GE to Supply Equipment for Indian Navy’s Frigate

GE Marine will provide gas turbine auxiliary equipment for the LM2500 engines that will power the Indian Navy’s new P17A frigates. This contract is with India-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), GE reported today at the Aero India trade exhibition.Under the contract, GE will provide gas turbine auxiliary equipment for seven ships to support the 14 LM2500 engines previously supplied under a separate contract.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited, proposes to open on September 24, 2018, an initial public offering of equity shares of Face Value of Rs. 10 each (“Equity Shares”) for cash at a Price per Equity Share (including a Share Premium) (“Offer”) comprising a offer for sale 29,210,760 Equity Shares by the Promoter, The President of India, acting through the Ministry of Defense, Government of India (“The Selling Shareholder”).The offer includes a reservation of up to 572,760 equity shares for subscription by eligible employees (as defined herein) (“Employee Reservation Portion”).

Ship Building Strategy for Indian Shipyards

According to an August 9 release from India’s Press Information Bureau, the Indian Navy has recommended introduction of modern and emerging techniques in shipbuilding in the country in order to reduce the built periods. The Chief of Naval Staff has been encouraging the participation of capable private shipyards to augment shipbuilding capacity in the country. The Mazgaon Dock Limited, Mumbai, Goa Shipyard Limited Vasco-da-Gama and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited, Kolkata are being modernized to augment and improve their production capacities to keep pace with the Naval requirements. Hindustan Shipyards Limited, Visakhapatnam has also been added to Defence Shipyards also to address the concerns of the Navy.
