StormGeo Names Carsten Mortensen as Chairman

The weather forecasting services provider StormGeo AS has appointed Carsten Mortensen as new Non-executive Chairman to its Board of Directors.He brings more than 30 years of operational experience, having held leadership positions at global Nordic companies, such as A.P. MSS Will Tap Data to Save Fuel

Eniram Helps French Ferry La Méridionale to Cut Fuel

French ferry operator La Méridionale and Eniram, a Wärtsilä have taken notable steps on digitalising La Méridionale’s fleet with the help of the latest energy management technology."This partnership is in line with Wärtsilä’s Smart Marine vision, which through the extensive use of digitalisation, will enable the efficient use of resources with the least possible impact on the environment," said a press release.The ‘Piana’, a ro-pax ferry that travels between Marseille and Corsica, was equipped with Eniram Trim and Speed solutions in April 2017. The evaluation period, which ended in summer 2018, resulted in annualized fuel savings of around 2%. These savings enable payback on the investment in just two years.

Wärtsilä to Optimize Performance of Four TMS Cardiff Gas Vessels

Wärtsilä is expanding its cooperation with the Athens based ship management company TMS Cardiff Gas Ltd. Under the recently signed maintenance agreement, Wärtsilä ensures the maintenance predictability of the operation of four TFDE LNG Carriers in TMS Cardiff Gas’ fleet. Eniram’s data collection platform and advanced data analytics helps TMS Cardiff Gas to achieve optimal fleet operations, resulting in reduced fuel costs and emissions. The maintenance agreement, signed in December 2017, advances the performance monitoring of TMS Cardiff Gas’ vessels.

New Shuttle Tanker Design for Teekay

A new shuttle tanker concept developed by the world’s largest shuttle tanker services provider, Teekay, will offer a new level of innovation, says Wärtsilä, whose smart technology solutions will be featured on the new vessels. To date, Teekay has ordered four of these ‘next generation’ ships, each to be built at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) yard in South Korea. Wärtsilä Acquires Trident B.V.

Wärtsilä said it has acquired Netherland based Trident B.V., a specialist in underwater ship maintenance, inspection and repair services. The acquisition is expected to close in January 2018. The enterprise value of the transaction is €17.5 million ($20.8 million) and an additional €3.5 million ($4.2 million) earn-out, based on the business performance in the coming years. Wärtsilä Opening ‘Digital Acceleration Centers’

Wärtsilä has set out to accelerate new business ideas using a collection of “Digital Acceleration Centers” (DAC) scattered around the globe. The first DAC in Helsinki has been running in beta for several months and was officially launched today, and will be followed by the second to open in Singapore in December, as well as one in Central Europe and one in North America anticipated during 2018. Wärtsilä introduces its Eniram SkyLight 2.0

Eniram, a Wärtsilä company, has introduced a major update to its performance monitoring system targeted at commercial shipping operators. The Eniram SkyLight 2.0 adds nautical maps, weather layers, and route importation to make predictive analysis and proactive planning more available. The updated system can visualise a vessel’s route from economic, environmental, and safety perspectives. Together with the weather and route information, SkyLight 2.0 includes the possibility to switch between updated nautical maps and Google maps as a background within SkyLight’s ‘fleet’, its software interface.
