Central Oman in 2011. ODC also saw staff numbers increase to more than 2,000 in 2013. The vessels ODC has worked on include Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), crude oil tankers, container ships, LNG and LPG carriers, chemical carriers, bulk carriers, as well as dredgers, RO-ROs and barges.

McDermott Enters China JV

CNN reported that one of McDermott International Inc.’s subsidiaries has entered into a joint venture with a subsidiary of the state-owned China Shipbuilding Industry Corp. The joint venture company, Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan Offshore Engineering Company Ltd., plans to establish a new location on over 111 acres in . The facility is expected to be located next to two new China Shipbuilding shipyards. China Shipbuilding has one floating dock and five drydocks in the area. McDermott Wuchuan expects to focus its business on floating, production, storage, off-loading vessel construction and integration, the company said. BP Signs Crazy Horse Hull Fabrication Contract

BP Announced it has signed a Letter of Intent with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Company, Ltd. of South Korea for detailed design, fabrication and transport of a semi-submersible unit for the Crazy Horse project in the Gulf of Mexico. The $380 million contract calls for delivery in the first quarter of 2004, in time for module integration and production startup in early 2005. equipment, a 188 person quarters, and a complete dual-hoist 2 million pound capacity 5th generation drilling system. Daewoo will build the unit at its fabrication yard in Okpo, Korea. The lower hull measures approximately 350 feet by 350 feet and the upper deck box will measure approximately 350 ft. by 450 ft. largest semisubmersible production/drilling unit in the world. Stelmar Shipping Delivers Jademar

Stelmar Shipping Ltd., announced that it has taken delivery of the Jademar, a newly built 69,697 dwt Panamax tanker from the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Ltd of South Korea. The Jademar has entered into a previously announced 24-month time charter with Adam Maritime Corporation. The Jademar is a sister ship of the Pearlmar, which was delivered in January and also entered into a previously announced twenty four month time charter with Adam Maritime Corporation. Peter R. Goodfellow, Chief Executive Officer and President commented, ``With the delivery of the Jademar, Stelmar has successfully received delivery of three tankers in a series of five newbuildings for 2002 and have deployed all the ships on time charters.

Stelmar Shipping Receives DH Tanker

Stelmar Shipping Ltd. has taken delivery of the Rubymar, a new 69,697 dwt Panamax tanker from the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Ltd. of South Korea. The Rubymar has entered into a previously announced 24-month time charter with SONAP (National Oil Company of Chile) for $17,500 per day. Rubymar is a sister ship to the Jademar and the Pearlmar, which were delivered in the first quarter and entered into previously announced 24-month time charters with Adam Maritime Corporation. On April 17, 2002 Stelmar announced that it priced its secondary offering. Including the over-allotment option exercised by its underwriters, Stelmar sold 4.9 million shares of the Company's common stock at $14.00 per share.

Stelmar Shipping Gets Contract For Panamax Tankers

Stelmar Shipping Ltd. announced it has signed a new contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Ltd. of South Korea to purchase a series of five Panamax newbuildings. These five tankers are sister ships to Stelmar's three Panamax tankers already delivered in 2002 and the three to be delivered during second quarter of 2002. Peter Goodfellow, Chief Executive Officer and President commented, "This newbuilding program for five additional Panamax tankers will make Stelmar the largest owner of modern Panamax tankers. The Company is positioned to benefit from attractive long-term fundamentals of the Panamax market, with almost 50 percent of the world Panamax fleet being over 20 years old and expected to be phased out.

Targeting Greek Shipping's $16B Budget

Around the world, people involved with shipping are booking flights to Greece and preparing to do business at the Posidonia 2002 International Shipping Exhibition, held on the Piraeus waterfront from June 4-7, 2002. Stelmar Shipping Announces Delivery of Panamax Tankers

Stelmar Shipping Ltd. today announced that it has taken delivery of two double-hull Panamax tankers, the Rosemar and the Goldmar, from the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Ltd. Both tankers have entered into previously announced multi-year time charters. The time charter contract for the Rosemar is for twenty-four months at a rate of $17,500 per day. The contract for the Goldmar is for five years at a rate of $18,500 per day. The Rosemar and Goldmar are sister ships to the Rubymar, Jademar and the Pearlmar, which were delivered in the first four months of 2002, and entered into twenty-four month time charters at an average rate of $18,000 per day. The Rosemar is the last ship to be delivered as part of the 2002 Panamax newbuilding program.

Twin Disc Expands Marine Presence In Japan

Twin Disc is forming a majority-owned joint venture with Niigata Engineering Company, Ltd., of Tokyo, Japan. Twin Disc has had a long-standing and mutually successful relationship with Niigata Engineering. The new venture, named NICO Transmissions Co., Inc., will be an engineering and marketing company supporting Twin Disc's expanding global marine product line as well as a distribution company for NICO's family of transmission products. Twin Disc also reported that it has sold its 25% ownership position in the Niigata Converter Company to Niigata Engineering and, as a result, will realize a pre-tax gain in its fiscal third quarter ending March 31, 2001. A portion of the gain, estimated to be approximately $2.7 million, will capitalize the new venture.

Stelmar Announces Delivery of Second Panamax Tanker

Stelmar Shipping Ltd. announced that it has taken delivery of a double-hull Panamax tanker, the Silvermar, from the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Company Ltd. The tanker has entered into a previously announced five year time charter at $18,500 per day. The Silvermar is sister ship to the Rubymar, Jademar, Pearlmar, and Rosemar which were delivered in the first five months of 2002, and entered into twenty-four month time charters at an average rate of $18,000 per day. The Silvermar is the second Panamax tanker purchased from the proceeds raised in Stelmar's recent secondary stock offering. Sister ship, The Goldmar, was delivered on May 29, 2002. Peter R.

Exmar Announces LNG Deals

Exmar, CMB's gas tanker division, together with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, confirms the long-term charter party with El Paso Corporation of two further liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers, thus bring the total to four vessels. They will be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Company, Ltd. Each vessel will be constructed using the membrane system and have a capacity of approximately 138,000 cu. m. Deliveries will commence in 2004.
