First Nuclear-Powered Carrier Completes Last Deployment

“Nearly everything that can be said about this ship must be done in superlatives or in terms of the first, the largest, the fastest, greatest striking capability and highest operational flexibility.” - Secretary of the Navy John Connally, USS Enterprise commissioning ceremony, Nov. The USS Enterprise (CVN 65) is used to being first, biggest, fastest, and best. Now she can add “last” to her impressive list of accomplishments, as she has returned to her homeport of Norfolk, Va., for the final time. She completed her 22nd and final overseas deployment on Nov. 4, 2012.

'HMS Diamond'  joins with 'USS Enterprise' to demonstrate the Type 45 destroyer's outstanding air defence capabilities. During the exercise warfare specialists in Diamond's operations room helped to choreograph sorties of F-18 Super Hornets and other aircraft, which add to the Carrier Strike Group's potency. As her sister ship Daring did just a few months ago, Diamond joined forces with the 'Big E' to show how a Type 45 destroyer can shield a task group from air attack - exactly what she was built for.

USS Alexandria Receives MUC Award

By Lt. The crew of USS Alexandria (SSN 757) received the meritorious unit commendation award, Nov. 26, for their 2006 deployment with the Enterprise Strike Group to the 5th, 6th and 7th Fleet areas of operation. Alexandria, a Los Angeles-class nuclear powered submarine, was recognized for its achievements during its deployment from May to November 2006 in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Maritime Security Operations. According to Cmdr. Mike Bernacchi, Alexandria's commanding officer, the multi-mission capabilities of the Navy's modern submarines have been clearly demonstrated by Alexandria over the past few years.

Enterprise Carrier Strike Group Performs Exercise

Enterprise Strike Group Arrives in 5th Fleet

The Enterprise Carrier Strike Group (CSG) entered the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations Aug. 1 to conduct Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in regional waters and provide air support to ground forces operating in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Enterprise CSG is part of the ongoing rotation of U.S. warships to the region.

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) and embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 departed Naval Station Norfolk for a regularly scheduled deployment July 7 in support of the global war on terrorism. This is Enterprise’s second deployment within the past 14 months. Big E returned from its most recent deployment Nov. 18. Enterprise is the flagship for Carrier Strike Group 12, which include the guided-missile destroyers USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98), USS James E.

Big E Underway to Conduct Carrier Qualifications

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) transit the Philippine Sea during a Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP) with the Military Sealift Command (MSC) combat stores ship USNS San Jose (T-AFS 7). Enterprise and embarked Carrier Air Wing One (CVW-1) are currently underway on a scheduled six-month deployment in support of the global war on terrorism. U.S. The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) left its homeport Feb. 28 for the first time since returning from its regularly scheduled six-month deployment in November. For the next few weeks, Enterprise, along with embarked Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1, will conduct carrier qualifications while underway in the Atlantic to maintain combat readiness.

Captain Streeter Joins Fincantieri Marine Systems

Captain Matt Streeter, USN (Ret.) has joined Fincantieri Marine Systems North America in support of Isotta Fraschini engines for the U.S. Navy and other customers. Captain Streeter recently retired after a 28-year career in the U.S. Navy. In addition to commanding the Cruiser USS Normandy and the Frigate USS Dewert, he served as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations with the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group and as the Material Officer for Destroyer Squadron Nine. Ashore, Captain Streeter served in key billets on the Chief of Naval Operations staff. Captain Streeter will report directly to Upi Kamal, Fincantieri Marine Systems North America Chief Operating Officer…
